    Default IUI

    Hi all,

I am currently on my 4th round of clomid 50mg this month. If no result this month, my specialist advised that IUI might be an option. After reading about it on the net, it sounds pretty straight forward but I just wanted to get some feedback from some of you who have actually had the procedure done. Also if anybody has had success from it and/or side effects if any.

    Thanks heaps.

    Hi Lisa

Like you I was on Chlomid for approx 9 months. At my first appointment with the FS I was told that IUI was our next option, which we decided to go ahead with. After hubby was tested it was determined that because there were no probs on his end that "ovulation induction" without artificial insemination might work for us. As with IUI I started on the daily injections of puregon and after approx 10 days was given the trigger injection pregnyl which brought on the ovulation. At this point, rather than them injecting the sperm, DH and I tried to conceive naturally which I'm happy to say worked first go. After 18 months of trying - we're now 7 weeks pregnant. The injections do make you feel a little off colour but its nothing compared to the morning sickness I'm feeling now!! The pain or discomfort you feel really depends on how your body reacts to the injections. They normally start you on a fairly low dose which means that the side effects arent as bad. I also got some minor cramping but nothing to worry about.

Hope it works out for you and you get your BFP soon.

    Take care.

    hey Lisa,

I am on my first cycle with Artifical insemination, i was on the same as you clomid 50 and then had 1 injection of pregnyl before insemination, then went and got it done, took all of 5 mins to do and got up and walked out ( felt wrong thought i should be laying there for a while to make sure nothing was going to run out lol) and now i am nearing the end of my tww, it was a pretty stress free procedure

hope this has helped you in some way and all the luck in the world with your ttc journey, hopefully not long and you will be getting

    Thanks girls,

I hadn't heard about the injection part - so thanks. I've got an appointment next week to discuss my options but I think IUI will be the next thing on the agenda. Good luck Penny and hope you get a BFP this month and congrats Tina on yours.

    Thanks again.

    Hi All
I have been takig Clomid now 5 times firt 4 where 50mg my last one was 100mg. I have only been going to FS for my last 2 cycles. After 1st tracking i ovulated and was told to do the deed then come in for a post coital test, unfortunately they couldn't find any sperm so still not sure what happened ther doctor couln't explain. Last cycle went for ultrasound as doctor was going to do IUI had too many follicles so couldn't go ahead. So still in the dark and hoping that this cycle will produce just one good follicle to try IUI again. Doctor hasn't mentioned any type of injections yet. Does any one ever feel that doctors can be a little to vague?

    Hi Lisa,

I did 4 rounds of IUI last year June - September, it was a fairly simple procedure. Even though I ovulate on my own every month, I still had Gonal F injections from CD2 - CD9 when I went in for a scan to check out my follies. Even with the injections I still only had one good follie anyway. Had a trigger shot of Ovidrel on about CD12, then went in for the IUI 1 or 2 days later. You have to go there in the morning to drop off the semen sample for washing etc, then return in about 2 hours for the insemination. Its over in about 5 minutes and doesn't feel painful at all. The Ovidrel injection caused sore BB's etc as it is HcG, but thats about all. Maybe I was a bit emotional during the injecton phase (and the 2ww - that makes it the whole cycle hee hee), but that could have been from stress and anxiety hoping it would work etc. Unfortunately it didn't work for me so its onto IVF now, but it does work for alot of people! I hope you are one of those!!

    Good Luck!
