Jodes - I totally agree with buggirl. Don't take the photo. I kept looking at it thinking will it or won't it. Is it a girl or boy. I could clearly see where a baby should have formed and it does make it harder when you can physically see it. I don't think I will be taking the photo this time round, it's just too hard. Like I said you need to keep it simple and minimise expectation it just makes it easier to cope.

Mind Hugs !! - Just wanted to say what an excellent tip you made with the icebrick from the freezer. We had to do two injections for the trigger last night, both the Pregnyl and the Ovidrel. Kim tried your method and she didnt feel a thing with either needle!!!!! Well done!

Selfish post alert - just had a call from the FC. My cycle has been cancelled only two days before the scheduled epu. Apparently my estrogen levels have now plummeted to the lowest low and they do not want to proceed with the pickup. They said now that they see how my body reacts to the drugs they will approach the next cycle very differently - starting me on a lower dosage of puregon and slowly building me up if required. This time they started me on 150ml and within 4 days I had 30 follicles fighting eachother for space and felt so sick with E2 levels exceeding 7000 but then they took me down to 25ml the last few days and my levels just plummeted at an alarming rate. Happy to trade my body for one that does what it's supposed to do!!!!!!!!! Feeling pretty bummed right now...bring on AF and let's start the whole thing again!

Jaxi - I am so sorry sweety. It's a hard thing to have your cycle cancelled. I guess the only positive is it shouldn't happen again as they will know what went wrong and approach it differently.

Try to stay positive and look forward to the next cycle hun, it will get better I promise.

Jaxi - I'm so sorry to hear that. They say the first cycle is trial and error. I feel lucky that I got as many eggs as I did this week on my first cycle given my age and my endo. I was so sick with it all though. But now I'm an OHSS timebomb waiting to happen and can't do implant until mid May, that's hoping that whatever embies make it to Blastocyst this Saturday actually survive the thawing process too. It's such a complex thing IVF - and can take a long time. You will be strong and fresh for your 2nd attempt which is a good thing. Chin up sweety pie.

Twomums - how good is that freezer brick! I thought, stuff the frozen coin, I'm going for something bigger. It just works so well. I hope other people in this forum get relief from it too. Good luck with EPU tomorrow.

We got news that 11 of my 16 eggs fertilised overnight, so now waiting to see which ones make it to Blastie phase. Survival of the fittest. I think the stats are at 40% success rate.

    Take care everyone

Oh Jaxi - i'm so sorry to hear. Take care of yourself - I had a cancelled IUI cycle (which initially we thought was going really well) - I was deverstated almost more than the BFN just knowing your body isn't doing what it should - i know not quite as big as an IVF cycle but i can sympathise.

WLAB - Yay! GL for Wed xx

Mindhugs - 11 out of 16 is great news i have a really good feeling about this cycle for you - even if it will continue til May!

Welcome Jodes - There a few of us first timers in here!

    Hello to everyone else

AFM - on night shift again tonight had a lovely sleep today though have just got back from a nice long walk with the dog - 3rd injection given gotta go and eat some dinner and relax.

Im still just waiting, and waiting...........What are the benefits of a long down reg cycle as opposed to a flare cycle. I was day one with wouldloveabubba and my EPU is still weeks away. On the up side i have passed the one week mark without smoking, although i think DP was about ready to move into the spare room! Just a tad grizzly...Got my synarel and consent p'work in the mail and have Dr appt tomorrow....just gotta keep on waiting....Mel...

    Unhappy

Sorry to hear your news Jaxi. I completed my 1st IVF cycle this month. I found out during one of the scans that I have polycystic ovaries (not PCOS) meaning I needed to go on a low dose of puregon. The result was 22 eggs developing after only a week.

'Nurses and doctors were saying well done - 22 eggs is great'. Well, I found out at the time of transfer that only 9 fertilised and of those 1 was transferred and only 2 frozen. Saw my FS on Monday (first time since the EPU) and he commented that this was a below average performance. Based on averages, he would have expected 14 fertilised eggs and 9 frozen embryos.

I am devastated. He recommended that should the thaw cycle not succeed, he will change things for the next stim cycle.

Point of the story is that it is trial and error....fingers crossed to both of us that the next cycle is better. I'm sure neither of us could deal with the disappointment again. Keep me posted and good luck.

    Hi Everyone,

Rob, BG, Bella55 thankyou for your warm welcomes..its good to hear some more positive feedback about Repromed Adelaide.

I had another appointment today with the FS and was going in to sign the consents for IVF. I walked out of there having done a blood test and booked on for another round of IUI. After chatting with my FS we decided that it would be worth it to give IUI another couple of shots..3 in all is what she recommended but i was happy to go 4.

Im working on a natural cycle so we anticipate the IUI for this saturday. I know its only a 20% chance that it would work but i guess it would be good to know that we gave IUI a good try before going any further.

I am also very concerned about OHSS if we have to do IVF as i have cystic ovaries..not pcos..but they have a cystic appearance with lots of follicles..that is my biggest fear about IVF!

Well i wish everyone luck over the next few days for whatever is coming up in your cycles..im sorry i cant give anyone much support or should i say advice yet as i've only just started FS treatment. I am definitely here if anyone wants to have a chat and i can empathise with you

Thanks again for listening everyone - xo

    Dear All,

Please take the time to click on Buliej's link. This could stop a lot of us from being able to afford IVF going forward. Gee this government are making some very wrong moves.

I've just sent an email to the office of Nicola Roxon MP opposing this. Please make the time to get your point across also.

Pretty much no what the result will be but I suppose there could be the slightest bit of hope - you just never know. Won't get my hopes up too much though. Also have

Yep very very important girls!! I just sent a message to Kevin Rudd, Malcolm Turnbull, Nicola Roxon, Lindsay Tanner, Peter Costello, Peter Dutton and my local MP Christopher Pyne. I really want to get across that infertility is a medical issue and as such should have protection under the safety net. Otherwise is it just the infertile rich who are allowed to have babies!! No fair!! I pay taxes too!!

Hi Ladies, thank you to all of you for such thoughtful messages! I had a good cry yesterday and have now picked myself up off the ground and am ready to move on.

CP, you sitch sounds very similar to me. I also only found out I had PCOS this cycle with 30 follicles doing their stuff within 4 days of the injections. I had suspected I had mild PCOS previously but had never had it diagnosed. This just confirmed it. Now they know to start me off on a smaller dosage next time. They just jumped from 150 to 25 because I became so sick! Interesting what happened from your 20 eggs though. Just goes to show it really is trial and error and we're the lucky guinea pigs.

I also sent a good long letter to all those PMs Buggirl and have also managed to get friends and family to write letters. It is SO important. I for one will be devastated if they cut the Safety Net. It will just make fertility treatment unattainable and with it my goal of ever having children. Usually I leave the letter writing and campaigning to others but this time I thought I couldn't just sit back and hope someone else would fight for something that means so much to me.

I know a few ladies were having EPUs today. Wishing you all the best of luck ladies!!!

My FS just called me himself to offer his apologies for the way things turned out this cycle and said he wants me to wait a month before starting the next cycle as my blood work shows my body has taken quite a beating and he wants all my hormones etc to return to their normal level before starting again. He also mentioned that he would approach things differently next time by using a GHRN Antagonist Cycle whatever that means. He did mention there was a different drug involved. Off to google but if anyone has any information to assist that would be great! thanks again ladies.

I too have never written a letter to any government official - but I had to for this one. Also, I probably could have named the thread better - it really should be "IVF to be taken out of Safety Net?" because it's not just means testing that is on the table but even having IVF covered by the safety net at all.
