Confused high progesterone but negative hcg

    Hi Everyone,

I am currently on my second IUI cycle but i am doing a down reg cycle. So i had a BT cd21 which showed prog 37.9 and e2 380 hcg 0.1....... so i started syneral 2 puffs morning and 2 puffs at night. (i was excited as from the bt it looked like i had O on my own that cycle!). So today CD28 i went back for another BT with the hope my hormones were basline and i could start my puregon injections but BT results today were prog 74 and e2 high (didn't get number) but hcg still 0.1???????????????????????
So they have said that since the hcg is 0.1 i'm not pregnant but they thought it was hopeful looking at the hormones until they saw the hcg so continue with the syneral and have another BT in 1 weeks time.

I don't understand how my hormone levels are still rising despite the syneral?

This is my first down reg cycle and my first IUI cycle was cancelled half way through... i just hate not understanding... is there stil a chance i could be pregnant i just O latter that they think???

I know these questions might sound stupid but i'm kinda hoping that someone might be able to help - i always forget to ask things when i'm on the phone to the nurse!

    Thanks

    Bella

    Hi Bella

I am not an expert but I believe that if you have a trace of HCG in your system it may be take time for your hormones to level out. I know women who have had MC but some HCG remains in their body which has delayed AF from arriving.

Sometimes it takes some women a little longer for their hormones to down reg. Hopefully this additional week of syneral will do the trick for you.

You can always follow up with your nurses the next day. I know how hard it is to remember to ask all your questions when it is a stressful or unplanned situation.

Hope things go better for you this week.

    Hi Bella,

I don't know what you have been told but I would imagine that by doing BT on cd21 it is to make sure that you have O. The synarel is to not make you pg but to make sure your hormones are lowered to a point where they could then stimulate your ovaries and make your body release the hormones as dictate by the injections so by next cycle your ovaries will produce more eggs than normal (when your hormone is lowered enough, you will get AF) and then a few days later you will have the injections. In my last stim cycle, because my hormones weren't lowered enough they had to up my synarel (which my hormone dropped pretty much dramatically after a few days). This triggered AF. sometimes our hormones P4 and E levels might not respond too well to the meds. I asked my FS why I had to have double dose of synarel with the 2nd stim cycle while in my first cycle I responded quite well. She said that it could happen because our body is always different at different times. She also raised the posibility of ovarian cysts (which produce their own hormones).

I am surprised that your Fs didnot up your synarel.

With regards to the hcg level. Some women will have some level of hcg, between 0 - 5. This is normal and does not mean you are pg. anything above this is different.

    Hope this helps.
