have a great time in Melbourne. I am sure you know that yourself but just in case a quick tip as I did the same with my 1st cycle. I stupidly kept the syringes with the meds in my eski for the hand luggage - got obviously stopped and had to transfer them into my backpack and check them in....

Thanks sara, I didn't know that but I have to do the needle at the airport just before we board. They are the pen needles so hoipefully wont cause any problems. Will put all bar one in my suit case. So glad to see you made it to the TWW have my fingers and toes crossed for you, come on sticky baby.

Hi Everyone....I'm waiting to get back in here.....AF was supposed to arrive (according to normal cycle) however this probably won't be the case since stopping drugs last cycle......the waiting game. I'm waiting to start our first IVF cyle and of course can't do this until she arrives!!!! Driving me nuts. DH suggested to POAS.....i've done 3.....NONE have them have worked!!!! Blaaaaahhhh!!!!! Anyhoo I have been lurking for the past month and am hoping to join you on the NEW part of my journey soon!!
Looks like Im out with AF just on the doorstep - im 99% sure.
It has been a very up and down few days over Easter with one minute feeling like AF had arrived then not and wondering whether it was implantation pains etc after hearing lots of different experiences from people.
But with tummy pains, sore back and hips, sore BB's and headaches - its a pretty big indication for me that im NOT pg.
Sounds like Im in the exact same boat as many of you with DH having low count/mobility. Sounds like ICSI might be the go. Just got to save up the money which is hard when you have just bought your house.
Infinity - sorry AF is stuffing you round a fair bit and Baby2Bee - its annoying when you know its supposed to be coming but it doesnt I will be expecting that this cycle being a natural cycle after being on the hormone injections.

Melissal - good luck to you guys, we might be trying ICSI together - I hope we get there soon.

Loops - I'm so sorry you think AF has arrived:hug:. Have you done a test or will you wait for AF/BT? IVF is expensive and it is hard to manage with a new mortgage. I put each cycle on my credit card and pay it off when the medicare rebate comes though - not ideal but is this an option for you? I'm not sure about your clinic but our first full stim IVF cycle with ICSI we were about $1300 out of pocket (this would have been less if we'd already reached the safety net) and about $320 out of pocket for each FET. No matter what I'm sure you'll find a way. Take care of yourself x

Loops: I hear ya RE the expense. We have our first bill due this week $6500! Although I know we'll get most of it back, it's hard to find in the first place., which is devastating. I like infinity's idea, may have to take out a credit card purely for the IVF...

Infinity: Furbabies rock :D! My poor girl had to go to the V-E-T this morning for her needles. Poor baby they were having problems with their sharps and ended up taking 4 goes to get it all done :(. She's been giving me sad, hurt eyes since then. Needless to say it's lots of lap time & cuddles today.

AFM still sniffing & jabbing. Hey has anyone else noticed this, when I inject on my right side, I don't feel a thing, nothing afterwards. When I inject on my left side it really stings all day and it bleeds for about 20mins and then bruises all around the spot. 2nd acupuncture 2moro, looking forward to it. Last time the old man in the cubicle next to me fell asleep and it was snore-fart-snore-fart-snore-fart so I didn't relax too much, too busy trying not to :rofl:! Let's hope I get a quiet one this time hehe
And lastly BOC's Tip of the Day: If you have fill your dog's ear with solution, it's best to shut your mouth and get out of the way quick smart... that stuff goes EVERYWHERE and it doesn't really taste all that good... :redface:

I'll see how I go once I speak to the specialist. I thought we would be looking around $4000 out of pocket but maybe it will be less - i hope. Is ICSI less than other IVF etc?
I did a test couple of days ago and there was still a very faint line but probably the Pregnyl now I just think I will wait for AF or BT if she doesnt come by Thursday.

Well all the wishing has worked - I'm baseline! But, now my FS has decided I need to go on 3 weeks of Progynova and 1 week of Provera to bring on AF. I'm actually pleased because I was concerned about the quality of such an old lining :redface: I did have AF in the middle of last year via the pill (b4 they found my blood clotting problem!) but nothing since then. Apparently FS spoke with the most senior FS at the clinic (since I am not your 'typical' patient) and he advised this. So I'm happy with that.
So - does this actually count as the start of my 1st IVF cycle? Ha ha. I think I'm going to say it does, just so I feel like I'm doing something! Hopefully will get started in a couple of days... And be jabbing in mid-May!

BOC - I laughed at your acu story - luckily my AP only sees one person at a time so no awkward moments!

Loops: I think you are with Monash, I had a look at there website yesterday, and there out of pocket fees are posted on there. You can ring Monash and ask for the accounts dept, even before you start a cycle, and they will give you the run down, so you can budget. Hopfeully u wont need it though ..
and i'm still waiting.............is it something i should ring FS about or is it just all out of wack since stop stopping the drugs last cycle?? I've had slight AF pain at times but NOTHING else!!! CMON!!!!

Your right hopefully wont even have to worry, AF still hasnt arrived so even though I think she is coming I still have a tiny amount of hope. Its been so up and down for me these two weeks, bad AF like pains then they go, sore BB's then that goes, sore back coming and going and a really sore back now. Some slight headaches which is normally a sign of AF for me but nowhere near as bad as normal. So I really have no idea what my body is doing. My BT is tomorrow so will be interesting to see if AF comes today. I may do a POAS tomorrow morning, not sure. :wall:

BOC - I had pain on my left side on Monday night and it bleed but all the other times it has been fine - how observant of each little thing that happens in your body do you become with this!!;)
AFM - I started the Gonal F shots on Friday night and had my first BT yesterday, they said I am right where I need to be at this stage and I have started on my Cetrotide shot last night - this one is a little bit scarier because it is not as simple as the pen shot and there is alot more involved with it's preparation. So far so good with the side effects I am just really tired. I have a BT and ultrasound on Friday morning and they are looking at EPU on Wed next week.:leap:

The longest cycle i've had was 39 days so hopefully it doesn't go that far again and comes soon....
Quick Question what is Metformin for? I've noticed a few people on Clomid taking it and havent bothered to google what its for!

I wouldnt have thought of that. I was going to ask FS for a letter to say what the injections are for, but I realise they wouldnt want the needles on board the plane ..

Have been MIA for a little while after flying back to Oz from overseas and arriving to Easter and lots of catch ups with family and friends and all of my initial AC appointments - things have been hectic to say the least. Have been checking in here though and reading up on everyone's progress but just not had the time to post.

Infinity - hope AF arrives soon so you can get started. I am on my first IVF cycle so yet to find out how much it 'messes' with my body. Hopefully not too much.
Mrs P - I am on my 8th day of injections today. After a scan today they said two more days before trigger. This is only my first cycle but will be about 10 days for me.
B2B - fingers crossed that AF graces you with her presence - soon! All the waiting can be so frustrating can't it.
BOC - haven't had any problems with jabbing so far and not noticing any difference between one side or the other - maybe just avoid the side that causes the probs if poss?

AFM - after 6 days of Puregon injections had a scan today and have been told I have lots of follies - they are predicting around 18 mature ones for collection. Which is good but also a risk of OHSS unfortunately:doh::doh: Back for another scan on Friday and hopefully EPU on Monday.

I've just rung FS about AF taking too long to arrive! They know how impatient I am so they've told me to head in for a BT tomorrow morning! DH and I busting to get on the IVF train to get our BFP for 2009!!!! yeeehhhhaaaaa!!! can't believe how much i want to get back on the injections!! VERY SAD!!

AFU - Kaz started injecting on Sunday, so our BT and Ultra. will be on the Monday, and from there it all shoots like a rocket i have heard lol but realy it already has! Its just all the Pre-stuff that takes the most :rolleyes:

Welcome to all the newbies/returnees.
Melissal - My FS said morphology only affected the sperms ability to actually penetrate the egg. ICSI overcomes that so you shouldn't have any problems.
Loops/BOC - IVF with ICSI cost a little over $5000. Just got around $3000 of that back but I don't think I had quite reached the medicare threshold so you might be less out of pocket than that. Still adds up quickly.
Mrs P/Ella'sMum - I feel for you. I can't stand waiting. Just want to get on with it. Once it all starts happening though, it seems to got quickly. Best of luck!
AFM - Finally managed to get on to PLAs. All paid up and ready to go. Scan booked in for Monday. Hopefully that means there will be a transfer by the end of the week. I'm hoping Saturday so I don't have to take more time off work than necessary.

KMond - thanks for that, 10 days doesn't seem too bad then! I did 3 weeks worth for my failed OI and didn't respond at all to that! I think I'll be on higher doses for IVF though.
AFM - well this is turning into the world's longest planned cycle. Now the FS wants to put me on estrogen for 3 weeks, then progesterone for 3 weeks, then I start the FSH and the rest of the IVF cycle. Hoping he doesn't change his mind again and I'll pick up the scripts tomorrow after work. Which means I should be looking at the FSH at the end of May, and maybe EPU in late June? Wow. Seems far!
Apparently the estrogen and progesterone may turn me into an emotional wreck - anyone had experiences on this? Since I haven't even had AF for years, I'm a little concerned about this sudden influx of hormones into my system!!
Hi all, yes I know I am good at this disappearing act! Just taken a little break from it all, but had our frozen embryo transfer this afternoon, so currently in the 2ww. "vanilla" was our last frostie so if this cycle doesnt work, we are going to have to work out where we want to go from there. 8 cycles - 5 transfers = possibly donor embryos or adoption, but obviously those are big decisions to make.

Finally got AF this morning Cycle went for 35 days, yay! Never thought i'd be so pleased to see her!!
So Clomid tabs start on Sat, a little bit excited about that (briefly, have a night out Saturday night, anyone know if there are problems with clomid and Alcohol?)
Then booked in for HSG Xray on Friday 24th April at 12.15pm...... all good until the lady on the phone FLOORED me with the cost.... $522.00 My GOD, are they using Gold Dye?
After Medicare its only $210.00 Out of Pocket, but I wasn't expecting such a large figure, anyway its all good if it gets me to the end result!
Still no word back on the metformin, no-one has any answers???

Traditionally Metformin is a drug used to treat diabetics, but it has some way of helping fertility issues too, and is commonly used to treat PCOS (I think there is a link somnething to do with a side of PCOS being blood sugar issues)
Have you started it yet? Usually the FS will get you to start on 1/2 tablet 3x daily and gradually build up to full tablet. Some nasty side effects of nausea vomiting and diarroeha. I basically had morning sickness for the first two weeks on it, wasn't pleasant but soon passes.
So with you on the cost of all this!

I got mine this morning too EM!!! Finally!! Didn't need a blood test after all that so I've now booked in for my day 21 appointment before we start the IVF train! yehhhaaaaaa!!!
Good luck with the HSG Ellasmum - it's ridiculous how much all this fertility stuff costs!
BOC is right about the metformin, it addresses insulin resistance which is mainly a diabetic issue but PCOS girls get it as well, and it can help restore normal ovulation. Definitely start on a small dose and work your way up - I had the same issues with nausea and diarrhoea which wasnt nice!

Well that explains why my fs didn't prescribe me met as no issue of pcos that has been diagnosed at this stage.

I hope everyone is doing ok - there is alot of positivity in here at the moment!
This post is just a quickie - I had my BT and first ultrasound this morning and the nurse seemed a little bit concerned about the amount of follicles. I have at least 12 on each side maybe more than 24 all together. I am meant to be having my trigger on Monday and my EPU on Wednesday. I am a little bit freaked out about getting OHSS because my FS was concerned I would get this anyway and started me on a lower dose of Gonal F and the antagonist cycle to reduce the risk. Has anyone had OHSS? How bad is it really? - all the drug side effects sheets sometimes seem alot scarier!!

BOC - pmsl at your acu experience - I'm so immature and still think farts are sooo funny so there is no way i coudln't have laughed. Good luck jabbing and sniffing, I had no pain from Gonal shots but the trigger shot was nasty...

Baby2Bee - you're not being sad - just proactive! I completely understand your impatience. Hoping you are happily jabbing away a.s.a.p. Also, to answer your question there just isn't an 'average' time for IVF success or 'average' IVF cycle to be honest. We are all so different. Hoping you have a dream run and get your BFP first up.
Mahli09 - i had mild OHSS. Very similar to you over 20 follies -they got 18 eggs at EPU. They were going to cancel my ET but their policy was under 20 eggs see how i felt and transfer - over 20 and they would have cancelled. with my OHSS I was very uncomfortable - even to walk hurt as i felt 'full' in there, i also had bloating and a few kilos weight gain (all fluid). Drink lots of water and try sustegen (sp?). OHSS can be very serious but your FS and nurses will keep an eye on you. Weigh yourself every morning and if you have weight gain call your nurses a.s.a.p. Better to be safe than sorry. Just my experience. Hoping you avoid it all together - fingers crossed.

Sandygirl - Good luck with the FS on Monday. I'm not sure if they will make you wait - it probably depends on how you are feeling physically after your ectopic. How are you feeling? No pain i hope.
AFM- AF finally here today - spotted for over a week first though - grrr. So day 1 for me - hoping for a FET in about two weeks time. This will be #5. Not feeling very positive to be honest. Time will tell.
