Traceylee, I was told that it would all depend on how things looked at my second scan. If I had enough leading follicles (the big ones that are likely to contain nice, mature eggs) then we'd be able to go ahead with collection, but the nurses were preparing me for the likelihood of not going to transfer as soon as they saw my levels were sky rocketing. If I had heaps of tiny little follicles, they wouldn't be able to get enough mature eggs from them and would have cancelled. It was such a relief to hear them tell me that my huge blobby ovaries were exactly what they wanted to be seeing at that point! In the end it was actually a relief to wake up to see freeze all on my hand. I'd just been through a couple of months where I'd had a lot of bleeding (30+ out of 50 days - at one point so bad I narrowly avoided being hospitalised), failed to respond to synarel, failed to respond to a trigger shot, failed to respond adequately to primolut, and then initially failed to respond to puregon... then going into daily monitoring with 5am starts because of the hyperstimulation. I was physically and emotionally exhausted, and I guess I knew within myself that there was no way my body was going to hold on to an embryo at that point in time.
As for the wait - I was told I needed to have a rest cycle in between the stim cycle and the FET cycle, from what I've seen that's fairly standard. I didn't really feel completely better until I was about three weeks into the rest cycle, so I think it was for the best. I did get to use the drug my FS planned to use for ovulation induction (he prefers natural cycles and I don't ovulate) on the rest cycle, and that reduced a lot of stress for the FET as well, as it wasn't a new drug and I know how it made me feel already, and I knew it worked.
How high are your levels? I'll give you a run down on how mine went (and my puregon dosages) so you can compare.
5 days @150IU - 283
4 days @300IU - 2834
2 days @200IU - 9200 (Monday - this was the point they started to worry, with a week to go)
1 day @100IU - 13200 (wednesday)
1 day @75IU - 14488 (thursday)
my final dose of puregon was withheld, and I just had lucrin on the Friday night, with my trigger Saturday evening. EPU was bright and early Monday morning.
If they start talking cancelling without collecting, I'd try arguing. Yes, you'll feel like absolute hell for a few weeks, but if you can actually get some embryos in the freezer, even without a transfer, you'll feel so much better about where you're at. They do suggest that hysperstimulation can sometimes effect egg quality, but we did ok there. 26 collected, 21 mature, 15 fertilised, 12 good at day 3, 4 blasties frozen at day 5. They'd have been really happy to have had 1 or 2 blasties so were over the moon with getting 4. We had another three that made it to blast, but they were missing the bits that form either the baby or the placenta.
I hope that can give you some confidence, Tracey. Even having been there, I'd fight for collection and freeze all, rather than completely cancelling, but I guess that depends on just how your follies have grown.
