Emerald Star, mitf and Loops - thanks so much for your kind words. And mitf, yes I absolutely think my ovaries were bursting. I still feel bloated now, but nurse said I could feel like this for a couple of weeks!! Oh well, hopefully it's all worth it.
Anyway, just a very quick update as I have heaps to do. So I'm just popping in with my fertilisation results:
Of the 34 eggs they collected, 33 were good enough for injection (ICSI).
Of those 33 eggs injected through ICSI:
- 29 have definitely fertilised
- 1 more possibly fertilised (this one's a bit slower - was probably one of the last ones to be injected)
- 1 didn't fertilise at all
- 2 were degraded
Not sure what the degraded thing means, but I'm not really worried about it. Because out of a total of 34 eggs, we have 29 fertilised!!!! Yippeee (plus 1 more maybe).
So I'm really happy with these results. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we get a really good number that make it to blastie stage, and that they're good quality too. Because that's a thing that I worry about a bit... the fact that I had so many eggs, that maybe there might be a lot that aren't very good quality. But only time will tell, and I'm definitely keeping my positive hat on.
Sorry girls, gotta rush. Will check in again soon.
Wishes... What an AMAZING (jaw-dropping) result. Fingers crossed that you get heaps of blasties!!! I'm sure that such a great result will help you in your recovery.
Wishes - WOW!!! What a great result Regarding your cancelled cycle though - I hope your head well and truly leaves the 'TTC' headspace so you can come back totally refreshed.
Loops12 - your unwellness (is that a word??) are signs of PG!
Tracy - Will be sending your way so you can have the bestest birthday ever.
Nix76 - hope you're keeping distracted enough. I know what you mean about questions from others - i've become a recluse in the last week and thinking of all sorts of elaborate excuses to explain my non-drinking. When/if the time comes I think i'll just say i'm 'getting myself ready'...! What do other people usually do/say???
Mummawannbe - sorry to hear about the OHSS. Hope you're resting well and staying positive.
Seph - I'm with Emerald Star, i'm pretty sure we'd ALL secretly, and not so secretly, love twins. Definitely an answer to our prayers - will for you.
Motherhood here I come - hope you're staying positive. Whatever happens, you know you're not alone here
Mitf - the acupuncture was great! I honestly didn't think i'd feel the effects so soon but I felt so relaxed during and afterwards, will definitely be going back for more.
AFM - just waiting for my 2nd US on Monday and hoping that will be trigger day as i'm getting sick of sticking things into my stomach
Quick question about acupuncture actually - the acupuncture clinic has recommended I go in after the EPU as well as pre/post the ET, depending on timing of course. I've read lots about acupuncture and ET - has anyone else had it done after the EPU???
Hope everyone is going well and enjoying the weekend.
Wishes-29 fertilsed what an amazing resultthey progress nicely. I know in the month off I had off before ivf was great. It was a relief to not have to worry about the process and just to live normally.
Loops-I hope you are pregnant.
Persephone-DH and I are seriously thinking about transferring 2 embryos depending on our EPU results. He is twin and would really like to have twins alsp.
Tracey-
AFM- I got a call from the nurse today and was told I could start the lucrin on the tenth, yay finally starting.
I have a question for all those ladies who have had egg pick ups. My FS mentioned that they grade the embryos from 1-5.
Does anyone know how they correlate to the cell division? I have read many of you talk about 2 cells, 4 cells and 8 cells. My FS says grade 1-3 are good for freezing, grades 4 and 5 can be transferred fresh but don't survive freezing. Was just wondering if the grades refer to the number of cells.
Starbright: I am so sorry to hear AF arrived hun. I was really hoping this would be your cycle. I now remember what you said about your transfer. Fingers crossed the FS is able to work something out for you so it is not so bad next time. I'm with Nix, open up a nice bottle of vino just for you.
SB ~ so sorry hun GL for your trial run - i suppose at least they are looking into it and perhaps going under sedation for the transfers might be a good option. Hang in there hun and all the best.
Nix ~ sorry your feeling and anxious, hang in there - you will get through it.
Hoping your feelings are wrong and all the best for BT Thursday.
Starbright: Sorry to hear AF showed up today. I feel for you hun Why do we have to go through this each month! It's so cruel! All we can do is try to put it behind us and look forward to the next month.
Nix- hope your feeling better and the headache has subsided. Hoping that you get a BFP on Thursday!
AFM: I feel like crap. I have had a niggling sore/dry throat these past few weeks and when I woke up this morning I had the sorest throat. Anyway took a sickie from work and visited the local doc who prescribed some antibiotics. Not sure if this has any impact with IVF especially in these early days?! I just want to get better so I am 100% healthy for when I officially start. I did have a chuckle when the doc said that if you take antibiotics with the pill you could fall pregnant - if only that would happen
Hope everyone had a good day!

TTC #1 Since Nov 07
IVF#1 - Aug/Sept - Nurse visit on Wednesday
Of the 33 eggs injected by ICSI, 30 ended up fertilising.
Of those 30 eggs, at day 3, we've now basically lost half. My clinic says that for day 3, they're looking for 5-8 cells. We have 15 embryos that are pretty much now out of the running because they're less than 5 cells (eg. 9 of those 15 are still only at 1 cell today, and another 3 have degraded).
But then we have the other 15 embryos that are still within normal range for what the clinic wants (3 of which are above average). We have 2 x 5 cells, 3 x 6 cells, 6 x 7 cells, 1 x 8 cells, 2 x 9 cells and 1 x 12 cells.
So on the one hand, I'm excited about the 15 that are still going (especially the 9 and 12 cell embies), but on the other hand, I'm also disappointed about the 15 that won't make it. In a way, I feel like by getting all those eggs, we're not much better off that our last stim cycle (when we got 15 eggs total), because we're almost on par with the same number of embies at the same stage. So by getting double the amount of eggs this time, all it's done is delay an ET for 6-8 weeks, but we're not really any better off embie-wise.
And again, I'm quite concerned about the quality of the embies too. I didn't find out their quality grading today, but when I speak to the clinic on Wednesday, I want to know the grading quality of each one. We have 3 embies still frozen from a previous cycle, but their quality was graded fair to poor (which is 2 out of 5 I think - second worst grading). I'm just worried that we might get the numbers, but not the quality. Geez, this is all doing my head in. You just can't win.
We won't get a day 4 embie update, so will just have to wait to Wednesday (day 5) before we find out how many made it to blastie stage and therefore, how many they're going to freeze. I will be waiting with baited breath.
Motherhood - So sorry to read that you cancelled your cycle. I can only imagine how hard that decision was for you. Glad to hear you're having a positive attitude for second time around. Good luck.
Starbright - That really sucks with AF showing up. I'm so sorry hun. I hope you can work something out for your next transfer so that it works a bit better (and is a little more comfortable for you).
Lise - hope your U/S went ok today.
Onja - I'm sorry to hear you got a BFN too. to you.
mitf - good luck with the health kick. You're a better person than me. Haven't done much exercise at all lately.
Nix - I know how you feel about coming up with excuses for not drinking and/or the 'when are we going to have kids' discussions. We're building a house so that's my excuse at the moment - "just not the right time to start thinking about kids, you know" (yeah right, if only they knew we've already been trying for over 18 months).
To all those girls in the TWW - Hope things are going relatively smoothly for you, and you're not going too crazy.
wishes- wow that is amazing, shame about having to wait, but what an amazing number of eggs
Persephone1- best of luck to you hun FX you get your blasties
Loops- hope your feeling better soon
Lise- GL for your us tomorrow and I hope you can take your trigger
Motherhoodhereicome- Hugest (((((hugs)))))) to you, that must have been such a hard a decsision to make. Wishing you all the very best for next cycle
SonyaLouise- Im sorry I cant help with your question all I was told was the cell devision. I have actually found my clinic to be very much well....this is the way it is, this is what we want you to do, dont ask anything technical kwim?
Like they will answer most questions but they treat us like we wouldnt understand if they told us what we are asking for therefore they dont. Ive felt a bit put off by that, but have mostly bit my tongue.
My anethatist when I had EPU was the only person yet that I have really felt has respected the fact that I am actually a nurse and do understand the technical terms & such
AFM- I feel great, I am feeling really positive about everything at this point. Although I am a little upset as just now I rang to find out how my embies are (its day 5) and wether they made it to blasties and being frozen but the embryologists had gone home early
Melttc - I Also wondering how do all the IVF stuff, work full time and manage to appear as normal functioning adults (without going loopy)
Tracey and Krikkit - Great results and well Wishes WOW 34 eggs! You will be starting up your own factory - good work.
Emerald Star - Pinapple juice huh? May try it out but perhaps not go overboard.. everything in moderation - I think this is why you see so many discrepancies in these things as someone probably went nuts and ate pinapple all day and had adverse reactions. I will check my text books for any more info on it.
Persephone - Good luck on your transfer
Loops - yes it sure ain't cheap. My DH and I will be re-checking our finances also to see if we can do another this year.
The stickiest fuzziest vibes to starbright, Cass and everyone else doing the 2WW.
Motherhood... I possibly understand your situation a little more. We are also doing PGD with our IVF and also were also given thumbs up for fertility. We had a good collection but only 2 made it to 'qualification stage' and well DEEP BREATH...
I got my period this morning - so looks like its gonna be a big fat no for me I was pretty upset and of course it had to happen on father's day and I was away with all my family who had been very excited as it's taken us two years to get to this point... all in all a pretty crappy day.
Onja- I'm so sorry sweetie. Thanks for the well wishes.
Tracy- I'm so sorry they didn't ring you before they left. That is so wrong.
MHIC- so sorry about your disappointment. Do you have a plan of action for your next cycle yet?
Sonya- Sorry I can't help. My clinic gives me very little info about my Embies.
Lise- I started acupuncture after my first cycle, so I didn't get to use it at EPU, however, I highly recommend it. It really helped me be calm and relaxed pre & post ET. I have been going once a week for about 2 and 1/2 months. Love it!
Wishes- Super effort! Keep drinking and rest up
AFM- I'm going to POAS tomorrow! I'm mentally prepared for a negative though!
MotherhoodHereI come - I am so sorry to hear that your cycle has been cancelled. Disappointments like this can be so heart breaking. Sounds like you and DH have made the right decision under the circumstances, plus at least your FS has a plan for the next cycle and hopefully you will respond better from the outset. I have tried acupuncture, although I wasn't overly impressed with the 2 practitioners I have seen so far. Trying a 3rd acupuncturist tomorrow who specialises in infertility and I have also started a health kick this wend. We will have to keep each other motivated!
Onja - so sorry to hear that AF has arrived. I hope you are felling better soon. X
Wishes - wow 29 little embie. Congratulations that is amazing. I can't wait to hear how they have progressed over the wend. I hope the bloating is subsiding and you are felling better soon.
Sonjalouise - sorry can't help with your embie grading question. I have never heard of that before. Will have to ask my clinic about that on my next cycle.
Lise - glad to hear the acupuncture went well. I had a session prior to EPU but not after. All the best for you scan & BT tomorrow.
Loops - all the best with your natural TWW. I guess DH and I are doing the same this cycle, although I am not sure how the IVF drugs will effect my natural rhythm which has always been pretty good. I bought one of those maybe baby things a while ago but I could never seem to get it to work properly. FX that we might both get a miracle.... as you say no harm in trying!
Tracy - I can't believe they didn't call to tell you the results .... how rude! They should be more understanding that of course would like to know the results ASAP! All the best for the rest of your TWW.
Starbright, Cass, Nix, krikkit and anyone else I have missed all the best for the remainder of your TWW.
AFM - started a bit of a health kick this weekend in the lead up to my FET next cycle. Went for a swim Sat and a ride today, plus am trying to eat really healthy. Hope to loose a couple of kg's and get my energy levels back to what they where before all this TTC business.

My, there has been a hype of activity this past week:
Wishes: WOW and congrats on the 34 eggs! You deserve a break after that tremendous effort! Heres hoping you come back refreshed and rearing to go for the next stage of your cycle!
Krikkit, Cass180, Nix76, Starbright - you are more than half way through your 2WW - hope it's not too nerve wracking and you are all surviving. I have my and toescrossed for you all!
Starbright - GL on your POAS tomorrow!
Tracey - glad to hear the ET went well last week - hope you get the BFP result on your b'day. I too was hoping to get PG last month to coincide with my 35th b'day but it was not to be. GL with the TWW and toes crossed for you too!
Loops12: I hope you are PG too ! An interesting fact to learn that you are quite fertile after completing a cycle.
MotherhoodhereIcome: Sorry to hear your treatment was cancelled. Hope you are doing ok
Lise - hope your BT/US goes well on Monday and your follies are ready for your trigger tommorow as you wish.
Persephone: I am with you sister, twins would be an ideal situation. My DH and I seriously thought about this, but I understand that you have to be atleast 38 before they even consider transferring two embies??
Sonjalouise: Lucrin on the 10th hey, good to hear your IVF cycle is progressing. I visit the nurse on Wednesday - so who knows what's next for me.
Onja ? Sorry to hear that AF arrived today. I usually crack open a bottle of wine and have a few glasses and that usually helps me feel better for a few hours anyway. It's good to remain positive despite these setbacks and move on to the next month which it seems you have already done.
AFM: I have not made a decision yet about telling my manager about starting IVF. I was going to wait and see how my visit with the nurse goes on Wednesday to get an idea of how often I will have to visit the clinic etc. However, I believe I am going to have to mention something as my manager is planning overseas business trips for me at the end of the year.
Hope everyone has a great week!

Onja ~ I really hope you can afford to do another one this year 2. Im so sorry the "witch" arrived. . Its great you're looking ahead, GL with your next cycle.
Star-bright ~ I hope you're wrong and you do get a BFP. I know what its like though, you dont want to get your hopes up too much. GL and I have my FX for you!
Mitf ~ thanks so much hun. Im thinking the hormones will stuff me up too - they certainly did after IUI.
With the Maybe Baby - perhaps you got a dud but Ive had a little trouble now and again with mine 2. Just make sure though u let it dry properly (10 mins) and that you don't have too much on it. GL and all the best with your health kick!
Metttc ~ thanks, that is good to know - here's hoping I have been very fertile the last few days! All the best for your 1st IVF cycle coming up and GL with your work - hope all works out for the best!
