Question Australia IVF vs. Sydney IVF - prices difference

We are contemplating going IVF but are wondering what is the difference in cost between Australia IVF and Sydney IVF for 1 cycle?

Does the Australia IVF price include 'all' costs? We looked at both websites and AU IVF looked about 1/2 the cost for Sydney IVF!

I think from discussions that we have had here over time that SIVF is by far the most expensive one out there.

Some of the reasons for their higher costs include that they do a lot of research into better growth mediums and other new technology and have higher success rates. And also that they really only do day 5 blastocyst transfers rather than transfers earlier. I don't know anything about AU so I can't really comment (I am using SIVF)

It is really very difficult to compare clinics just from their web sites. You could ring and have a chat to them and find out if you have any questions. They would be able to tell you if the prices were inclusive or what other prices there were.

Remember also that there is the Medicare Safety Net which means that once you reach a level of out of pocket expenses Medicare reimburse you 80% of out of pockets from there on in in any year.

Good luck making your decision. And remember - if you aren't happy with the specialist in the first instance you really haven't expended much money so it is worth going elsewhere to find someone you like.

    Hi

We are going through SIVF as well basically because my GP referred me to FS and that is where he does his ivf work. While I don't know all the details of clinics available I believe that sivf have better success rates. Also they use vitrification during the freezing process and yes they did say to me that they have 'very strict protocol'.

We had a total of 18 fertilised eggs with only 2 being poor - 11 Good and 5 fair but they only froze 7 blastocysts. I did actually have a total of 26 eggs (some immature) and i overstimmed so I was somewhat dissappointed... but when I found out what that meant i realised that I should be happy. So I do feel like some of our bubbas have been lost due to their 'protocol'.

So if you have difficulty getting to blast I'm not sure what their protocol is?? You would need to question this.

All up our stim cycle cost about $9300, approx. $1800 was covered by insurance and we got back $5000 from medicare. So the cycle actually cost us approx. $2500. We only paid for lucrin and provera separately .. everything else was included during the actual treatment. I didn't end up have transfer so got a partial refund but then had to pay for freezing.

They are easy to talk to. The best way to find out about cost is to make an appointment with the clinics and go through their pricing.

    Good luck!

I am with IVF Australia and am in the TWW. So far all I have paid for is the $3600 up front fee and $200 excess for egg collection (I have private health insurance). I know I have to pay for the one embryo we have left too ($250 for six months) but as far as I know thats it. Well thats what they have told me. All medication, scans and blood tests have been included. I suspect but kep forgetting to ask about the anasthetist's fee but I think my insurance pays for that too. All these costs are before we get our medicare rebate which will end up leaving us less than $1000 out of pocket as we have already hit the safety net threshold this year!

IVFA are now only doing 5 day transfers as well (well at least that is the case with my FS) and I think they all use the same culture medium anyway developed by SIVF.

I have found IVFA to be very professional and caring in all ways but I guess it depends on who your FS is to some degree.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your journey!

    Lily
