Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi, I thought it was a protein in the semen or something like that. I wouldn't expect there's a risk of fertilising any stray eggs at this stage. But there could be a risk of infection because of the puncture wounds on the vaginal wall? I'd go with "it's a personal choice". I never did it, but clearly others do...
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Interesting stuff, thanks, ladies.
I was in the mood, so we dtd but used the withdrawal method! Felt like a teenager... It was funny. :)
I'll see how we feel post transfer but I'll try to take on board the acupuncturist's advice, too.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Quick Question Ladies.... So as you know July was our 1st ever cycle of IVF we did an antagonist fresh cycle and it was extremely taxing on my body... I'm currently waiting for AF to arrive so that we can do a natural FET but so far it's late, I'm not pregnant tested that already to rule it out but I never miss periods so am wondering did anyone else ever get messed up from stimming drugs & their whole body go haywire? It's very frustrating... I feel like I'm trapped in someone else's body nothing is familiar since doing IVF... 😕
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Sorry, chellico, I don't know .
My transfer isn't going ahead today. Of the three embryos that we're looking good on Thursday, 2 haven't changed at all, and the third has only grown a tiny bit. They'll have a look tomorrow, but there's not much hope. :(
I was so sure there'd be at least one! I was prepared to have nothing to freeze, but is it too much to ask for to get one? One out of 8 eggs? None is so unfair, that's not even a chance of getting pregnant. All that waiting, and scans, and bloods, and injections, all for nothing, nothing at all. And now I have to go and enjoy my 40th birthday party this afternoon.
So unfair. :(

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Juniper, I'm CD 2 thanks. Although, I'm thinking of throwing in the towel..... :(
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Big Hugs to you Pholi how disappointing... This journey is such a cruel one at times... It's not fair... Hope tomorrow gives some better news... xxx
Nothing2lose big hugs to you too! I hear you there though, I've only done one cycle but I'm not sure I'm cut out for the emotional upheaval of multiple cycles & all that waiting & effort & disappointment we have 1 beautiful girl maybe that's all I was meant to have? 😞
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
I'm still around.
But like N2L- I'm thinking it could be the end of my journey also.
Also, I have no idea what CD I am.....
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Big hugs pholi  I'll keep fingers crossed for better news tomorrow x
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
So sorry Pholi sending lots of hugs and fingers crossed you get good news tomorrow xxx
N2L and Emma I'm so sorry you feel like that, life's not fair when your ttc. I know exactly where your at I have 2 frosties that I'm putting back soon and if that does not
work that's the end for me as well:-( I need to get off the emotional rollercoaster its too exhausting and depressing and heartbreaking and basically it just sucks

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi, I'm so sorry to hear that. We only tried for a 5dt once - we had 7 eggs, 6 embryos, 2 looked good on day 3 and then didn't grow any further... I remember how hard it was to deal with that disappointment, so i hope your straggler catches up tonight. xx
N2l & Emma, I have to say I think I'm in a similar place too. I have been tracking my cycle for 7 years and until May this year I O'd every single cycle like clockwork. I've now had 2 annov cycles in a row and if this cycle makes it 3 in a row I can't help but think my ovaries have thrown in the towel on my behalf... We are looking at donor embryos as an option to complete our family, so it's not necessarily the end of the journey, but that doesn't really make it any less upsetting... I've been feeling quite defeated since the first annov cycle...

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi I hope you could enjoy your 40th yesterday it must have been difficult for you, really hoping for good news for you today and you have 1 to put back, thinking of you xxxx
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
No, as expected nothing today. The one embryo that had grown on from day 3 still had only 10 cells today, same as yesterday.
I have to continue with the Crinone for 5 days, but just once a day. Apparently, if you stop the progesterone too suddenly, your period comes early and that increases the risk of cysts forming.
The embryologist this morning said that in examining the cycle, there is nothing the lab can suggest to improve things from their point of view. So any changes are likely to be from improving egg quality or egg numbers.
They'll call after the team meeting tomorrow, but most likely we'll take a cycle off, then try again the next cycle with a few changes.
Neither the nurse or embryologist would give me any figures on how common it is to have a cycle with nothing to transfer. Or whether of not having one cycle with nothing to transfer increased the likelihood that it would happen again. Surely they know these things?
Has anyone else had an egg collection cycle with nothing to transfer by day 5? Did you ask those questions?
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
But 1mp, I did enjoy the party. I thought it would be more difficult than it was, but only my mother mentioned it and I shut her down mid sentence and told her we're not thinking about it so don't even finish that question, thanks- and she understood.
The party was awesome. The part of me that was at the party had to stay totally disconnected from the part that was grieving the failed cycle, but that first part had an amazing time. :)
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Pholi, I'm sorry to hear your embie didn't catch up. :( As I mentioned above, we did have a similar experience for IVF#4. We did IVF#5 (first IVF with FS#2, first with endo diagnosed/treated and first ICSI cycle) 5 months later and that cycle gave us DD.
I'm not sure how true this is (since I'm not an expert), but I have read that embryos that fail before day 3 are due to poor egg quality and embryos that fail after day 3 are due to poor sperm quality. In IVF#4, we had 4 of our 6 embryos fail before day 3 (so presumably bad eggs) and the other 2 failed after day 3 (so presumably bad sperm). We know from other testing that both DH and I do have quality issues, so, for us, it became a game of luck - getting one of the rare good eggs fertilised by one of the rare good sperm... It all boiled down to luck...
Glad to hear you enjoyed the party in spite of the circumstances. xx
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Thanks Juniper. The embryologist said that yes, the egg drives development til day3, but he explained that failures after this are due to the combined DNA, not blamed purely on the sperm.
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Glad you enjoyed your party. Happy Birthday! Hopefully you will get answers to your questions soon. Sorry I dobt have any wisdon or experience in that area.

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Has anyone been on clomid and the higher the dose, the longer the cycle? I have just finished a cycle on 150mg and had a 46 day cycle!
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Not with clomid but I'm having that issue since stimming in July my cycle is all out of whack now trying to prep for a FET and can't tell them when my AF will arrive now I'm already a week late that never happens to me... 😣

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Booked in for FET today... Not sure what to expect having never done it before... Booked in for my 1st appt with the IVF acupuncturist & Chinese herbalist to see if they can boost our chances... Any tips from those of you more experienced at this than me?

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Hi ladies, I just wanted to stick my head in here and ask a quick question for future reference..
Do you have to be a LT TTCer AND assisted conception to join here?
As my DP and I will be starting TTC next year, assisted, but not LT..
Thanks in advance!
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Tubby puff. We have had lots of people at all stages of AC, not just LTTTC. So I'm sure it will be just fine xox
Chillico, FET = much more relaxed than stim. Much easier on the body. My dd was an FET :) FX!

Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been in much. I have been working like a mad woman trying to get all my orders our before we go on holidays next week!
I had an appointment with our fertility nurse about 2 weeks ago to organise everything for this coming FET cycle. AF is due on 13th Sep so by the time I get back from Bali we will start blood tracking on day 14, I normally ovulate on day 17 so fingers crossed we catch it. I will try and check in and update as much as I can while we are away.
Pholi - sorry to hear things didn't work out love :(
Chellico - Looks like we might be FET cycle buddies this month!
xxx
-
Re: Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception August 2014
Chellico - FET cycle generally less taxing on the body. Are you doing a natural cycle or medicated one? I found the natural FET cycle the best but DD wad from a medicated FET cycle. Not sure if that helps or not.
Welcome Tubby puff
