Me too, and sometimes i think if they just lived around the corner it would be easier to explain the whole thing to them, but over the phone and emails just never really come across right. For now it's easier to say nothing.
Just a funny parent story...mine keep saying they'd better come here for Xmas, and they are making a big deal of it, and saying odd things (like not to stress cos that they will stay in a hotel). DH and i have figured that they think i am pg, and they don't want to miss baby's 1st Xmas. Funny! They haven't booked tickets or anything yet, and i guess they are waiting for the 'announcement'. Well, i guess eventually they'll work the dates out and give up. Maybe Xmas 2008!!
They just Skyped me while i was typing this - their ears must be burning :D

Hi everyone

Just got the phone call from MIVF - my egg fertilised abnormally - apparently there was an issue with the sperm but the scientist couldn't give me any more details than that. So no transfer on Monday :cry:... I feel absolutely devastated - I have tried so hard at making this cycle work but it seems that it has all come to nothing. I won't know any more until I see the FS this week. And DF goes away again tomorrow morning, so it is just me and my furbabies to keep me company for my week off. Does anyone have any suggestions about what DF can do to improve his SA? That's about all I can come up with at the moment - hard to see the keyboard with tears in my eyes!!

Rols - firstly why wouldnt all aussies have an obsession with London - it great and my home town so watch it buddy!!hehehe. i do agree with the fact that most Australians that go to London sometimes waist there time there not getting around Europe as much as they could i mean i know people that spend a whole year in london with the odd weekend to france/ spain - what a wast and it wasnt because they were working it was cause they were too ****ed at the slug and lettice !!

HM - GL with treatment in the UK i would be very interested in how it all works over there. I believe your first cycle is 100%covered but NHS but then you have to pay for any more if required?? What are the cost like if you dont mind me asking ?

Jo - Great news with the alternative treatment i hope you are pleasently surprised with its effects and that your headach is gone .xxAlso where are your parents?

Holly sorry i dont post to see how Luke has been but glad to hear that he is on the mend and i guessing your in the TWW with Antonia, i havent been to see her since with last spoke

Oh Cheryl...I am so sorry. The devastation of the end of a cycle is such a heart breaking, overwhelming feeling...I was so hoping if was something you would never have to experience. You have experienced a loss...the loss of the hope of conceiving your precious baby...it is real and it hurts...be kind to yourself...cry, scream and do what ever you feel you need to do to get through today..worry about tomorrow when it gets here. I'm thankful you can see your FS this week, any longer a wait would have been hard. Take care sweetie...we're all here for you...sorry I can't help with suggestions for DF but I'm sure someone here will know where to go or what questions to ask...here's praying for answers xxx

Chez - i'm really sorry sweetie, we had everything crossed for you. Not to minimize your pain and sadness, but i had a shocker of a first cycle too. Real shocker. And it really really sux. You just don't expect it, and then it feels like a fall from a great height! It does get better, and soon you'll be back where i am again. I have heard from lots of ladies who had a cr@ppy first cycle and have gone on to :bfp:'s later. You are in fine company! It doesn't make it any easier - but let yourself be sad, and a bit mad ... and don't be too hard on yourself.
I posted a thread asking for tips to make DH's :sperm: better. Flowerchild (Deb) and Baby Amore and a few other ladies gave me a few great ideas so i'll try to find that for you. Here it is...

Chez - just wanted to drop in and say how truly sorry i am for you right now - i know how heartbreaking it can be to put your all into this and then not get to the TWW - it is something i have been hoping all week that you would never have to experience. as the other ladies have so beautifully said, give yourself time to grieve. you will go through each stage of grief because something you have hoped so much for has been taken from you without a reason. i hope you get some decent answers from your FS this week - take a list of all the questions that have run through your mind - not just today, but anything you can remember wondering about this past week - no matter how trivial it may seem - you're better to ask too many questions and get solid answers, then to walk out of your appointment with a big question mark hanging over your head.

Chez, it sucks, it really does, but just try and bear in mind what many of the girls have said, and particularly what Kotare said about first cycles. Sometimes it works first go for people, and for others the first cycle goes belly up. You shouldn't lose any hope that you will get your BFP. There's certainly no reason why on the next cycle you wont get more than one egg and therefore more chance of getting things right.

And of course in these circumstances everything becomes about the cycle, so when things don't work out it is a very big fall to endure. You'll see the light at the end of the tunnel in due course.

Loula - nothing against London (apart from the fact it's a huge city) - I'm just having a bit of a dig at people who think England is comprised of London and a weekend trip to the beach at Brighton. There's so much else to see and experience. I find it funny how the Australian media often talk about places like Manchester or Liverpool in terms of how many kilometres (or miles) they are from London. It's like the movie Team America where the rest of the world is X km from America.

I am yet to catch up on all the news since I've been away, but will try my hardest tomorrow.
Well, for those that haven't read my journal, I have endometriosis, and a twisted tube, though at our follow up appointment he used the word "distorted", endo was not removed, FS thought he would damage my uterus and ovaries as I have "Sheets" of it and not chocolate cysts.
I started sniffing Synarel this week, and we go back to the FS in 12 weeks to start scnas,injections etc and then we make the 1000klm trip to the clinic he has referred us onto as he can only do IUI at his office and not IVF. He told us we would have about 3% chance with IUI and about 50% with IVF. I'm so confused with all the paperwork (and prices which do or don't apply to us)

Anwyay, enough of me for now. Will aim to catch up tomorrow sometime :)

So deeply, deeply sorry to hear your news. I NEVER seems fair, as we all know. I also feel for you that DH is going away, but positively, it may give you time to cry those tears out. A week off is a good thing!! Try to keep busy if you're feeling up to it. My thoughts & heart goes out to you both.

I hear CoQ10 is workable but not proven on :sperm:. You really should get some advice before taking it though. I know you both can take it. I hear it is absolutely fantastic for the immune system & regenerating cells (so this is a really good thing) and this is proven. I know a few people who take this daily. One lady is 63 & just came back from trekking mountains in Vietnam, she's amazing and CoQ10 is all she takes. It must be good. I hear another is Goji juice. It does the same thing but I dont know anyone on it. Zinc is an old time favourite for the guys.

Hi everyone

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts. I am still feeling quite down and have spent the afternoon reading the newspaper (we are house hunting!) and doing lots of puzzles - sudoko, crosswords etc. - to keep my mind off of reality for a while :( But I can't avoid it too long as I will be on the phone to my FS first thing tomorrow morning to sort out an appointment ASAP for the next cycle! I have to jump back on that horse now! And I have been a slacker and not done any exercise since for the last 3 days so back into my routine - the more into the healthy weight range the better (I am only about 2kgs above it at the moment, but it gives me something else to focus on!). And I have contacted my acupuncturist who also does chinese herbs - she spoke about COQ10 when I first visited with her so I am hoping that she will be able to recommend a treatment plan for DF. But my DF tells me I got it wrong - it is not motility he has the problem with but morphology and the zona binding (which is why we did ICSI) so I am not sure if that makes a difference supplement wise!

Haven't been on today like I was hoping to - I decidied to clean my house before everyone gets here next weekend... and also while my two men weren't here! (Luke is at Dads and DH was at work!)

My first cycle was written off, too, and the height of devastation is just too hard to put into words. I can offer that it does get better, and the best medicine for it is to start looking forward to your next cycle... and finding out what you can do extra for next time - There is always something new to try xxx
Tracey mentioned Goji juice - Dh and I have been taking a similar juice - Xango for the past few months to help just our overall wellbeing, and for me all things TTC.
It does help with the mans side of things if there is any issues with sperm, and I can honestly say we both feel amazing drinking it.
We get a box of 4 bottles delivered approx once a month ($140) - and this lasts both DH & I about a month. If you were to buy it by the bottle I think its about $60???
Everything starts to add up, but the things this stuff helps is truly amazing.
If you email me your address, I can send you a cd about it - Its a doctor in the US talking about all of the things it can help aid.
When DH brought home the cd, I must admit it took me a while before I actually put it in & listened to it, but once I did, let me tell you, its pretty impressive stuff.
One of his clients also takes it and gave us a bottle to sample.. we
bought a box as soon as we had drunk the bottle he gave us!

ME - DH back from thailand with pressies for me!!!! he ended up in hospital two nights after getting back. we thought he was having a heart attack! it ended up being 'economy class syndrome' being cramped up at the back of the plane for 6 hours caused clots in his lungs. after gaining a few more grey hairs from worry (me) he had antibiotics for a week and is now back to normal... so our flight to thailand in november has been upgraded to business class (sooo excited!) which means extra luggage allowance for more shopping, which means MORE handbags and shoes!!!!

had my day 12 BT yesterday for FET. levels were 680 and had to go back again today and levels are now 750. so i have to go for BT for the next few days. getting up at 6 to beat the traffic is already taking its toll. i have a hour and a half round trip..... oh well the end picture will be worth it... i think my levels have to be over 1000 before the LH surge and ovulation.... does anyone know?

Yep, Sonya, I'm still keeping an eye on everyone. You're all very much in my thoughts, and I still can't believe how incredibly fortunate I am, and it utterly breaks my heart when there's bad news in here. I'm still praying for everyone, and still sending as much positive energy as I can. I think I need to redouble my efforts! It's nice of you to remember - my scan is tomorrow and I'm incredibly nervous! I'm very glad to hear that your DH is ok after that nasty scare! I'm afraid I never asked about the numbers with my FET - I just turned up when they told me to and did what they said - it made a change to my number obsession with the stim cycle! The 5am starts for blood tests are a distant memory already... not something I will miss at all! There's been some amazing success with FETs lately, so I hope you can follow along with great news very quickly.

Holly - sounds like everything is very promising there!

Ellie - best of luck for the new job (not that I think you'll need it, it sounds brilliant!) and the FS appointment. It will be great to have answers soon.

Cheryl, still thinking of you :hugs:. I wish I had a magic wand to wave for you all to fix everything. :( Hopefully your FS will have learnt from the way your body has responded this time and will have a more effective plan of attack for next time. Chez, I am so sorry to hear your news :hug:

I just wanted to drop in quickly to say I may be MIA for a while. I am also not sure if our current IVF cycle will continue. Yesterday I had to call an ambulance to take DH to hospital. He has a stoma (from an op to remove his colon 2 years ago). Yesterday it develope a blockage and emergency surgery today revealed that his small bowel was strangulated and they had to remove a section of it and create a new stoma. He is currently in ICU. I am physically and emotionally exhausted. I am continuing with the pill as it is still early on in the cycle, so I am not going to make a decision on that soon. It just reminds me that DH is the most important person in the world to me, and I don't want to have a baby if he isn't going to be well enough, or even be here at all to share it with me. So much to think about. There were moments in the last 24 hours where I actually doubted he would survive. It has certainly put things in perspective.

OMG- Megan - i'm so sorry to hear your hubby is so unwell! i completely understand your need to take time out - from BB and from TTC in general - you're completely right - your DH is the most important part of your life right now. i hope he makes a speedy recovery and that yesterday is the worst of this. my thoughts are with you and your DH at this time Megan - take care

Megan, I really don't know what to say! I'm really sorry to hear this news, and I'll be wishing your DH the speediest and most thorough recovery possible. I'm sorry you have to deal with this on top of your cycle. I hope you can make a decision you are comfortable with. :hugs:

Trigger went fine - i make DH do that one - it's psychological, but the needle is a bit scarey! He hates it but he does a good job!

Well i am day 5 of cycle today so hopefully will ovulate before i go away so we can get another natural cycle in before ivf ( just in case a miracle wants to come our way)

Babe, i am so sorry. I know what that is like to be typing through the tears. I wish i was there with you to give you a big hug.:grouphug: I know nothing can take the pain away but we are here for you beautiful girl. Being by yourself is difficult, We won't let you go through this alone, so anything we can do for you just ask. Your dreams will come true and Rols is right, now you can prepare yourself because so many woman have a bad 1st cycle and success ont he second.
You are a strong woman and you will get through this but others are right, it is important to grieve.

Hey, have not had a great morning either, AF came to town 2 days late after getting my hopes up. I can't help but look aver everything and think, what the hell am i doing wrong. I don't deserve this!! So a hot water bottle and a few naprogesics (which i hate taking but i am rebeling this month and need a break) and i have been watching the Diana Concert. God that woman was and remains amazing. If you can watch it, do, it is a great show. I wish one day i can touch lives in a fraction of the way she has. So much love and peace....and every now and then a update on the terrorist attemps in the last couple of days. God it makes me mad and make my problems small in the scheme of things. But it is fine for us to have moments of self absorbtion sometimes i think. This sort of thing makes me cry, i know i am a bit of a sap, but i love music and how it can bring the world together. I wish more of this sort of thing can happen.
So not a good day but i am handling it well so far. The next few days are the hardest i think, so will be looking for a pick up soon i think.

Hope your trip goes well. Our house is always open to fellow aussies. My hubby is 1/2 Italian and we lived there for 6 months 8 years ago, in the north in a little town called Albenga. Loula, Yes, we are starting the IVF journey over here and don't have all the info yet. As soon as i have facts and not just what people have told me i will let you know. We are about to move to Brentwood in Essex and there is a Fertility clinic there. So when we move and have gone through registering again, you know how it is. We will go in and get started. My fingers are crossed that we are covered for our first cycle as we are skint. However i am aware it is not always plain sailing. We wanted to go to the Homeopathic Hospital as they have a womans clinic and treat endo etc however teh PCT where we live won't fund us on NHS. I have appealed with no luck. So although they offer free NHS treatment, it is not always to everyone, everywhere. My fingers are crossed and i amd staying optimistic. I am sure we will get a lucky break and hopefully a successful and comfortable treatment. I am quite nervous to be honest. I get very anxious easily these days have not been coping well with the heart ache.
We are in line for some good luck.

Sorry, havent been around lately either but have been reading the posts. Just havent had the heart. We had our FET. So anxious the embryo wouldnt make it to thaw. It did. Period arrived four days early on Sun morning. Devastated. Dont know where we are supposed to go now. Donor...?? I had dreams about little babies last night, DH asked if he was in them, i said no :(. Oh it just hurts.

My DF has just left for a visit to each of the capital cities this week - with all of the news of the terrorist attacks overseas my over emotional brain is worried about him and his safety... Holly - thanks for your offer of the CD. I have sent you an e-mail with my details.

From me, my FS rang me first thing this morning, which was really nice. She was very understanding and said that they may never know why the egg didn't fertilise properly - she does know that the egg looked very health on Saturday, but it just may have been one of those eggs that wasn't going to fertilise. So will make an appointment to see her this week to discuss options and have a plan in place so when AF arrives we can get going again! Today is my first day of sick leave - I have decided to take it anyway because mentally I am not in any state to be working or trying to act normally at the moment. I find that the grief comes in waves every few hours, and I just start crying at the smallest of things - even watching TV sends me off. So I am not sure what I am going to do with myself this week without going stir crazy. I might dig out my collection of Sex and the City DVDs and watch them - there aren't too many babies (except for a couple of episodes) in them!

To everyone else, I hope everything is going to plan for you. There are so many people in here now that someone needs to get pg real soon as I can't keep track of what is going on with everyone!

Mel, try not to lose hope just yet. I don't know the specifics of your situation, but I can see from your signature that you've had one IVF/ICSI which resulted in a pregnancy (and miscarriage) and one failed FET. Practically speaking (and practical is all that I do) it's still very early days. I understand that your bloke has the varicocele issue (I now believe that I have too, but that's another story) but clearly his sperm was capable of fertilising your egg on the first IVF/ICSI cycle. So I imagine it would be too early to be considering donors. I gather that these days with the increasing uptake of ICSI, donors are generally only used in cases of azoospermia - as long as there is sperm there they seem to be able to work wonders with them.

As for the failed FET, well consider how many people actually do fertilise naturally each month but the embryo does not implant and they don't even know it. Before long, one does implant and bob's your cousin's aunt you are pregnant. A friend of DW's had two m/cs (natural conception) before her third pregnancy, which seems to be going ok thus far.

Just try and stay on top of it. I'd reckon the signs are looking pretty good for you both.

Chez, you should make the most of your sick leave to mentally recharge. Re the unsuccessful fert. - it happens everyday all over the world and no-one knows about it because AF rocks up on cue. It's great that your FS said you had a healthy egg. I think this should alleviate some of your worry regarding your age.

I just re-read the thread again. Man, when it rains it pours. Here's hoping we ALL get some great news soon. Loving thoughts to all.

I only just had my morning needle. I forgot!! I cant believe it. I never forget it cos its so important.

Went in this morning for my BT to see how the "hatching" is going. No news as yet, hate the wait.

I have been asked to go on a documented trial which will start as soon as my levels rise. Its another needle to take daily b4 egg retrieval. Dont know what it is but it is suppose to help! It can make me bald for all I care as long as it works. Another clinic has been using it but so far no certain proof or documentation. I dont know how long I take it for or what its called but as long as I get pg & keep them full term I dont care.

Does anyone else take 2 injections before egg retrieval? Has anyone done this trial?

When they call with my news I will ask them and let you guys know. I was just so happy to get a "new development" that may enhance our chances that I asked nothing just signed. There is the "may not work" but Im praying for a good statistic.

Hi girls....Af came last night,only a week and half late. I called my FS to let him know and he said because my af has come so late he is going to start my treament this month,i nearly fell over backwards.He is starting my pill on saturday. I feel strange,weird,anxious,scared and even abit sick:D,i guess its all really just excitment. I know i have a long road ahead of me and im sure its not going to be a nice smooth road im sure it will have alot of pot holes. Anyway i just wanted everyone to know how things were going.

Me - Feeling exceptionally average today - BB tenderness is getting stronger, and have had slight bouts of nausea on and off this morning... Vegemite toast is always the best cure!!!!
Am so happy to be on holidays - Although I have organised a few students for each day this week... 2 weeks without an income is not good, especially when Lukes birthday falls straight in the middle of the 2 weeks!!!
Have done my lessons for today, though so I have a date with my Harry Potter book for this afternoon... need to finish it before the new book in 2 weeks!!!

Hope everyone is doing ok.... Praying for some good news in here soon!!!!

You will have a fantastic time. I took 2005 off from IVF & did a similar trip (no England). Flew to Zurich & drove down Italy to Rome. Went to Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Bologna, Venice, Florence, Chiante Region, Lugano, Bellagio, Verona & Rome incl Vatican City (not in that order). It was an amazing trip. Got on a Cruise ship at Pontevecchio & did the inside of the boot, Pompeii, Sorrento, Sicily, Malta, Nice & Cannes. The French Riviera is so beautiful. The countryside in Europe is so amazingly beautiful. The markets in Nice are fantastic & worth a look. We stayed at the Majestic in Cannes. So nice, but they allow dogs in the rooms in France. I like puppies but that was really weird. The dog food is even on the Room Service Menu. Yuck........ Lucky we had one in English. We may have eaten it otherwise. It is terribly hot in Europe this time of year but at least you may have a chance to jump into the Mediterranean. Vatican City is worth a look but it is so overcrowded there & beggers everywhere (watch your bag). Florence & Venice have fantastic markets too.

NICE:- The beach in Nice cost something like 15 Euros to go onto, swimming or not. No pay, no play. You can get a guy that has a cart on the back of a pushbike & he will take you everywhere for 1 Euro. Bargain him, he will try to rip you off. So will the cab drivers. The people in Nice are lovely though. The markets near the beach are great but the ones on the other side of the city are the best. Make sure you go down the tiny alleys that are lined with cafe's (near the outer markets). There are a lot of beautiful shops, almost hidden. I loved Nice & I would go back there in a breathe.

Well, I see my FS on Wednesday morning. Hopefully with a new protocol and plan in place which might help to sort my head out. I am much more positive when I can focus on the future and when I feel in control which is probably unrealistic in these circumstances, but being proactive is close enough!
