I have some questions, that are probably silly, but...
I'm having my right tube removed next Monday and was wondering how this will effect my cycle? Does it mean I'll only ovulate every 2nd month?
I'm freaking out about the GA, but trying not to worry about it. Is there anything I can do in the next week that will help me recover quickly from the op / GA?
Sorry hun, not sure bout the questions about ovulating with 1 tube, but I have had a lap done to remove endometriosis. The best thing to recover quickly is to rest - I went back to work after 4 days and it was too soon. I think the gas pains in my shoulder were the worst from the stuff they use to blow your tummy up. Heat packs helped this.
Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery xox
Nic, are they only taking the tube or are they taking the right ovary as well? I'd hazard a guess if they leave your ovary, you'd still ovulate from that side but the egg would just be reabsorbed into your body? I'm not sure....
Try not to stress about the GA. When I had mine, it was my first ever operation and I remember waking up feeling like I had the best sleep ever! Keep your fluids up and eat well (until you have to fast of course). Afterwards, get as much rest as you can. You might get some pain in your shoulder, this is just the gas trying to escape, lying down helps lessen it a bit (when you sit up the gas rises and pushes on your diaphram giving you the shoulder pain). Hold a pillow into your tummy if you need to cough, you'll feel sore and tender. Don't watch too many comedies when you're resting up (laughing hurts a bit!).
Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine and it will all go well xox
Yeah, if your ovary is still there then you'll still ovulate from that side, it just won't be able to travel down to the uterus.
Once you're able, try to get up and move around as much as possible (gently). It helps with shifting the gas.
Nic, the GA will be fine hun. It's a pretty quick op, so you won't be out too long. I did find after my lap (for other things) the shoulder tip pain was pretty ouchy. More so than the little entry holes (which you can't see anymore at all!) Rest is good, and like erybery said, take as long as you need. Some folk are back up in a day or two - but others take a bit longer (like me ). Once you get moving and the gas gets absorbed (yes - it becomes gas!) the discomfort subsides.
Elocin even if they took your ovary (which they wont) you will still ovulate every month as one ovary will start producing the goods for every month. But this isn't going to happen.
Also with only one tube but 2 ovaries it is possible for the egg from the right side to travel down your left tube especially when there isn't a right tube to beat it to it. Tubes don't stay in one place and the fimbria those hair like fingers on the ovary side of the tube can sweep the egg towards it even when its on the opposite side. If your remaining tube is in good nick then having only one tube doesn't reduce your chances of conceiving by 50% or anything like that. For me my remaining tube was damaged although I was still very fortunate to fall pregnant on our own but we do know the egg came from the ovary with the tube.
I have had a laparoscopy for dye studies and debriding adhesions and I was back at work after 5days and feeling great. When my tube was removed with the ectopic pregnancy however I did take 6weeks of and the recovery time was much more difficult. Not sure if having a tube removed without an ectopic pregnancy in it would be any different to what I had done. I guess it would be the same however I didn't enter the surgery in a good frame of mine and was compromised going into the surgery so that definately impacted on my recovery.
Will be thinking of you and wishing you speedy recovery vibes and your own miracle BFP shortly afterwards.
Just wanted to wish you the best of luck. I know I was really scared before my lap. If you've had a GA before and have had any problems pulling up from it let the doctors know so they can make some adjustments to the anaesthetic. If you are one of the unlucky ones and feel sick when you wake up let them know immediately as there are several pain relief options and ways they can reduce nausea. Once I got home I no longer needed pain relief but they gave me some just in case.
I didn't have shoulder pain, so not everyone gets that. I did have a sore back, I think it was because my stomach muscles couldn't support my back. Use heat packs if you feel sore. I found sleeping a bit uncomfy because of the stitches and sore back. I felt soooo much better when they took the stitches out.
I think I had about 5 days off work, but each day I was moving around more and more.
Good Luck Monday! You will be fine! The drugs are awesome. I had my first lap in Sept this year, and was my first ever surgery. i will tell you, I pee'd 50 times in the hour b4 I was called in, i was shaking and so scared, but the nurses were AWESOME, I remember laying on the bed, looking up at the ceiling .... and OUT to it Woke up in recovery to arguing nurses
The pain from the gas was the worst, apparently there is something you can buy from the pharmacy called gas eze or something like that, I only found out aboutit after my lap! So i didnt try it. I just had pain killers
A couple of things I'll say about the lap and recovery.
1. Take the drugs. Seriously. I totally underestimated how sore I'd be and am glad that they gave me good pain relief. Also - let your anaesthetist know how anxious you are about the GA. Mine gave me a relaxant (the name totally absents me at the moment, I'll think hard - it was a benzo though) and it totally relaxed me - to the point that I was saying "woooo hoooooo, I feel lovely" to my surgeon and had the theatre team in fits of laughter before they knocked me out.
2. Rest rest rest - but like Marcellus said, try and get up and about doing gentle stuff. It helps with the recovery.
You'll be fine!!
