acupunture will it work for me?

    hey

just wondering what you ladies think about acupuncture if your NOT doing ivf??
i know alot of you are doing it while doing the ivf but i have a while to wait till i do my ivf and was wondering do you think acupucture will be worth a shot for me?? i have PCOS and mild endo, is it worth giving it a shot or just wait till we start the ivf and give it ago then??

has anyone that has PCOS got bfp doing just accupuncture and nothing more (e.g no clomid, ivf or any other thing that would normally help concieve) just doing it the good old fashioned way along with acupuncture???

would really love to hear some of your stories

    thanks heaps

    take care

    Hi mummy2chloe,

The lady I see for accupuncture has often explained that her philosophy (being traditional chinese medicine and accupunturist) is long term health so she encourages people coming before they start an IVF cycle etc. For me it's taken a while to regulate things, so I would say the sooner the better.

I do not have PCOS so I cannot comment on that side of things but it's surprising what they can do.

I lost my first bub in August 2006 and starting ttc a few months after that. I had some chemical pg's and mc's in between. I never had any tests as to why I wasn't getting pg and staying pg.
November/December 2007, I started having acupuncture as my last resort. I was so shocked to find out that I was pg within weeks of having regular AP and I am now happy to say that I will be holding my little girl in under 3 months time.
To this day I truly believe that the AP was the key, not only did it make me feel good it gave me a child.

Best of luck, you have nothing to lose by having it done.

Hi, I'm onto my 4th round of acupuncture. My story is , just over 12 months of ttc and no joy. Started charting last cycle. Been on clomid for last 5 cycles (on last lot of clomid now), with no joy. I believe there's nothing to lose, and soooo many people advocate acupuncture, and quite frankly it's still cheaper than ivf, iui, icsi etc will be.

I'm a control freak, and so being 'proactive' even if that's just attending an acupuncturist's appointment makes me feel more in control of our infertility. Let us know how you get on.

I did AP in conjunction with my first 3 rounds of IVF. My last round was my best outcome and didnt do AP. Unfortunately I miscarried, but dont think AP would have helped. Lifestyle is definitely key leading up to IVF as you need to make sure you have optimum health leading up to it so you produce good quality eggs. From what I hear AP helps the embryo implant. My theory is if embryo is healthy it will implant, if not, it wont with the help of AP or not.
Having said that, AP is quite relaxing, and if it makes you feel better, then it is a bonus as you need your mind to be in a positive frame of mind. I personally prefer a massage over getting AP, but every1 is different. You need to try and make the decision for yourself whether it is something you feel will help you.
I hope I havent confused matters. In our quest to conceive I think we are all willing to give anything a shot.

Sounds like you need a massage

Most of the time I don't feel much at all, maybe you have a cold or something coming on if you feel sore? I remember I had a wonderful massage from BB's Yael and I felt so great, but the next day I felt so ill and went downhill, then days later got diagnosed with glandular fever. So sometimes it can be other things too. It could also be the skill of the person doing it - if you have more sessions the same try someone else maybe?

I did feel sore after my first session of accupuncture, but then he did accupressure on my neck as well.

The ill feeling could also be your body clearing the heavy negative energy from itself. I'd try it again and talk to the AP about your reaction. if it doesn't work the second time, then find someone else.

My AP said that I already had good energy (i'd had reiki done before). To be honest, I preferred Reiki to accupuncture - but then I'm very spiritually game, so it was much more enjoyable.. plus I don't like needles at all, so there was already a negative there for AP for me

    Hi Mummy2chloe

I've had weekly acupuncture (AP) for over a year now. I have a lot of stress, so it helps me immensely with that. In fact, I had a bit of a breakdown prior to starting the AP, so starting AP was part of my choice to start looking after myself. I know that if I wasn't having AP I'd be a mess right now!

Anyway I've also been having treatment for my non-existant AF. Although AP hasn't specifically bought back my AF, I really believe it's benefited me. I'm starting ovulation induction soon and will continue my weekly sessions - if it helps both my mind and my body, I can't see it as a bad thing.

I've never felt soreness from my sessions. AP is a very complex treatment, and the same point can be used for a multitude of outcomes, even the actual type of needle, way it's inserted/removed/twisted and the combination of points it is used in, has a massive difference.

Did you specifically ask for a relaxing/destressing outcome? Or were you also discussing fertility outcomes? I would urge you not to give up after just one treatment. Maybe you could discuss how you're feeling with your AP therapist, or even try another one?

    All the best!

We had been ttc for 16 cycles with absolutely no result. I had acupuncture for 2 cycles and on the second I conceived, unfortunately it was a chemical pg but I still felt better for having seen those 2 lines, even if it was only for a few days. I definitely feel the acupuncture helped.

My AP would give me a massage first before putting the needles in. Sometimes they hurt but I always felt good afterwards (although one session was a bit sore from the ones in my belly, it almost felt like I'd had a lap).

    Good luck!

thanks for the reply sallyj and sorry about your mc, i hope your doing ok??

mrs p i went through everything with my ap and she was doing some for anxiety, infertility, headaches, and overall just to help me relax

well i have been to her twice now, the second time wasnt as bad, after i was finished i didnt feel so heavy in the legs and the next morning i woke up fine, i asked her why i was feeling so terrible after the first one and she said i must of had a lot of bad energy that i had to get rid of and that would be why i felt so horrible. but i truely dont find it relaxing, well not as relaxing as everyone else tells me they are after having theres. its nice to lay there and its nice what she does with the cigar looking thing that she heats up and waves over my belly, I LOVE THAT but i dont like the feeling the needles give me when they hit there spot, the heavy feeling is horrible lol and i hate that i cant move my legs or hands without it hurting and making the heavy feeling worse. i wont give up though i am going to keep going to see her for a few more months and hope that it gets better or that i get used to it, lol i am so silly i have been telling a few of my friends about the ap and they also go see the same ap and they think she is great and they also think i am crazy lol there probably right

Hey there! There is a lot of evidence now that acupuncture helps with IVF, so I would imagine it would be the same with TTC naturally as well. I think it's very admirable that you are going through it (even though you're not finding it very pleasant) for your 'future' baby - but I guess all us girls would do anything for our babies! From what you've said about how it's feeling I reckon its probably working really well and clearing a lot of things from your body. Stick with it and we'll look forward to hearing about your BFP hopefully very soon!
