Taking time off for IUI cycle?

    Hi all,

A question about taking time off for IUI cycle....

Looks like DH & I will finally commence IUI at the end of this month.

I work part-time & have a nearly 3.5 yo. The days I work DD goes to creche and my mums. My DH works full time & every second Saturday.

My boss knows we are about to commence IUI shortly & he has indicated that I may need to take time off. I actually was going to play it by ear - see how I respond to the meds & how I feel after one cycle but now I am thinking that maybe I should take up his offer. What have you done & would you do anything differently next time around?

    Thanks

    Hi RhiChiChi,

I can only speak from my experience. I am on my 3rd cycle.

Basically, I work and live 15min from the cycle. My previous manager was aware of what was happening so I would just let him know where I was going and if I would be back. I have not told my current manager who has only been around for this cycle.

Day 1 - I go to the clinic to pick up my drugs (I am only on Femara) in my lunch break and the nurses usually just leave them at reception for me to pick up.

Day 10 - scan. I try to get the earliest appointment possible. This round I just had it booked into my calander as a "Pvt App" and didn't say anything to my manager. The scan only takes 15min so you could probs do that in your lunch break too.

Day 14 - scan. Same as day 10 scan.

Day 15 - I actually thought they would trigger me on day 14 and do the procedure on day 15 so I had organised Day 15 off as a flex day and just said I was going to a Specialist. I find I generally need the day off because of the running around with samples and stuff.

For my first cycle though I had my manager on stand-by that I may be taking time off at very short notice because I did not know what to expect either. After that I was fine. You don't necessarily need time off due to pain or anything it is just convenient. It is good you have a supportive manager so just play it by ear.

    Good luck

    Hi Nellym,

Thanks for your reply - sounds like you previous mgr is very much like mine.

Biggest issue that I see I face is that I work in Melbourne CBD and my clinic is at Monash Clayton, so a bit of travel by train as I don't drive to work. It is really is too hard to know what to do this early on I think.

    Thanks again
