Hi 21
Yes, I"m pretty sure you would need to pay for the urology consultation -as for price, first consults are usually around the $200 mark.
I'm not sure about Westmead, it's possible that someone here goes there and they can fill you in.....it sure sounds very reasonable.
Have you seen the prices in the USA? Unbelievable....can be up to $10,000 a cycle, and there are waiting lists etc.
WE are pretty lucky here I think, considering.
-
Hi neptune do you think its better to bypass a urologist and get a fertility specialist referral? I see your partner also has poor sperm, what does he have and what treatments did you go for? mine has 89 percent abnormal where 85 is the cut off point for "normal" he also had a volume of only 1.5mls where 2 or above is normal. Im really confused with what to do. He got blood work done a few days ago for hormone levels and thyroid function and will get results next week im thinking of waiting to see what they say before making a decisions. You ladies are much wiser then me an Im only starting my journey yet it already feels like forever :(
Has anyone's partner seen a urologist? was it helpful at all?

Hey all you lovely ladies,
I'm back - I've been having a BB break after my first IVF cycle ended in a BFN. But we have now got plans for putting our one and only frostie (a 5 dayer) back in December... : ) I'm doing a hormonal FET - I have to take tablets and injections to control my cycle and then crinone afterwards till 9 weeks (AND that stuff is expensive - $200 for 15 days! I said to my DH that we should after our families to give us crinone for Xmas!).
21 - I'd got straight to the FS if I were you... sorry I can't help much re the cost.
Big hugs to you all out there!
Ruth
-
Welcome back Ruth, all the best for your FET:pray:
21TTC#1 - I can't remember what the specifics of DH's sperm count was, but I remember when we were going through all of the testing and my GP had a bit of a discussion about seeing a urologist, that surgery may be able to help him, or we could jsut go straight to the IVF/ICSI path - do you know what ICSI is??? When there are sperm issues, they can use this method to deliberately inject a sperm into the egg (intra-cytoplasmic injection).
Personally, i would go straight to the FS, and he/she would know best.

Morning everyone
This isnt a happy post - Im sorry ..
I havent been on for a couple of days, have been away, and moved over to the TWW - which ended for me this morning - an almost black and clotty AF showed up this morning, so I didnt even get the chance to have my BT  -
I will see FS this week - have the BT as a formality, as we didnt get any frosties from 11 eggs - and the christmas closure - FS doesnt want to do another STIM cycle straight after the last one - we will be trying naturally till Jan next year -
Im going to think positive - I might even try a non stim cycle, as we have hit the safety net - hmmm I will speak to FS and see what she has to say .. Im thinking of starting accupuncture and chinese herbs as well, Im all over the place - trying to think of where we can go next ..
Sorry for no personals - I will read up and see where everyone is at, and post a more positive post soon x

Hi girls
Haven't been in all week so too much to catch up on for personals!
Had a real mixed week. had my first appt with my haematologist - paid $205 for 25 mins (and he was 50 min late) but he was actually really good. Given that I've already done lots of 'high risk' things (without realizing) he says the FVL should'nt be too much of a problem. I have to take Clexane during my FSH injections but apart from that he said he'd see me again when I'm "25 weeks pregnant" - that made me laugh because at this stage I can't even picture myself getting blasties let alone pg (I know, I should be more positive!).
Then saw our FS later that day, all set for the first IVF in Jan - I was like "What is the earliest day we can start in 2009?" - ha ha ha. Talk about keen!
Downside is that the clinic has increased their prices for everything by 10% - damn it!
Also had another pg announcement this week - one of DH's friend's wife, she smoked all through her first pg and has said this one wasn't planned. She's also a complete lazy slob who doesn't cook or clean, and takes drugs. Hmm gotta love how the universe decides who to give a baby too sometimes, don't you?
After all that I've had a nice relaxing weekend at least :) And we're only about 8 weeks away from IVF!

Hi everyone!
thanks again for all the responses, DP and I have decided to ask for a Fertility clinic referal as they do everything there as you guys already know! saves me seeing a gyno and him seeing a urologist, plus i am so so anxious!!! Im really worried about the cost of it all as we have a big car loan at the moment and the usual bills I also have a big university HECS debt and I cant imagine paying thousands of dollars upfront for ivf, I will find a way though. Im also nervous about it all, im starting to think is it really a higher success rate than trying naturally? Also I dont know whether to go for the cheap hospital clinic in Sydney or for the more expensive monash ivf here on the Gold coast! Ahhhhh im so confused and feel like a burden on you all for asking questions! I also cant find anyone else my age having to go through all this, not that age really matters but it would be cool. I also feel bad about not doing any personals for a while.
MRS P- Hi we havent met, Im lydia!
JBM- Hey there long time no talk! yeah he hasnt had one of those thankgod! his fluid volume is low so not much ejaculate and too many monster sperm so most likely will have to ICSI! does it hurt them? Also i see you have 3 boys already where they fathered by your husband? if so were they naturally concieved even though he has sperm problems too?
wouldloveabubba- Im so sorry for you, I HATE getting my period! i feel for you.
Neptune- yeah I researched it and it looks pretty successful, he only is 4 percent over the limit so he still has 11 percent normal sperm but its obviously not doing the trick so we will try iui then ivf.
-
Hi Everyone..
Just a quick hello to you all. Want to let you know I'm always thinking of you, snooping and wishing your BFP dreams come true so so so soon.
Big hugs Bel
-
Morning Sorry no personals ladies
Just a quick update after my BT on thursday and finally being able to get a hold of FS to let her know that I hadn't taken the trigger I get a call from the nurse on friday apparently my BT results show that I have ovulated, not sure as to when that happened as the test I had a week earlier said that I hadn't. So anyway also on friday AF showed up, so now we can start again with the injections and BT and hope that this cycle works better then the last one.
Sending out lots of good luck and sticky babydust to you all.
-
Would love a bub - so sorry for the BFN - I hope your next cycle brings you a BFP!
Hello and baby dust to everyone.
-
hi everyone...wishing you all well and reading your updates xx
afm- trying naturally this cycle...and I think I ovulated on the weekend...cycle a bit weird since the D&C...so I suppose I am in the TWW, but chances for us very slim...but hey, you never know!
-
Morning everyone.
A quick hello from me today before I leave for London. WIll try and pop in,but hopefully the trip will keep my mind of TTC this month:)
Hope everyone stays positive and has a great couple of weeks
-
babytruj, have a lovely trip and may it be a great escape for you
-
wouldloveabubba - i'm so sorry for you. the black clotting AF is exactly what i had last month. very strange and quite unpleasant. try to stay positive. no harm in trying a non-stim cycle before the year is out (espec if it won't be too expensive). i'm thinking of you
ruth - so happy you're back - i was also concerned that we hadn't heard from you for a while. a 5 day blastie sounds v positive though - so good luck for the dec fet
AFM - just a quickie post today as I'm trying to get all my work done before I head to the FS for my FET! Got a call yesterday to say that the thaw went well. I'm feeling really great and quite upbeat. I've got my fingers crossed that this is my month.
Thinking of all you girls.
Mels xx
-
hope the FET went well mel...fingers crossed!

Hello Everyone - hope you are all doing OK today.
Mels77 - hope the FET goes well for you, make sure that you rest up, sending lots of positive vibes your way.
Wouldluvabubba - I am so sorry that this happened to you - thinking of you and hoping and praying for a BFP for you next cycle. Take care of yourself.
Sending everyone lots of baby dust - thinking of you all.

Hi girls, haven't popped in for a while. There's so many of us in this thread at the moment.
Wishing Baby, hope you are feeling positive about your next cycle after being messed around on your last one. Frustrations aside, hopefully this one will be your last cycle and news will be +ve at the end of it all.
Babytruj, have a wonderful trip o/s.
Possums, great to see you are still trying while waiting for Jan to come around. It would be so nice to fall naturally and not need to go through a cycle next year at all. You are such a strong person to keep moving forward.
Hi Bel & Buliej. Hope you girls are enjoying your pregnancies so far and everything is going well for you both.
Mels77, best of luck for your FET today. Great to hear you are feeling really good. It must make a difference when our mindset is positive. Hope your tww flies by. :crossfingers:
Wouldloveabubba, sorry this month wasn't your month. AF is such a witch!! I know how you feel not getting to BT day. A little ripped off the tww wasn't two weeks... I too have trouble getting to BT day, AF always rears her ugly head. Hoping your FS appt goes well and you have some direction by the end of the week.
21, GL organising your referrals. I am going through Westmead Fertility Centre and they're great.
Mrs P, the next couple of months will go quickly thanks to Christmas in between! It's good to have a date to aim for, the next step in the journey...
JBM, GL for Wednesday. May you have a BFP for Christmas!!!
:hello: to all the other girls sniffing, jabbing or just waiting (the hardest of them all!!). Hope you're all doing well.
My BT is this Thursday for the start of a FET. I haven't done a FET before but feeling good.. Much less stressed than with the stim cycle in Sept.
Have a great week.

Hi girls I have yet another question! I have never had thrush before in my life but last night and the night before I have had a burning sensation in my vagina while having intercourse its not unbearable but not enjoyable either! i dont have any unusual discharge or itching or smell, is this thrush? is it a sign of pregnancy? im on CD22 of a 28 day cycle although it was 5 days late last month, first time ever! Also Is it worth trying IUI before ivf or dont u get a choice? my DP still has 11 percent good sperm out 47 million, would IUI benefit us? Also I had a peak in the younger couples TTC and parenting, and like I though NOT ONE of them has been LTTTC most of them were due within the month! its too hard to be the only one there and see all the ultrasound pics so im staying put, plus they have NO IDEA what we go through so have to explain everything and its too much effort! I FEEL MUCH MUCH older than I really am at the moment.
-
i am having probs at the moment doing personals. was doing a nice long one then just did something wrong. it's not my day for computer ?
anyway hi to all
afm: got FET on wed morning. and counting down 2 more sleeps then that horrible tww.

Im so sorry I havent posted any personal replies - I do read everyone's posts x
I just rang FS and I may be able to do another stim cycle this month - starting today - has anyone had any luck back to back with stim cycle's, ???? or should we BD naturally with booster puregon injections each day to help ovulation, we have fallen preg naturally before - ohhh im not sure..
I need to make the decision today .. please let me know your thoughts and experiences
-
wouldloveabubba- I'm not sure- I haven't any personal experience with back to back stim cycles to share with you. How do you feel...do you feel up for another full cycle? Perhaps that would give you a better chance of a BFP
-

buliej- have replied in my other thread and want to say again I am so so sorry and my heart breaks for you having to experience this....I really know how hard it is
-
Possums - Hello, nice to hear from you, x
Im not sure .. I know I desperately want that BFP - would a stim cycle give us more of a chance, or would the puregon help things along naturally - I cant get hold of hubbie ... I am waiting on hold at the clinic - for some answers
-
Buliej - my girl, i'm just devastated for you right now. i was just catching up on the thread since my post yesterday. i am so truly sorry for you. i'm thinking of you and i'm desparately sorry for your loss. please take care.
all other girls, thanks so much for your well wishes for my FET yesterday. it went well and i had a nice relaxo afternoon at home yesterday. unfort I learnt that they had to thaw a second embie yesterday morning because our first didn't make it through the night. oh well, at least there was time to thaw another (which apparently looks quite healthy). fingers crossed for this TWW.
thinking of you girls.

Hi Ladies
Buliej: So sorry to hear about your loss. We are all thinking of you and sending you lots of best wishes
AFM: Finally the scan today showed the lining has increased to 9mm, so FET all booked in for Friday. A week later than I expected, but at least we got there in the end. We are having 2 more day 3's transferred so hopefully all goes well this time around and the 2 they thaw survive (although we will still have 5 spare day 3's). So this means the BT will be on Thursday 27th. Hopefully this one works as if not, we probably won't get another chance before Xmas. So I need lots of sticky vibes from everyone for Friday.
Everyone else, I'm watching where you all are at, just over 6 weeks to Xmas so we need lots of BFP's to make everyone's Xmas special.
-
Thank you everyone for your kind words.
I hope things go really well for everyone - I cry at everything now and would love to have good news put tears in my eyes!
-
Buliej :comfort::comfort: you take care, and cry your eyes out if you need to. It is sad, and unfair, and all those things that suck. We are all thinking of you and hoping you find your way again soon.
KellyD - :goodluck: for Friday, how exciting!
Mels77 - glad FET went well, rest up and :goodluck: for your TWW
Possums - nice to see you, keep up the natural cycle!
Ontra_k - How are you doing?
Smithy - you must be getting close to your BT, take care :goodluck:
Mrs P, 21TTC, JayD - hello to you!
JBM - All the best for your transfer tomorrow!!!!
KaYdee - good luck with FET cycle
To anyone I have forgotten, good luck wherever you may be in your TTC journey, and let's make this thread a record for BFP's by Christmas!
AFM: Still waiting for AF, on day 28 now, and have no idea when I am due due to very strange temps etc this cycle. I have the puregon ready to go on day 2 of cycle, but have to be patient. I don't think I could be BFP this month due to the BT I had last week when they told me that I was about to get AF (E2 was 180 and PG was 15) so now I am just confused (which is not hard frankly). I am spotting ever so slightly, so I"m sure she will rear her ugly head tomorrow or something.
-
hey everyone...glad your cycles are moving forward  those BFPs start coming for us soon
buliej- cry away... I have cried many many tears in the last few weeks, often at odd times- you have to get it out and move through the raw grief
-
