Question Exercise and TTC / TWW?

    Hi All,

We have been TTC #2 for a while and am now on Clomid. I am a bit of a gym junkie as it really helps with my stress (and we know how much we need that on this path don't we?).

My question is about how hard I should be working out while in the TWW. I do cardio, weights and boxing each once a week for an hour each time. I have just bought a heart rate monitor (my personal trainer thinks its a bit like a gameboy and is trying to get a high score!). When I am in the TWW I try to keep my heart rate down around 155bpm. If I am not in the TWW I will push my heart to around 190bpm.

Any info / advice would be appreciated!

Rachel - during natural cycles I don't take it any easier during the TWW, although I do wear a heart rate monitor as well so I know exactly what Im doing . I think you are on the right track though, the main thing is overheating your body which you will do at 190bpm!!!

Anything that relaxes you can't be bad?????

My FS told me not to run for about 3 to 4 days after embryo transfer, but apart from that no restrictions. I don't think there is any evidence not to exercise, but just to be cautionary.

Stay hydrated, and keep heart rate at an easy rate and you should be fine.

Thanks Neptune and BecD. I get pretty nauseous on the Clomid too so that has made me ease up a bit lately. I really find working out reduces my stress - especially the boxing!

Its hard not to read too much into what our bodies are doing isn't it? The clomid has had a bit of an impact on my moods too so I feel a bit all over the place.

    thanks for your advice.

    hi rachel,

I read somewhere that your heartrate should be kept at 130bpm or below when preg, so i'd say that would be the same for a tww. but if you are a fit person, reducing your heartrate like you are is probably fine.

One of the ladies asked a similar question in the tww folder. My clinic told me not to overheat or get breathless,,, otherwise go for it. Oh, and don't change to anything new or you haven't done before.

I love running but injury and the horrible side effects of the drugs in my first cycle saw me drop my bundle BIG time.... went for my first run yesterday though,, yayay. So am planning to get my fitness back and try to be a bit better next cycle in 09.

thanks for the thread - i think exercise is so important. if it's vital to a healthy lifestyle normally why on earth would it not be vital to a healthy pregnancy???

oh thanks for this thread, this is something I too have pondered...I am also a bit of an exercise junkie...weights/cardio at the gym, regular walks with my dogs, and ashtanga yoga, which is quite strong and energetic compared to other forms of yoga

I have been told not to do that yoga in the first trimester (or obviously TWWs)...and previously have cut back to just walking in the TWW and when I've been pregnant...but I have really missed gym workouts and have felt that my stress would in fact lower if I could do more of my normal exercise...sounds like light weights/moderate cardio etc would still be OK, even in an IVF TWW?
