Dye test

I dont even know the proper name for this test, but basically from what I understand they send dye through your fallopian tubes to see that they are functioning as they should be. I only have one tube remaining and I need that peace of mind to know its clear and healthy. Does anyone know how you go about getting this done? Do I need a referral from my GP?

Hun, if you search HSG test on here that should bring up quite a few threads
My FS gave me a referral to the hospital he preferred & it was a relatively easy process.
Not comfortable at all, but he also advised me with certain painkillers to take beforehand so it wasn't unbearable

You can have a HSG where your awake or a lap and dye where you are under a general anathetic. My Gyno suggested I have a lap and dye as during my lap for my ectopic they could tell my remaining tube wasn't normal so they were going to visualise the dye coming out instead of the other way they can do it using an xray or ultrasound.
The recovery from the lap and dye was so minor compared to my recovery from the ectopic lap. I was of work for 6weeks following the ectopic and was in a bad way for along time. After the lap and dye I had 5days at home but honestly didn't need it. The Gyno wanted to see what was going on inside over the HSG and I was happy with that.
That was in Nov and I have had 2 cycles since and no BFP. He did say that the dye should help clear the tube even if its opened it often helps achieve a pregnancy shortly afterwards. Both are not without risks (such as infection) so I'd way up the pro's and cons. For me I needed to know if my tube was opened as I didn't want to ttc for another 12months only to find out my remaining tube was blocked (said it was highly possible duriong my first surgery looking at it) we had already been ttc a year and they were positive my EP was caused by damaged tubes. I also m/c in May and they thought that pregnancy was in a unknown location.

I had my Levovist ultrasound done in October and while it isn't the most comfortable test in the world (my FS recommended 2 period pain tablets 45min prior to the procedure) it proved what we all thought, that one tube was completely blocked and a partial blockage in the other.

While I felt crampy pains for an hour or so afterwards (the uterus wants to get rid of the dye, but luckily it doesn't take long to be absorbed back into the body), after a hot water bottle and a lie down it was fine. No issues the next day.
