Going back on Pill to start IVF Cycle?

Hi,

DH and I have decided to start IVF next cycle (which will start tomorrow). My FS has told me that I am to start on the conception pill when I get my period tomorrow to start everything rolling. Thing is I don't really want to. I am regular as regular can be. I ovulate on the same day of my cycle every month and my cycles are exactly 28 days. I am a bit scared as I don't want to go on the pill, for it to turn around and stuff my cycles up and then I spend the next few months trying to correct them if for some reason IVF doesn't work. Does anyone know why you are put on the pill? I haven't been told much apart from that it regulates your cycle - ummm hello my cycle is regular . Also does anyone know some good sites which will give me a step by step account of everything that happens from start to finish of an IVF cycle?

the pill is used to start the down regulation process within your body. it shuts off normal hormone production, allows them to "control" when you have a period etc. essentially with IVF, they need FULL control of your body and all the hormones. you'll also find that they put you on the pill for a month so that there is no chance you're pregnant when you start the other drugs as they're not at all good for a teeny embryo

looks like we will be doing ivf around the sametime.

i started the pill 2 days ago for our ivf and its exactly what briggsy girl said about down regulating your cycle. i will be starting syneral on the 19th which also helps down regulate my cycle. are you going on syneral aswell?

we should be going in for our egg pick up around the 10th of november.

do you have dates yet as to when your egg pick up is??
