Does anyone know if genetic testing is something that is offered routinely once you get going with IVF or is it something you have to discuss with the FS specifically? Also what costs are involved in doing such tests?
The reason for my query is that between my family & my partners family there are 3 known cases of Parkinsons disease (and a 4th suspected one). I also suspect their may be a faulty gene of some sort in my family as two aunts on my dad's side were infertile and had to adopt.... back in the days when it was easy to adopt.
I was investigated for infertility a decade ago but nothing was found. No genetic testing was undertaken. I have had two early m/c over that time and no other pregnancies. My gyno has told me that after my lap I should go for IVF immediately.
I guess I'm wondering if the subject is likely to come up or will I have to remember to discuss this when I eventually get to the FS.
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, or PGD, is not routinely offered to IVF patients, but can be undertaken with IVF if there are valid reasons to believe that genetic screening should be done to the embryos. I do believe that Parkinson's is one of the genetic problems they can screen for. You will need to discuss wishing to have PGD done with your FS prior to starting IVF, though.
