Acupuncture and chinese herbs vs Clomid

In the blue corner I have acupunctre/chinese herbs and in the red corner, Clomid ... LOL.

In all seriousness, I'm giving up Clomid after this cycle and putting my faith in acupuncture/chinese herbs/naturopathy to help us conceive and bake another baby. I'm just finding the 'medical approach" isn't getting me very far and the gyno/ob I've been seeing is well, just a gyno. She diagnosed me with pcos without a blood test or ultrasound. She may be right ... but she may be wrong too. She seems to think it's "fine" I continue on 100mg of clomid because it makes me ovulate - despite AF arriving 9 days after O on the last two cycles. Apparently that's "fine" too. I'm no dr, but even my basic knowledge of conception tells me that for a fertilised embryo to implant, it probably needs more than nine days to get where it's supposed to and NOT have the uterine lining shed.

So ... I finally did what I feel I probably should have done all along and called up an alternative therapy wiz. She "treated" me when I was pg with DS1 and DS2 and she's incredible. She has a special interest in fertility/conception/pregnancy. For months my gut instinct has been to go back to her, but my head said clomid could have been a "quick fix".

First treatment is tomorrow, wish me luck (particularly when it comes to those nasty but necessary chinese herbs )

LOts and lots of good luck coming your way!

Fwiw, I did Acupuncture and TCM when ttc dd. I hadnt had AF in 10 months, and was about to start clomid and IUI when I decided to try something different in the interim. Within 2 months, AF had returned, and on my second cycle (even though it was still soooo long!) I conceived DD. I still see my "dr" to this day, and saw her the whole way throughout my pregnancy. I 100% beleive in the power of tcm and acupuncture (even if the herbs made me gag at the best of times) and truly believe DD wouldnt be here today if I had not of tried it.

So goodluck, I hope it works its magic for you

Ugh! I hate those doctors that just say everything is fine all the time, when you know in your heart that it's not. I didn't conceive on clomid and I never went back to my gyno for more treatment. I had a sneaking suspicion that 'medical' was not going to work. I have the number of a great naturopath recommended to me so If no luck this cycle i will book myself in.

Good luck and I hope it does the trick for you

TCM has a totally different philosophy to modern medicine, and acupuncture has been recommended by the WHO as a treatment to MANY conditions - yes, treatment. It has been around WAY longer than modern medicine and has loads of merit. When my son was 2.5 he no longer had a breastfeed overnight as he was close to weaning and my period came back with a vengeance - yes I got away with it for that long. It was super heavy and awful every month, so after about a year of suffering with it, I decided to try acupuncture. My very next cycle was normal. I couldn't believe it. Its definitely worth and go, and your therapist can work on other areas of the body which may be underlying issues. They treat the root cause, not just he symptoms. Love it!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm glad I finally picked up the phone and called her and I suspect I'll kick myself that I didn't go down this path in the first place.
Onwards and forward to baby #3!

Best of luck AndiE. I am trying my luck with a Naturopath (again) prior to starting IVF (no luck with Clomid or IUI). I tried Chinese Medicine & Accupunture, however my headspace was in a really bad place, so he was trying to deal with that too. I really enjoyed the accupuncture (not so much the herbs)

So glad I have returned to TCM and acupuncture - feel better for it already. Must say having my tummy "cupped" for the first time was an interesting experience (and I have a nice purple bruise to show for it) but I feel much more positive about things already. Bring on O day!!

Good luck from me. On the flip side I did 2 years of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Both before and during ivf. Unfortunately for me neither worked for a long time. It was only after finding a clotting problem and being treated with medication that I finally got a BFP. I really think it depends on your diagnosis.

Wishing you all the best for a speedy BFP xx
