Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Hi girls, I hope everyone is ding great.
I had appointment with FS yesterday to plan IVF on September. I will be on Puregon 250, but 1 week before AF I will start with synarel, I think its twice a day... Also I will take DHEA and was supposed to take melatonin, but at the end she gave me the prescription for DHEA, but not for melatonin, I went to the chemist and they had some over the counter chewable tablets of melatonin. Are they the same, or is this a diff melatonin? I tried to contact FS but she wasn't available. Apparently, they are supposed to help with egg quality.
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
CatyO, the melatonin I take was a prescription. I had to take it to a compounding pharmacy to be made.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Juniper, I'm actually CD6 today (Tuesday). I think the time difference meant you thought 'today' was the previous day... Or something!
Looks like no- one else is cycling this month with me. Oh well. I had my cd6 BT today, and my oestrogen is 'surging nicely', apparently. I am to come in Tomorrow for another BT and US. Hoping for lots of follicles! Thank goodness mum is happy to take DS at 6.30am so I can get there for 7am!
Kind of curious as to how they differentiate between follicles and cysts, though. Anyone know?
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi, sorry, fixed now. It was the timestamp issue, as you guessed... As far as the cysts, I'm not 100% sure since I've not had one, but I think they're often a different shape? But I don't think they can always tell (or maybe that depends on the experience of the person doing the u/s)? GL for tomorrow!
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Thanks, Juniper. :)
I'll ask the sonographer tomorrow. I didn't have any cysts last time.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
So the sonographer said that basically they can't tell the difference between a cyst and a follicle. That's why they check for cysts before you start. And in my case, starting with a 1.7cm cyst, they bear it in mind if the lead 'follicle' was much bigger than the others, but in my case today, the lead follicle wS 1.4cm with the others at 1.3, 1.2, etc, as they'd expect. So one of them may or may not be the cyst still.
Anyway, there were only 5 follicles above 1cm. Plus 2 more below 1cm. :/ cd7... I am disappointed. Last time I had about 13 at this stage and I still only got 3 eggs at collection.
How many follicles does everyone else have at this stage?
I started the orgalutran this morning, because of the size of the lead follicle, and I have another BT and scan on Friday..
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi - at that stage I had 10 follicles, but only 5 were 1 cm or 1.1 cm, the other five were 8mm. Then they increased gonal f, I don't remember if at this stage or 2 days later...

Good luck for tomorrow, Pholi.
I had my HSG yesterday which showed there is some blockage on the left tube. We see the FS again on the 18th Sept. In the meantime I'm still doing cycle tracking. CD11 today. My poor veins!
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Spoons, would you like to be added to The List? You haven't been added thus far because I only add people who explicitly request it (some people prefer to not be on it). Sorry to hear you had a blockage. Did they try to clear it during the HSG?
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
I also wonder if they cleared the blockage doing the HSG?
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
I don't think the blockage was cleared. At first they said everything was normal and then they called back me this morning and said they had a closer look later and that's when they saw the blockage. :(
Thanks for asking, juniper. Could you pop on the list for CD12 tomorrow? Thank you :)

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
All 5 of my follies are growing, the biggest I think she said was 21mm now, and there are 2 that are 13mm... One looks cloudy, like it probably doesn't have an egg, but despite that I'm feeling a bit more positive now!
Egg collection is likely to be Monday.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
The fertility centre nurse called, she said last weeks bloodiest showed no ovulation (day 30) but today's (day 37) did. She reckon I ovulated 4-5 days ago - seriously annoyed the higher the dose of clomid the later ovulation seems to be! Do I have a chance of pregnancy if we did Friday but didn't ovulate till Monday?
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
1MP, yes, you have a chance. Sperm can survive up to 5 days, so you're not out of the running. :)

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Hi Ladies, hope its ok to join you in here. I had my appointment with my FS this week. Was so anxious about it but it all went well. I have some embies ib the freezer but cos my cycle is still all over the place I'll be doing a medicated FET cycle. Will probably wait til Oct/Nov to start cos 2 of my SILS are due to have bubs in the next 2 months and im not too sure I could emotionally manage cycling at the same time. So Juniper could you add me to the list as waiting for Oct/Nov FET. Thanks.

Hi Ladies,
I have started my down reg cycle this week, picked up most of my meds. I had forgotten just how many there are!! This is the part I dislike the most with this type of cycle, seems to take forever when taking the pill:)
Juniper would you mind adding me to the list, I'm CD 5 today.
Good luck for tomorrow Pholi!

Good luck pholi. Whilst I am always happy when friends and family fall pregnant or have babies it still hits a nerve. Probably always will.
PlanetSasha I always find the waiting in a down reg cycle so hard but hope this will be the right protocol for you.
Thanks juniper for adding me to the list. Hope you are recovering ok after your lap. It took me a fortnight to feel back to myself after my lap. Take it easy.

-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
You got my update in. :)
So of the 8 follicles, there were 7 mature eggs and one very immature. And as of this morning, 4 had fertilised and were looking good. 2 failed to fertilise, and 1 had been too fragile to cope with the ICSI procedure.
Now it's just a matter if waiting to see how they develop. I get a progress report on day 3, but my clinic will only do day 5/6 transfers now, so FX I have at least 1 good one by then.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
We got our day 3 report from the lab this morning. Of the 4 fertilized eggs, 3 were at the expected 6-8 cell stage, and one was a little behind at 4 cells.
So that's still ok. I am still a bit worried that we won't have anything to freeze again, but I'm trying to focus on just needing one - one healthy embryo that grows into our baby.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
My transfer is booked for tomorrow morning, 10.30, as long as there's a suitable embryo ready.
Getting nervous...
There doesn't seem to be many others around at the moment, but I have a question.
I remember last time we dtd the night before transfer, and that there are some that think it helps somehow. But we are told by the clinic not to have unprotected sex til after the transfer, so now I'm wondering if the benefit is meant to be in the closeness/oxytocin release, or in the female orgasm, or from the presence of sperm. Anyone got any theories/understanding of this?
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Sneaks in pholi good luck tomorrow. I remember hearing lots about dtd the night before but I'm not sure why, hope someone knowledgable pops in! Sneaks out.
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Sneaks in.....
Pholi.... For FETs I think it's to do with the fact that you might ovulate independently and get UTD yourself.... So it would increase the chance if twins .... I always DTD the night before even though the clinic said no... For stim cycles, your DH can't ejaculate too close to EPU to give the sperm time to be at its best...so there's a break between trigger and EPU... And most people feel too uncomfortable between EPU and ET to DTD... As well as an increased chance of infection as you have had needles through your vaginal wall.... I couldn't DTD during stim cycles as I was too sore.... FETs was what worked for us in the end... We would never know if it was the FET or a natural conception... Although all the natural months, i can't see it would be natural.... But others have had natural conceptions after years of trying and in the midst of IVF.... I do believe that DTD created a more "normal" environment for embryos to 'take'.
But like everything.... Only you will know what you feel comfortable doing and whether it will make you feel crappy if things don't work out...
Sorry for the essay.... I hope it makes sense... Feel a bit like I babbled..... Lol
...sneaking back out again.....

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi - The following paragraph is what my acupuncturist says (about having sex after transfer) in the letter she gave us after transfer:
"Sex. Statistics have shown couples who have intercourse within the first 2 - 3 nights after transfer and then once (or more if you want) per week after that, have a higher succes rate. Orgasm isn't necessary for the woman, but the man must eyaculate. It is believed it helps to "modulate" the immune system, so the embryo isn't recognised as foreign, however the exact mechanism isn't known. If the thought of having intercourse scares you, use less penetration. Don't worry, embryos won't be shaken loose!"
This is a letter with a few other suggestions (diet, lifestyle) that she always gives after transfer. We had sex the night before and l think 1 week later, good luck tomorrow :)
