Hi Guys...thanks for checking on me today...
Had the worst nights sleep...kept dreaming about my brother (his partner is due to have their baby anyday...will be induced on Thurs)...so I guess that's stirring up a heap of emotions for me. Good Morning Everyone!
I havent been in here for ages, been through a relm of emotions and have pretty much stayed away from anything to do with babies! I hope you are all well and coping better than I am with all the TTC.
I just finished my 3rd and final cycle of IUI - with no success.
DH and I had big talks on the weekend and decided to take a break and started planning a massive holiday to the states for Dec / Jan / Feb. I got so excited - and its been all I could think about since Saturday night!
Anyway, we had a follow up appt booked with the FS for Tuesday afternoon - yesterday.
We were both prepared for him to say that IVF would be the next step in the TTC process, and that we would tell him that we were going to take a break and go on holiday.
Which is when the unexpected came in. He told us that because I am still very young (26) that we dont necessarily need to 'hurry' and start IVF straight away for health reasons... BUT... yep - there was a 'but':
He told us that he is 99% certain that at election time, if Labor wins - they will abolish the Medicare Safety Net. So, as we all know - this means no more 80% rebate! So, if this happens - it will happen in November / December.
He recommended that we book an IVF / ICSI cycle for September (4 weeks) and go away and think about what we want to do. I feel like we are basing our decision on continuing with AC purely because of the possible financial constraints.
I thought it would be a good topic of discussion - especially if anyone knows more about it!?!
Hope you all have a fab day! K

Hey all,
please forgive my lack of abbreviation knowledge but this is my first post ever! Also apologies for just popping up un announced, i'm not sure how this works - if you need to be invited or are able to join... I'm a newbie to BB and a little nervous but a friend of myne has joined and recommended it! (tx Al!) :D
My DH and I have been TTC for over 12 months now and after many (many many) tests have realised we fall into the "unexplained infertility" category. DH has poor sperm motility, and that seems to be all they have dicovered at this stage.
Anyway - we are about to embark on our first round of IUI so am feeling a little nervous and curious to hear other peoples stories. After reading some of the entries on this site it seems that some of you have been on very very long journey's and i take my hat off to you all. Your all very courageous and strong women (even if you don't feel it) but every step is one step closer. So good luck to you all.
Anyway am looking forward to sharing my journey with you...

Welcome back Karena. With regard to the Safety Net, I'd be amazed if the ALP decided to scrap it. It was their position in 2004 to scrap it if they had the opportunity. However, in the clear light of day, and with a Federal election to occur this year, it would be extremely unlikely that the ALP would seek to destabilise their Mum & Dad support base for this kind of policy. It would cost them far too many votes and the gap between ALP and the Coalition is not wide enough for Labor to go out on a limb like that.
That's not to say that if elected they wont make adjustments to it, but to scrap it entirely would not only be close to political suicide, it would also cost heaps. In any event they don't want another election breaker like the Mark Latham forest policy in 2004. They'll play it safe. New Governments rarely dismantle infrastructure set up by previous Governments - take the GST as an example: Labor claims that it sucks (and it does) but they wont remove it you can be guaranteed of that. It's just too hard. I'm surprised your FS has this opinion.
Leeshie, g'day and welcome. You're in a similar position to us and some others on this thread. I have dodgy sperm morphology, and DW (Dear Wife) is all clear, but at our last appointment they said my issue was mild enough to be catergorised as unexplained infertility. Like I care, I just want a baby! Unlike yourselves, we weren't offered IUI (although it was suggested by the andrology people as a course of action) and have moved straight into IVF which is happening now.
Briggsy's Girl is a frequent contributor and an IUI expert.

My FS also believes that labor will scrap the medicare safety net if they get in, so this certainly isn't an isolated case.
Just a quick one from me - have to go get a crap load of marking done tonight.
Just got home from seeing Dr S... DH is to have another sperm test - looking at DNA fragmentation this time, I'm having all the auto-immune stuff and clotting stuff tested, a hy-co-sy and Dr S's amazing, special, only-done-at-st-george-hospital test... then I'm going back on the pill (to have AF to have the hy-co-sy, really), and will stay on it until we go back to next gen for another transfer. It's not like we have a hope in hell of a natural conception, anyway. I'm feeling much more balanced mentally and emotionally (mind altering drugs are good!), so I think I'll be back into things as soon as Dr S tells me what they find, if they find anything. Should only be about another month.
anyway... nose to the grindstone for me...

Hi All
Not sure I am in the right area - still trying to get the hang of how this all works :-)
My husband and I have been TTC for over 12 months now. We did preconceptive care, have been working with naturopaths, chinese medicine and accupuncture. The last 4 months we have been on Clomid which hasnt gotten us a BFP and our charting is all over the shop. The next time we can get into our FS is in Mid October so until then we wait. The question I have for the group is does anyone have aany reccommended reading for IVF. The FS said that if the Clomid was not successful then IVF would be the next step. We have been to the info night at Monash which was great but would like more info.
Thanks for any help sent through
Big Hugs to All
Cory
PS - sorry the post is so long

Cory,
I have a DVD from Melbourne IVF and a few patient books if you want them. I live in Frankston South.
BW - I am very happy to hear you're feeling more on top of things, and i hope the marking goes OK!!!
-
Welcome, Cory and Leeshie - sorry I missed you earlier, a little pre-occupied and busy. You've both done the right thing - just jump in and join the fun and games. I hope you find this thread as wonderfully supportive and informative as I have.
Thank you, Jo. I really am doing so much better within myself. It almost feels as though by the time I get to my psychologist appointment I won't even need to go any more. But, there's been some pretty drastic changes in my outlook on life and in the way I'm choosing to see things. I certainly feel ok within myself to begin another cycle, but taking the time out to get Dr S's testing done will be time spent getting to know the new me and making sure the changes are well set in place before we go stirring things up again.
I got my marking done... and now I'm in a happy, sleepy, chatty place - just in time for bed!
