    Thumbs up EPU over

    Hi all,

Firstly welcome to the new people on the thread! Mrs Zeg I completely understand your feelings about starting your first IVF cycle, you're juggling so many mixed emotions! But there are many people here for support

Juniper: I'm afraid I'm the worst person in the world when it comes to taking syneryl. I have the alarms but because it makes me so vague, I'll do something like walk away to get a tissue then completely forget to come back and have the spray! My husband dobbed me in when he went to pick up some meds and they said they can tell from the blood tests whether you're taking it on time. I got a lecture after my next blood test! However as terrible as I've been with it it hasnt ruined by 2 cycles - luckily.

WAY TMI alert: Spring I share your prob with the pessaries. I thought they would be the easiest one out of all the meds but it wasn't! I had the itchiness and soreness not to mention discharge which I thought was thrush but was told by the nurses it was actually just the residue of the medication. The discharge became pinkish and internet searches revealed that this was normal for some people. However it later appeared to be blood which I thought was from major irritation, but as AF came shortly after it could have been the beginning of that. My tip would also be to insert them away from the urethra, as I found when I did this it reduced irritation slightly.

More TMI: Esperen and Juniper, thanks for your well wishes. My EPU was yesterday and it went well. I didn't have an anxiety attack this time which was great! I woke up distressed from the surgery and for some reason was emotional for a while afterwards so they got DH into recovery early which was nice. I was given extra painkillers this time but spent the afternoon being sick which didnt happen last time, so I expect it was the extra meds. Poor DH spent the afternoon cleaning up his car and other items that copped it

Just got interrupted with a call from the scientists. Of the 15 eggs collected 9 were mature, and 6 out of 9 fertilised. Last time I had 11 collected, 7 mature and 7/7 fertilised. My doctor had upped my meds as he wanted more eggs this time, but I actually have less fertilised. Last time we had one blastie suitable for transfer (BFN) but none that were suitable for freezing. Fingers crossed for this time because I think I need a decent break before I can manage to do a full IVF cycle again

Thinking of you all (I'm bad at the individual response thing because I keep losing the page when I go back to respond) and hope you're all being nice to yourselves.

Mrs Zeg, glad to hear the Doc could help you out with the bleeding. Pity she couldn't help with the other things, but I guess they can have vague days too?

Dusty, not sure if your post was referring to mine? To be honest it never occurred to me to use the word vagina - I didn't even think it - so I wasn't deliberately avoiding it. I was more focussed on the "urethra + supp wax coating = pain" aspect...

Esperan, no, I haven't been stressing the synarel timing this time. Last cycle my Dr didn't even care when I took it 3 hours late. He said that one dose per day would probably be enough. Not sure if I trust him on that, but I trust him enough to believe the timing isn't crucial. I just feel better if I stick to my 12 hour interval.

Miss K, hi and thanks for the welcome. I hope the next 2 weeks pass very quickly for you.

Loops, hi and good luck with your first IVF. I was terrified for my first one, but it was much better than I expected.

Misty, I had to laugh when you said you'd get the tissue and then forget. It's so like that, isn't it! I was sorry to read you were disappointed with your EPU/fertilisation results. I had a similar experience last time - IVF#1 we got 6 eggs, 3 embryos, 3 good embryos; IVF#2 increased the dose, got 6 eggs (again), 4 embryos, but only 2 good embryos. We're doing the higher dose again this time so I'm a bit worried but trying to trust my Dr's experience.

Spring, further to what has already been said, I always wash my hands before using the supps and would use a finger on the spare hand (ie the one not holding the supp) to cover the urethra - that way I couldn't accidentally make contact.

Anywho, halfway through my Puregon and have been feeling something going on in there since yesterday. B/t tomorrow and scan (and hopefully trigger) on Wednesday. I'm flying blind and trying to have faith that all will go to plan.

ps, if anyone has any tips on where to get Powerade/Gatorade in bulk I'd love to know. I got some mild OHSS last cycle and am hoping to minimise/avoid it this time by starting the extra fluids earlier.

Hi all. Just correcting my last post where I said "urethra'' but actually meant "cervix". 2 completely different things but I guess you get these things mixed up when we dont speak of them often!

    Unhappy

Hi Girls, .... Thanks for all good vibes but not too good news on my scan today... Went to the clinic this morning and at this stage I have 16 follies, which is a bit too many as per my FS's opinion, and puts me on great risk of OHSS... FS wanted to cancel my cycle... NOOOOOOOO! .
After a conversation FS gave me a chance until Monday for a second scan... changed my FSH to 125IU (instead the 150 IU)...
I'm very very upset and I don't know what to think about it...?????
If I have more follies by Monday it's definatelly cancelled . But if I have the same 16 follies it will be mine and DH's decision to go ahead or not.... What do we do????
and another thing... If we decide to continue the cycle, FS is going to freeze all fertilized embryos and not proceed with fresh transfer...

That old little question has been back in my mind: "why me????"
sorry no personals today... but I have all my heart and fingers crossed for you all!!

    Welcome Tiggerlinda!

Esperen I'm so sorry to hear your news. I dont have a great deal of experience in this area but I have heard of people h?ving more follies than you and have continued, in fact I thought my own were a very low numbers (10 large, 5 small). How are you feeling physically, well or unwell? Perhaps how your feeling after your next scan will decide if you proceed if you have the 16 follies still? And if you do go ahead and freeze dont worry because you will soon be able to do a frozen transfer and won't have all the IVF med hassles. I really feel for you lovely and am sending good vibes.

    Thanks Misty77!
I know... I've heard so many other cases of 30, 40 and 60 follicles...
    But is 16 too many??
I guess if FS is concern makes me think twice...

I'm feeling ok, but bloated and my tummy is bigger than normal... I'm trying to drink lots of water...

    Hi tiggerlinda,
FS said there's 3 big ones on my left ovary, most of them are average size and some small ones as well... I've been feeling very very bloated...
i didn't want to cancel the cycle but I've been reading about OHSS on internet and I'm getting worried...
hopefully the number of follies will not increase by Monday...

Esperan - Darling it's a case by case basis. I had 21 follies. I was told I might suffer from OHSS but they said I should be fine to proceed with a fresh cycle. At the time I was ecstatic, but soon realised that I wish they had cancelled the cycle. They pain I suffered with OHSS was nothing I would wish on anyone. I went from 72kg to 82kg in the space of 2 weeks, I put on about 30cm around the waist, I had fluid in my lungs, my follopian tubes, my kidneys, my stomach, my uterus and also fluid build up around my thighs (because I was bed ridden and it wasn't circulating properly). I was hospitalised twice and put on a drip. I can't tell you how scary it was. To top it off I then miscarried at 4 weeks. However this was not associated to the OHSS. OHSS does not cause miscarriage. I don't mean to scare you, but these things can happen. If they suggest you cancel your cycle it might be worth your while, even though it would be very upsetting at the time.

Mrs Zeg - Do you really park 1km from work? That's discipline for you! My work is 15 minutes drive. I told myself I'd ride the bike to and from when I first started there...that was nearly two years ago...the bike hasn't left the garage.

Miss K - Yeah, DH is pretty good sometimes. But other times Oh well, what can you do.

Misty - I hear you, after my last cycle I had 3 months off. No Bellybelly, FS, no nothing. You need it every now and then for your own sanity

    Tiggerlinda - Come on in!

JBM - Welcome back. I hope everything becomes together for you well before september. Look after yourself and make sure you get in a few massages for a bit of TLC to help you back on the right track.

Loops - Welcome back! Sounds like you've had a lot going on. Well hopefully this is a fresh start for you with good news to come your way this year

Baby2bee- I'm glad you are positive at the moment. I hope it stays that way and good things come your way soon

AFM - Silly me ate prawns for dinner tonight. Is there truth to the story that you should eat prawns when you are pregnant?

Esperan, sorry to hear you're at risk of being cancelled. Personally, I'd be thrilled with 16 follicles, but that's because I've only gotten 6 eggs both times (and of course fewer embryos) and I'd desperately love to get 10 or more! However, if your Dr thinks you're at risk of OHSS that's nothing to be trifled with (as Spring has described in such vivid detail - eek!). But even with just 6 eggs I had a mild case of OHSS last cycle. On the other hand I know people who had almost 30 eggs and were fine. Seems really random to me... I don't know if FSH dose comes into it? Mine is a lot higher than yours (325iu).

OMG, talk about the synarel making me vague - I only just remembered that I was supposed to go for a blood test at 7am this morning!!! Phew, just called and can still go before lunch. Just need DH to come pick me up (he has the car). I can't believe I forgot!

esperan: The thought of having to cancel a cycle must be really hard to take - I can't imagine how that would feel: all that work for 'nothing'. But - with the knowledge that the FS's have of your situation it's important that the right thing is done for you & your follies. I hope that things go ok for you between now & monday.

Spring: Your experience with OHSS sounds really scarey - it's the risk we take hey? Thank you for your candid explanation of what can happen - It's good for those of us preparing for first IVF cycles. I'm not sure just what to expect with my own situation - just praying to God things go relatively smoothly!
Yeah - 1km from work due to the fact that I refuse to pay for parking when I can park for free & fit in daily exercise too - It doesn't take me too long but I do need a good dose of deodorant once I get to work!!! I wish I had a bike!!

AFM: Bleeding has just about left the building: HOORAY! Poor DH is feeling a little randy! It's been a long 11 days!!!
I've been a little emotional over the last day or so - I'm really missing my friends & fam who live interstate & my Dad's health is really bad. I keep thinking bad thoughts like What if he's not here to see my Family grow . . . I know this kind of thinking is not healthy but when I get homesick, I get really homesick.
BTW - I discovered a great 'mood-lifter': dance around your loungeroom to your favourite song & (small) glass of wine!!!

    * Hope everyone else is well *

Just a quick one from me esperan you need to be very careful if you choose to go ahead and risk OHSS I put 30kg on over night I had 25 follicles on my first ever try of 75 which is the lowest dose I was in hospital for 2 weeks straight on oxygen and a drain everyday which would drain the fluid out an then it would build up again! BUT in saying that I did manage to fall pregnant which made it get worse we stopped BD'ing and we still had a whoopsie how'd that happen and how many babies are in my tummy but it ended in sadness at 10weeks due to loss of heartbeat though they said it was not caused by the OHSS... Just keep eating pleanty of red meats and cheese and drinking lots of poweraide and also those protein shakes which are sustagen I was being fed that everday in hospital so I know that stops and slows things down a tad and they were pumping me with protein so if you get a head start now why not give yourself some more chances! I hope for your sake that it doesn't affect you going through with this cycle sweetheart mwah!!!!

hey tiggerlinda how exciting that you are coming back for number 2! Have been following you for quite some time!!!

be back later for personals ladies xoxo

    Hello ladies

Tiggerlinda - I didn't realise you had a successful IVF pregnancy with your number one child. Congrats! It's nice to hear of success stories. It gives us all hope How old are they?

Junipar - Did you stock up on the powerade? What I did when I had OHSS is I bought a container of powered Gatorade. It's exactly the same thing, but you just need to mix the powder with water. It works out heaps cheaper and lasts longer.

Mrs Zeg - Go crazy with the BD'ing. Hopefully that will cheer you up!!!

AFM - I can't seem to keep my posts short! Sorry guys, but I can't help it! Well, its now 6 more sleeps to BT. I have no symptoms or anything to make me lean either way. I know it's too early to expect symptoms but it would be nice to feel atleast something. Do you reckon if I do a POAS on Monday it would give me a fair indication? My last booster was Wed and I am still using progesterone pessaries.

Miss K - Wow! 30kg gained during OHSS! I thought mine was bad! You poor thing! The things we go through

To everyone else, have a good weekend and best of luck to where you are all at in your cycles or preparations.
