Lou, so sorry for such a $H!T day you poor thing, and BW too, wow ! Hope tomorrow is a better one for everyone. I had my SIL turn up for a few hours just when I wanted to sleep and then a dear friend who knows nothing of our struggle also came for hours. I kept saying "would you like some lunch?" and she said "no, I'll get going in a minute" but that went on for ages and I was desperate for something to eat and was getting to the spew stage!! Luckily I didnt...
Rach, so sorry AF is on her way. Hope you and DH dont take it too hard.
BG, hope she turns up soon!!! Dont want you having to take double doses of nasty stuff.

Sonya, well done on your frosties, you clever girl! That is wonderful news but I do understand about your dilema with remainders... I would just sit on them for a while too, you never know, you may want a dozen!!!! It is amazing isnt it, that from the moment you know they have fertilized you begin to think of them as little people and once you know you have them inside you it is amazing, just as though you found out you are pg!!! I went around all the time thinking of them and sending them my love and positive energy to hang on. You get really attached. People just dont understand I guess if they have never thought about that stage of things before... People do say the stupidest things but I guess mostly just out of ignorance.

Wow it's been busy in here. A whole thread and a bit has gone by without me...DAmn.
I have been hiding out a bit and trying to sort out my feelings about where we go from here having not the finances to go for another PGD cycle. I am so not a patient person...when I want something I want it NOW!!!

Anyways I finally bit the bullet and we went back to see the fertility specialist today and I am feeling a lot more positive about it all.

He explained that even though we only had two embryos out of the 12 that fertilised pass the testing that it didnt mean we would get such bad results every time. Apparently they would expect about 40% to pass on average but the average may not be just one cycle so it is quite possible that the pendulum may swing in our favour on the next cycle giving us more good embies to balance out the curve If you get what I mean. BW you're a maths teacher you might be able to explain it better. He said he will only start to worry if on the next cycle we still have bad results. Then he said that may indicate that either the eggs or the sperm may need to be ditched in favour of a donor.

Because it will be quite a while before we can save up for another cycle We have decided to do what we can to be proactive and get everything checked out so I am booked in next for a lap and hysterocscopy to check and see if there is any reason that can be seen for the implantation failure and miscarriages. Because we have PHI and this is a covered procedure we thought why not cover all our bases. It is good too because he is a man who likes to cut out any endo as opposed to diathermy so if anything is found he will fix it all up on the spot. I also asked about more aggressive progesterone therapy next time and he is very open to that which is great as I have a gut feeling this may be part of the issue. I tend to spot for quite a few days before getting Af so I dunno...again trying to cover my bases.

Anyways now we just have to save up another $5000 and start again...hmmm...what can I sell on ebay...anyone one want some lightly used mens golf clubs...hehe!!!! ssshhh don't tell Geoff!!

Best way I can explain chances and probabilities and stuff...

If you were to sit down and toss a coin 100 times, you'd get mighty bored, but you would expect to see heads 50 times and tails 50 times because it's an equal chance of both. BUT, there's nothing stopping that coin landing heads all 100 times. Of course, it's extremely unlikely that it would happen.

The number is just way too big for my calculator to cope with, but if we reduce it to only ten coin tosses, the probability that it lands heads every single time is slightly less than 1 in 1000.

Probability hinges on what we expect to see happen, but just because we expect to see it doesn't mean it must happen, and if it never happens, it doesn't make the probability wrong.

As for "average", it's a term that endures much hatred from maths teachers! "Average" can mean so many different things. There's the average that we all know (mean) where you add up everything and then divide by how many there were, there's the average (mode)that is interested in what occurs the most, the average (median) that is interested in what the middle of the whole thing is... And there's so many different ways to explain why a particular result can be so different from the "average" but still mean things aren't irretrievably bad.

Here endeth this morning's maths lesson. :D Never give me an excuse to talk about maths, I'll go on for ages! And on a forum, there's nobody to stop me! I don't have to watch the eyes glazing over! :lol: Sorry, I'm very passionate about what I teach - I love numbers!

I just don't have time to go into it more of an explanation this morning. Seems to me the probability stuff is more relevant to what Mel was talking about, but I can go further when I get home tonight... which will be quite late as I have acupuncture this evening. Stinking horrible headaches all last night and still this morning, and I'm being stupid enough to still go in because of all the crap that's gone on. Temp still up this morning, so I'm pretty happy that I have actually ovulated. Yay me! Which reminds me... must get chart printed...

Well my aunty gig went well last night coped great no emotional outbursts just lots of love for my new neice. Which was great because i was so panicked Hyde was going to rear his ugly head! Also DH wasn't there because he is sick so it was just me and the inlaws... apparently (warning lots of sarcasm coming up).... holding a new born can help you fall pregnant ... thanks so much for the pearls of wisdom MIL!

Well just to clear up all the confusion no EPU for me with are doign a frozen so just 2 more jabs and then transfer of my two blastys on Monday! yay 4 More sleeps!!

man, it's gonna be hard to keep up with this thread!! Subbing on so i can get email updates and stay up to date with everyone!!! But i have no idea if i'll be able to contribute as i can only get on once a week or so (and that's a whole life-time of chat to read up on !! LOL!)

Anyways, i'm due for bloods on Monday to see if we can do a natural FET this month or not. Checking on my hormone levels etc. Not sure if we'll get a green light but i'm hoping! We go through SIVF Newcastle.

We are not telling anyone IRL. I prefer to get through the stress of the cycle without spectators wondering if we are pregnant or not. So it will be nice to chat to you all (if i can keep up!!!!)

Anyways, i'm off to read up on the events so far in May 2 pages and it's only the 3rd!!!!

I am very new to this site. I just had a EPU last week, where they took out 31 eggs however I ended up with quite bad OHSS, so they wont let me do a FET for another 2 -3 months, I am so disappointed. On the bright side though I have 17 embryos, we also had ICSI not IVF. I would like to know of any one else's experience with OHSS and ICSI.

Jane, just want to say a quick welcome, and let you know that you are not alone. I did IVF+ICSI and also ended up with OHSS and no transfer. Currently waiting for my next cycle to start so we can do a FET.

Well, the big news for me is I got the phone call from the clinic today and.... drum roll....


It is a positive... I am preggers!!!!!
Yes people, after 10 loooong years of trying we have finally achieved our very first official :bfp: I am soooo happy that I can stop worrying about that bit and concentrate on worrying about all the other stuff now lol DH is sooo cute, he bought me flowers and can talk of nothing else.
I can only thank you all for your support in here over the last months and hope like mad that everything continues to go well. And of course, pray that you all follow the trend really soon!!!!

Sonya, i know what you mean about your embryos. We are debating a similar thing. We only had three eggs retrieved. One gave us our son!! And the other 2 are frozen. It's a no-brainer that we'll use both those frozen ones but cos we don't expect either of them to work (like BW's math example! statistically it's possible that from three retrieved eggs we would get two babies it is also bloody unlikely! And even for them both to survive the thaw it's unlikely). So i expect to be up for a full new cycle in a few months. In which case they will use a higher stim dose so i expect to get more eggs. And it bothers me to not give them all a chance at life.... ??

:) Thanks, everyone. It means a lot to hear things like that when I've been having a fairly cruddy week at school. But today was better, acupuncture was great, and there's only one more day between me and a weekend of relaxation, possible retail therapy and a hair cut!

I just realised that here is where I start getting nervous. The worst LP I've had was 5 days, which is coming up tomorrow. The best was 8 (after EPU), I want to get to at least 12, but I also want AF to arrive ASAP so I can get started on our FET cycle. Such conflict!

Still pretty tired and headachey here - put my neck out badly. :(

well, i'm having a strange day - have started back on the provera double dose this morning, and all the AF type symptoms have pretty much gone - so, i guess i'm feeling better - but still very down that it's come to this point. i so wanted AF to arrive so that we could get started on this journey again, and she's just being a stubborn wench. will finish provera on Saturday night and she should show by Tuesday - no idea what happens if she decides not to show again though!!! eally hoping she shows up quickly - was hoping for a nice quiet night on tuesday night for my birthday - now i'm likely to be having nasty AF cramps from the provera, and feeling miserable for my birthday - not happy!

Jane - welcome, sorry about the OHSS.

I had my EPU today. I had been doing ok on a fairly low dose of GonalF. Had counted 14 follies and although some were a bit small, we got put off by one day to get them to catch up. I was very pleased to hear that the 'light IV sedation' would actually put me to sleep and I wouldn't feel a thing. DH and I had the impression from our clinic nurse that I would be awake-ish.
My 14 follies turned into eight, which was sad and disappointing a bit, as we had been thinking we were doing really well.

Don't read on if you are about to have your first EPU - I might put you off.

Then I woke up in recovery - and everything was ok - for about 30mins. Then the pain kicked in. Wow, I was in pain. As a chronic migraine sufferer and I have endo as well, I thought this was up there with those. (I often end up getting IV pain relief for the migraines). Anyway, the nurses kept asking me on a scale of 1-10 how bad it was. I kept saying 3 or 4. I mean I don't know what other people mean by unbearable, and I didn't want to be a hypochondriac. Eventually one nurse gave me a bit more time, and explained that if you are crying and doubled over in pain like me - it's generally about a 7. OK, so I was a 7 then! I had 5 doses of IV pain relief, and they eventually decided to admit me to a ward for the night. Well, I wasn't happy about that either, and so we gave it a time limit and I managed to sneak out with about 1 minute to spare!! Seriously - I never thought it would hurt that much. Who gets admitted overnight just for an EPU!?! :redface:

I'm much better now and i'm just off to bed. (my own one, thankfully and not a hospital one!)
Please send my little eggies good fertilisation vibes :fertilise:. I have a lot of my heart resting on them! And you guys have been doing wonders on the preggy tally lately!

ET scheduled for saturday at this stage all things going to plan.

I just wanted to pop in quickly tonight :) I have taken a step back the last couple of weeks. So much going on and just trying to come to terms with what we have been faced with. We sold our house last week and have to move in 4 weeks time, so there is a lot going on other than TTC for a change which I think has been a life saver. It's like I almost can't remember a time when our lives and my thoughts haven't been consumed by all things TTC. I needed some time out. We have another month before starting our next stim cycle, so I am chilling out some more before then. :)

BW, I hope you get your 12+ days LP this month!

Big hello to everyone else. Hope you are all well.

I've updated my journal, but in short I've had the u/s and we got DH's SA results today while visiting the GP. She said everything looks fine with DH, but he has some immature germ cells?? the result was 21 and the report says a reference range of <10/100.
She was happy that whatever showed up on my right ovary in my 2004 u/s, was still the same size, which means it's not a tumour!

Anyway, we now officially have our referral and only 5 weeks to go until our appointment.

Jo you poor thing! Your EPU sounds nasty. There was a girl in when I had mine in a similar state who had to be wheelchaired out to the car. Hope you recover quickly now you are home in your own bed, nothing is nicer when you feel cruddy. Fingers crossed for a good fert rate and transfer on Sat!

I understand about the bad neck. My chiro retired in Jan and I have been relying on massage since but she wont do me now till I reach 12 weeks and DH refuses to touch me either.

Jane, I have done ICSI and also ended up with OHSS but not till implantation took place. I was hoping BW could give a few ideas on how long I can expect to be blown up like a balloon??? Also, the ovary pain has mostly gone but now I have a terrible stitch in my front/left side near belly button and find it difficult to stand for any length of time...is that part of it? I had a scan to determine the OHSS and my ovaries were 250cc each (they are usually 15cc each!) BW can you help?

To everyone else... HI!!!

Not much new happening here - I have just honestly been feeling terrible since Monday (day 14 of my cycle and due to the cramping I had for 3 days, definately ovulated I'm sure)
Some cycles as soon as I o I just feel like hell, but this one has been worse than normal!
I called my acupuncturist for a little advice - I have put on almost 4kgs since Sunday???!!!! All fluid, I can feel it, and my jeans are just impossible to do up!
She was a little concerned (this was last night about 6pm) - got my address from me and 30mins later she called in to see me at home on her way home from the clinic!!!
When she got here, she took one look at me and told me to get my clothes off, she was going to her car for the needles and we were having a treatment right here, right now!!!
She had brought some different herbs with her, and told me to start taking them straight away and to call her today and tell her how I was.
Well, I lost about 1kg overnight (felt 300% better as soon as the needles were in!!!) and am feeling better today... still not fabulous though!!!
Anyway, I had to be the luckiest person on the earth last night for her to call in & do the treatment!!!

Jo, sounds like you had about as bad a time with EPU as me. I was asked to rate the pain between 1 and 5. I wanted to say 6. I really hope you don't get the OHSS that I did, I guess that's the good part of 8 eggs - it's unlikely! I'm a bit like you with wanting to avoid the hospital, I still think I should probably have gone in with my OHSS, but I refused simply because it would have meant leaving the house in my PJs (couldn't fit into any clothes) and that there would have been no computer and no BB in hospital! So I'd spend the night crying to DH about the pain and bloating, convince him I was fine the next morning and escape him carting me off to hospital yet again... Let's just keep hoping and praying for a super fertilisation rate.

Nic, I'm afraid I can't help with the SA results, but they sound like there are no major problems to overcome. I'm sure those 5 weeks will go super quick and you'll be at that appointment before you know it. Let's just hope those 5 weeks go super quick, as I'll then be about ready for transfer! It's scary when you think about it that way!

Megan, hope you have a fantastic time on your holiday.

Sazz, afraid I probably can't help much with the OHSS, they told me it would get better once AF arrived, but I didn't really start to feel better until AF had well and truly gone, and the fluid didn't really start to go until a few days after AF had started. I think that with being pregnant now, it's going to be pretty horrid for a while. A quick search reveals "OHSS always disappears in a few days unless a pregnancy occurs. In early pregnancy the problem may last weeks and require prolonged hospitalisation." :( Looks like it's bad news, I'm afraid. :hug:

BW - OMG, I didn't realise that you'll be ready to transfer around that time! At least I won't forget that date...I'm getting so forgetful lately. Yeah, we're pretty happy with our results. I'm just someone who is always hungry for information. If something is meant to be a level of say 5.5 and it's 5.6, then I want to know why it's not 5.5, if that makes any sense?
I use to be a huge stress head, and was dealing with it really well until the last 2 weeks or so. Funnily enough, I don't think it's from TTC, but more from not having enough information regarding TTC....and stupid family stuff ATM, LOL! That probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense.... I should probably go to bed!

Nic, don't feel bad, it's only recently with my O date confirmed that I've been able to estimate when transfer will be. Yesterday, in fact. Being 4DPO now, and transfer happening at 5DPO, and everything is shaping up for a 5 week cycle... I'm the same with the levels and things - I've had lots of discussions with doctors about my LFTs for that same reason.

They had said i had 14 follies at the ultrasound, but only got 8 eggs. :( I want to talk to the FS about this next time i see him. I really thought that most people had more. Do you know what i mean? I was growing all those follies and they were empty. Because we are doing ICSI, i wanted to have as many as possible, seeing as ICSI damages more than standard IVF. And you are so lucky that your acupuncturist is so dedicted. What a treasure!

I took a really low dose of GonalF (112.5). I have no weight gain (actually a 1-2kg loss) so i don't think i'll get OHSS. But i am keeping an eye on myself!! When i woke up this morning, i was in a bit of pain, but i was soooo pleased to be in my own bed. I am telling DH that i'm fine, but i'm nipping out for some more panadeine forte soon :shhh:

As for me, took my last Clomid tablet this morning :crossfingers:
My acupuncturist has also given me some herbs this month and after initial panic attacks about it I have started taking them.
It didn’t help that after I had my first dose yesterday afternoon; a friend at work came into my office and said I looked stoned.
It’s funny – if a GP, Gyno, etc gives me pills I will just take them, but when it is herbal I freak out.
We have booked all our preliminary IVF tests for the 15th of June, so if this cycle is a bust we will be having a couple of weeks before we need to do anything else.

well, i'm now waiting to finish the double dose of provera tomorrow night. so far, i'm feeling ok - all the cramping and major moodiness stopped yesterday after i took the second dose of tabs, and i'm guessing i'll be ok til i stop taking them again and the wait for AF begins. kinda worried about how i'll react - i'm so not a nice person and my poor DH cops it big time (he definitely took advantage of my good mood yesterday!)

I have just read your messages and I find you ladies so amazing my DH and I have been TTC for over 12 months and I have found that to be such a long and emotional battle, but to hear about some of you that have been trying for 8 or 10 years and still sounding so positive really is a reality check for me.
Congratulations to Sazz, I cant imagine waiting 10 years to get pregnant, you obviously really deserve every happiness.
I am currently waiting to see the fertility specialist to give me the all clear for a FET

BG - I'm jealous! Would love to do the tiger walk one day. I'm just hanging out for DD to be old enough so we can all go together. Hope to see some pics when you get back. :)

Not doing anything too special. I told DH that I don't want anything for my birthday (he got me an electrolux twin clean vac cleaner last month) but DD is insisting on it. We are going to my parents, so I've told DH that I want us all to go out to a golf driving range and play a bit of putt putt. Then go back to mum and dads for pizza.
