Failed FETs - Laparascopy showed no problems

    Hi there
I am new to this forum stuff, but I am getting to a stage where I just don't know what to do.
To begin with, I went through ICSI treatment in 2007 due to Male Infertility - almost zero sperm in each sample.. a few good quality swimmers and that was it.
My partner had testicular biopsies to get more to fertalise my eggs.
In the end, I got 6 good quality embryos - one of which was transfered - we had success & a healthy baby boy in Jan 2008.
Wev have had the other 5 stored over the years, and at the end of last year we decided that this year we will go again. Me stupidly thinking it will be a quick trip to my docs, have the FET and we'll be good to go. Oh how I wish!
So far this year I have had 4 out of the 5 embryos transferred.. each time the dr has said they are great quality and my lining etc was all beautiful (if you could describe it like that!). So I have been utterly devastated each time, thinking this was it. In the second cycle - my doc put me on progesterone pessaries (not sure why though as everything 'looked' perfect). Each time since I have been on the pessaries.
Ok so after my last negative, my Doctor is very frustrated as to why there has been no luck as everything has gone to plan up until the testing day. He called me and suggested I have a laparascopy to see if I had any returned endometriosos (as I had very mild endo years ago).. This made me think very positively and kind of hope that I did as I would have some answers.
I had my laparascopy, tubal flush and D & C a week ago. From what my doc said afterwards, it all was fine in there & no endometriosis, tubes were clear and I think the D & C was just for good measure. So I'm thinking was this just a waste of time?
I have just one embryo left and I don't feel my chances are any better this next time round. Last cycle I tried acupuncture, which I thought may help.
I see my dr for my post op appt next week and see what the plan is moving forward.
Can anyone give me a glimmer of hope as to I may be completely wrong about the lap being helpul although they found nothing? Or any advice, just anything would be great
    Sorry for the essay!

hi! welcome to bb. im sorry to hear your embryos arent sticking =( i dont have any advice because ive never had a lap or endo. my dh and i did do icsi to get our daughter and wil have to for any future babies but like you it is completely because of male factor. we did use 5 embryos just to get our DD.
will be thinking about you next week and really hope your next FET is a sticky sticky thing.

    Hi kmjl,

I'm so sorry you haven't had a successful cycle this time around, particularly since the FS is happy with how everything is looking.

When I had a lap it showed nothing either but then I fell pg (naturally) after two months. I think there might have been a bit of a blockage that the dye/water they squirt through got rid of before the camera went in.

I have heard of alot of success stories of people falling pg after laps (not sure about doing FET cycles though).

Hopefully the lap will give your body a nudge.

Hi kmjl - I too have had many failed FET's. My FS recommended a pipelle biopsy last cycle and I got a BFP. I had to go into my local GP on cycle day 7 and she did it. Its a bit painfull but over quickly. I really believe it helped me. Sadly I had a missed miscarriage but at least it stuck! Its meant to help with embedding issues. I had another one with this FET and am currently in a TWW. Google it and maybe ask your doctor. Good luck with it.

Thank you all for your responses!
I feel a bit better about the whole thing..and still a little hope for my last embryo! Let's hope it's a lucky one!

TT40 - I hope that I am like you to get my BFP on #5! Are you thinking of trying again?
RhiChiChi - I really hope that my lap works some sort of miracle! How long were you trying before having your lap? The frozen embryo should be just like having a natural one in there providing it all thaws ok - which all previous 4 thawed perfectly... I was lucky enough to get photos of the last few at 4 cell stage
vic261- The dreaded 2ww!! Oh how I hated it sooooo much! Google was my best / worst friend at that time! How are you traveling? When is your blood test? I have everything crossed for you! I thought I had come across everything imaginable on google so far, but had not heard of the pipelle biopsy - sounds def worth trying that's for sure. I'm at the stage where I am up for everything and anything!

Thanks again for your replies, it means a lot - saves me from going nuts. I had been trying to have a 'surprise' for our families etc by not telling them, as I just expected that it would work first shot and be that easy! After 2 failed attempts, I ended up telling my parents. I really struggle talking about it in person as I just start crying - & I'm not an emotional type of person (well in front of others anyway). My partner's family and my siblings still don't know.
My brother and his wife just announced that they are expecting.. I am deep down happy for them, but it is so hard to bring that to the surface! I feel so guilty that I cannot be over the moon... I just keep comparing myself, if that cycle had of worked, I'd be due around the same time etc. So terrible and makes me feel like such a bad person! Is this at all normal or do I need to pull my head in!?

    Thanks ladies

We were trying for around 12 months when I had my lap, maybe a little less but I had issues with conceiving my DD too- she took 13 months of ttc (I was 30 at the time we fell pg).

You'll be surrounded by alot of people either pg, newborns etc... and it can really play havoc with your emotions. When I was ttc # 1, I went to the local shopping centre but had to leave b/c I felt like the walls were closing in everytime I saw someone with children or pg. Your EDD will be a difficult time too. Be gentle with yourself x

I had lots of embryo's as well and to get DD we had 1 fresh transfer and 3 FET's (2 embryo's transferred each FET) so all up 7 embryo's used for 1 baby and with the twins we had 2 FET's (of 2 embryo's each) 4 embryo's for 2 babies.

Has your Dr tested you for MTHFR, which if you have the gene can effect the embryo's ability to implant. If you google MTHFR you will find heaps of stuff, I know a lot of IVF'ers who have the gene but didn't know it and once tested and found out it was as simple as have daily asprin, although some have to have daily clexane injections.

MTHFR also can be a reason for multiple miscarriages.

I hope you find the answers soon and your next baby is not too far away.

    Hi kmjl and welcome

Im sorry that this is the path you have to take to TTC. Whilst it doesnt seem that way, not finding endo had got to be a good thing! A D&C was not neccesarily a waste of time, I dont think especially after IVF cycles. One of the hard things with IVF is finding just the right blastocyst that wants to 'take'. This might happen quickly or it might take years.

FWIW we had unexplained infertility, no cause, no reason, no explanation yet 11 cycles later we still hadnt achieved a BFP. I know how you feel, it is so frustrating to be continually told 'oh it all looks great' and still not get a positive result.

Hang in there. I hope your bub isn't far off

    Hi All
Thanks for your responses! I've been a bit flat out to get on here any earlier.
I had my post op appointment today - I've healed all ok, they found nothing with the lap and the biopsy they took was all ok as well.
My doc says that having the D & C will increase our chances for our very last embryo.. Fingers crossed. I plan on going next month.
vic261 - I am so sorry to hear that AF turned up, sucks. Hope this cycle all goes well and I have everything crossed for you !
Hope everyone is all well and I'll check in again soon & look up the suggested threads as well!
    Thanks xxxx
