AMH Blood Test (Anti Mullerian Hormone)

Hi ladies, just wanting to know if anyone else has had this blood test done?
Was the result what you expected?

Yes! Had it done about 3 weeks ago. Was the result what I expected? NO! AMH is really low (5.9) and I am now in the middle of urgent weaning of DS so I can start IVF ASAP. FS says I have at most 12-18 months left to fall pg with another baby. I thought it would come back fine. It has been quite shocking and very upsetting.

Why do you ask hun? Are you having it done?

    Thanks for responding HB

Yes, I am having the test done latter this week.

I am sorry that the result was not what you were expecting and hope you can wean your little man soon so you can start your next cycle.
Silly question but can't you do IVF whilst you are BF?

We tried for #1 for 3.5 years with no sucess but were lucky in our second IVF cycle to have a baby boy.
My DH does NOT want to do IVF again so I thought that having this test done would give us an idea how long we 'should' TTC naturally until I really push for IVF again.

    Hi there,
Yes, I had it done a few months ago before my first round of IVF. It came back at 6.9, which is quite low and means sub-normal fertility, although not, according to my FS, so low that it's impossible to use IVF. And I guess he was right because I got pregnant on my first round of IVF. If you check another thread that Honeybee started a few weeks ago, you'll see that we had quite a discussion there about AMH. (Sorry, I don't remember the name of the thread.) Apparently the benefit of AMH is that the # doesn't fluctuate the way FSH does. Plus, you can do it any time of the month, which is convenient.

    Good luck!

Well I am not seeing the FS for another 1.5 weeks but the clinic has faxed me my results which I have NO idea what it means.
The test showed a result of 26.1 pmol/L????
Not too sure if I should google the results or just wait to see FS?!?!?1

    Hey Nicole,

Assuming that your test is using the same scale as the rest of us here in Aus (they use a different scale in some other countries, such as the US), then your result is a GREAT number -- well into the normal range, which is said to start at 15 (higher is better). It sounds like in the short term you have nothing to worry about on the approaching menopause/diminishing ovarian function question. Congrats!

    Evening Ladies,
I have my results back from the test... 7.8
As the test is relatively new my GP has given me a referal to IVF Australia for an ultra-sound.
It's a huge shock to the system. Not the news I was expecting.

Has anyone got any updates on their news/testing?

Is this test a good indicator of egg stores?

Thanks KitKat, my FS rang me a week ago and said that based on my age I have a really good egg reserve and have some time to TTC naturally.
I guess time will tell as I am still BF my DS...

CB, sorry to hear this is not the result you were expecting
Hope that you get to see a FS soon and they can shed some light on the results for you.

    anti mullerian hormone low

    hello

I have not yet started TTC - sorry if im replying on the wrong forum - this is the only one that came up with this AMH test thread

i just wanted to share my AMH results, i am 36 and saw the test on a news report and wanted to have one done.

my results are low at 4.7, my doctor said "not great"

    this really shocked me.

I also had a progesterone test showing "possible ovulation". My doctor only said "this can be treated with drugs". I dont really understand what the 'possible ovulation' means?

My doctor advised me to start taking elevit and my DP menevit - for 3 months before starting TTC, take basel temps so know when to try to concieve

She said my results show I cant wait around. I really want to make another appointment with her so I can ask all the questions I would have asked if I hadnt been crying.

I will take the folic for 3 months, the start TTC, I really hope my low AMH is not going to effect our chances.

    Thanks for listening

Hi ilovelife, sorry to hear about your AMH test result. It is quite a shock when you get a result you don't expect. I also have a very low result of 3.7 and just about to start IVF. However, this is not because of the AMH but because of male infertility. Low AMH does not mean that you can't get pregnant, as long as you are ovulating, so it might be a good idea to discuss the "possible ovulation" again to make sure you ovulate. There are a lot of women with low AMH who conceive both naturally and with IVF. However, it does mean that time is more important than when you still have normal levels of AMH, so it might be a good idea to not wait too long to TTC.

Big hug to you, I hope you can get your questions answered. And I hope you get your BFP very soon!

    thanks kristine08

you made me feel more reassured, which helped me relax. damn anxiety hit me hard.

I couldn't get in to see my regular quickly, so I spoke to a doctor at a family planning clinic, she was great, and im even more relaxed now. I wont wait around before TTC

I hope you get a laugh out of this...... 'day 21 progesterone test' - to me that was a brand name...not an instruction !

    oh dear.

so i actually had that test at a random time during my cycle - hence the 'possible ovulation'. i guess my GP didn't think i could possibly be that dim, considering i had gotten myself to the appointment on my own. hhmm not the sharpest tool in the shed that's for sure !

big hugs back to you. best of luck to you and your DP with getting started with IVF ! exciting and nerve wrecking i bet ! Hope you get your BFP very soon, exciting stuff.
