    Laparoscopy - endometriosis removal.

Hello, not been on for a while. Just to summarize I have been ttc for 4 years, tried clomid, had my tubes flushed with the dye etc. At first I was told I had poly cystic ovaries then confirmed it wasn't. I had low progesterone which seems to have righted itself and my Gyno told me there was no point doing a lap as they wouldn't find anything. Anyway I tried Chinese medicine which seemed to ease my symptoms a little. Finally I went through the public health system after just really needing answers! I just had my lap done yesterday where they found a lot of endometriosis and managed to remove it all. I am in a bit of discomfort but not too bad. I wondered how long recovery normally takes and I suppose the chances of pregnancy? Anyone else experienced a similar situation??

Recovery from a laparoscopy shouldn't be too bad, although everyone is different and the shoulder tip pain can be an unexpected annoyance. It's more the gas than the actual wounds that cause the trouble.
You should have been told by your dr how much you chances of conception have increased by. It depends on each individual situation - but if the one and only thing causing your lack of fertiltiy is endo, then you chances will be as good as the general population. If you have other contributing factors then it's hard to tell. I think endo takes at least 6 months to start growing back, so these next six months should be your best chance.

All the best. I hope the laparoscopy is the end of TTC for you and the beginning of your journey to parenthood.

Thank you yeah they are pretty sure that was the main cause and did say my fertility should improve and chances are will most likely double. My wounds seem ok apart from my belly button which is a little sore. You are right though it is the gas that is worst and seems to be sitting under my rib cage!! During my procedure I had to be given a lot of morphine and then my levels dropped and I stopped breathing properly but apart from that it went well. They found the endo behind my ovaries, on my uterus and rectum :/ sorry for the overshare lol. Feeling really positive that I will fall pregnant once my body has recovered

Hi Bella. Good to hear they found some answers for you. I had my second lap for endo at the beginning of this month. If you're not already doing it, take some gas pills (I took De-Gas this time, which was the same thing I was given in hospital) and use heat pads. To be honest, I think the heat pads help more than the pills, but at least I felt like I was trying everything by doing both. The shoulder pain eased after 2-3 days.

In terms of recovery from the surgery itself, it depends on how much work you had done. The first time I had a lot of endo removed (one ovary was encased and half my bowel was covered, along with other, smaller, areas) and needed 8 days before the pain subsided (and I had no shoulder pain that time). This time I had much less endo (re-growth) and felt back to normal as soon as the shoulder pain had eased (ie 2-3 days recovery). It was a pleasant surprise that it was so much easier this time. If you had a lot removed, I'd be assuming 7-10 days before you return to full mobility.

I had my first lap after 3.5 years TTC (6x IUI, 4x IVF and 1x FET - all BFN) and was pg with DD (via IVF) two months after the lap. It made a huge difference for me last time; it's too early to know if it will help as much this time.

It's probably too late to be of a lot of use, but I have a page of recovery tips on my blog if you're interested in having a read.

GL with your recovery. I hope you feel better soon and that you have your BFP before the year is finished.
