Long-term TTC & Assisted Conception - Oct/Nov 2009

Hi ladies,
I hope everyone is well. This is an epic post, I have only been away from BB for two days and there is so much to catch up on. I apologise in advance to anyone I have missed.


Emerald- I do agree with you to a point, but the thing is I really was a b**** on Saturday. DH was trying to everything he could to help me feel better and I was just lashing out. Yes I do think they should suck it up and accept it, which he did, I just felt bad the next day.:redface:

Motherhood- I hope you get a good blood test result, you really do have a lot to deal with. I hope you have a supportive FS who is helping you through this decision making. Maybe you should talk to the counselor, I am thinking about it and I don?t have anywhere near the amount of stress that you have to deal with. I am thinking about you today. I pray that you get some good numbers!:pray:

Sounds like your feeling a bit more positive which is great, OMG I can?t believe how much it is costing you.

Airline- I hope you don?t have any more lasting affects from your EPU, I am glad that the ET went well.:stickyvibesgirl:


Nix- I feel exactly the same way which is why I decided to do another transfer this year. I look at some of my friends who I went to school with and their kids are already 4-5 years old, some are even 10! I really didn?t want to leave it this late either. Thanks for writing about what your nurse said, it is good to remind ourselves that the chances of falling pregnant each cycle is low, which ever process you are taking.

I think PGD costs an extra 4000 dollars at MIVF, I remember reading it in the accounts pamphlet.

Loops- Sounds very promising! Maybe you should just go to your doctor and get a blood test.

Bonny- Great news about your follies! I am sure your FS wuld have said something more if he thought you were in danger of ovulating.

MrsP- Welcome back, I look forward to getting to know you. What a funny story. Can I ask what the HRT stands for?

AFM- I am still waiting for AF to show up. I am not sure what is going on. I had some spotting last Tuesday and Wednesday, they doubled my crinone and I stopped bleeding. I had my last crinone on Thursday night, blood test on Friday which was negative. Surely AF should be here if the only thing that was stopping AF was the crinone!

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get AF after a negative BT? The nurse said if it hadn?t arrived by Thursday to call.

I think it varies person to person - but my nurse explained to me after my last natural FET - you shoudl get AF about 14 - 16 days after ovulation day. I learnt that ....you know how we all have different cycle lengths - well it only varies in days before ovulation. i.e. if you are a regular 28 day girl and I am a 34 day girl - we both will still get our AF 14 - 16 days after ovulation day. It's only the days up to O that vary. Sorry about your neg result. Not sure that I had read that but I guess I must have.

Airline glad things went well. You guys need to look after yourselves - you don't want to get sick now.

MrsP, I was told by the nurses at my clinic that I could take mine either way. And apparently there's one Dr at my clinic who tells his patients to take them anally. If it helps, supposedly you get less mess that way? But I can't bring myself to try it... :redface:

Hi sonyalouise - HRT is hormone replacement therapy, which means because I don't have a normal cycle or ovulate normally, I take hormones from CD2 until transfer and then beyond.... this is my first HRT FET so I'm not looking forward to the pessaries at all! I get AF about 3-4 days after a negative BT.

Nix76 - nice to meet you too!

Juniper76 - yeah the chemist mentioned less mess that way, but honestly I don't know if I could try it either. TMI but how much mess can I expect? I have to take 3 x a day so that includes at work - still need to work out a secret "container" to store them in in the work fridge, eeek... bit nervous about the whoel thing and I think I'd actually rather be injecting myself with something! Silly I know....

It's been a while since my last post (sounds like I'm at confession!) I have been trying to keep up with everyone but it is very difficult as so much is happening.

I have cancelled my next full stim cycle (supposed to start this week) as I am not really in a great place ATM (personally and workwise) so have decided to rethink my situation.

In any case, Motherhood here I come, I notice that you are in Campbelltown. Have you considered Westmead IVF? It may be a little more travel, but for a full stim cycle, I was only out of pocket approx $500 and approx $180 for a medicated FET cycle (although I paid for the estrogen tablets at about $120 for the full cycle (mine was a double dose). I know that changing clinics may present a challenge, but it would definately allow you more attempts. (It can't hurt to get an information pack from them to compare costs)
I found them to be very organised and had a really good system. They have also taken on a new senior embryologist who is from the UK and has implemented a few changes in regard to the embryo side of things.

To everyone else, I hope you are travelling OK in your journey and that you reach your dream sooner rather than later. Keep your spirits up and take care of yourselves. Thank you for your support over the last few months or so, it has been immeasurable!

Hi to everyone else and thanks so much for your support. I still have no AF and havent POAS yet because im too scared, im dreading seeing no second line once again and so Ive been procrastinating about whether to do one or not all morning. I just don't want to feel miserable and upset for the rest of my day off if its BFN. Im sure you can all understand too - arrhh.

Afternoon all,

Just a quick one to vent my frustration at still waiting for my BT results from this morning. My stomach is doing somersaults with what the results might possibly be and where it leaves us with cycle number 2. I know that I need to wait, its just hard and this isnt even the 2ww for me lol.

Tantee, thanks for the advice. With the other posts on here re my costs the thought has crossed my mind however then I remember that SIVF has already developed the test for our little embys (when we get them) to see if they have DH's genetic condition. Will have a look into it though because you never know. Do they do PGD there by chance????

Well back to waiting for the results and the answers to my questions I armed the nurse with yesterday for when she speaks to FS today!!!!

Afternoon Ladies,

Well here we go. Just got the call from my nurse.

FS is happy with the results from todays BT as it shows im finally responding to the 450 Puregon YAY! Nurse told me that my estrogen level at todays BT was 1195. Previously at Sats BT it was 360 and before that it was at 143. Need to keep going with the 450 Puregon and then back in for a BT and US on Thurs morning. Let the nurse know too that I have been feeling a little achy and period pain type feeling the past couple days or so and hoped that it was a good thing. She confirmed that yeah, it is a good thing. With my estrogen levels, we now just need them to keep going up and up.

I cant describe how happy Im feeling now and I feel as if a weight has lifted off my shoulders however as I have just told DH, I cant let myself get too excited, need to calm down and see what happens and go with the flow.

Nurse also let me know that she discussed with the FS what steps we can take to get around the slow response. His response was that in possible future Stim cycles we would start with the Puregon first and then bring in the Lucrin. Obviously I dont need too much surpressing. Oh well we will see hey.

Am so happy now. Bring on Thurs and Body/uterus, you are to be on your best behaviour all the way right to the end with our BFP (Wishful thinking)

1195 for an Estrogen reading on Day 11 of Puregon Injections is good isnt it???

Motherhood here i come - great news1!! i'm so happy to see things turn around for you and by your tone i can tell its brought a huge smile and lots of relief to you.....:D
As for the Estrogen levels, i have no idea as i never get told figures, just whether the levels are good or bad. Hopefully with the signs of your estrogen levels you will have some fabulous results with your ultrasound. You are finally on your way and i am really really happy for you!! :hug:

AFM- ET today, one 3 day 7cells embie and they are going to freeze the other which was a 6 cell (well they said they were leaving it till lunchtime to see what it did, I havnt rung)

sonya - my first cycle, AF took her bleedin' sweet time, so they put me on the pill to induce it. I asked for that the second cycle to ensure min. time between cycles. how you travelling?

motherhood - those no.s are great in my minimum experience. my no.s were low and I remember they suddenly improved from one BT to another.

afm - I'm doing ok, DH still got 'man cold' so trying to protect myself from that. sadly none of our other embies made it to freeze. so it's all down to the splodge inside of me

Airline - sorry to hear you didn't get any to freeze - nevermind its time to focus on you and taking it easy for the next couple of weeks minimum

Motherhood - I don't know about numbers but its sounds good that things are on the increase. My fingers and toes are all crossed for you

Just a quick question for you all. I understand that I need time off after and on the day of EPU but what about ET. Any suggestions? Was told initially by the clinic that some women go in their lunch breaks etc! What are your thoughts. Should I take time off after ET depending on what day it takes place i suppose?

Motherhood here i come - My transfer was on a Saturday and I chose to take leave on Mon and Tues this time round (I work M-F). I really recommend it as I have been allot more relaxed this time and now only have 2 1/2 days till weekend - yay! I think it is really personal preference though, as you could easily go back to work after a transfer...

Hi Ladies. I've been away from the Forums since my first IVF cycle negative....needed to rest the brain for a while. Have since done my second ET (frozen) on a HRT cycle and this didn't work either. This Sunday I'm up for number 3.......while I can handle it mentally, physically, emotionally etc etc etc we are going to just keep pushing on through. This cycle i'm feeling pretty good. For the first time on my first blood test (day 12) my oestrogen was at 1200!! Normally at day 18 my 'o' is only at 800 so I'm feeling a bit more positive than normal.

Enough about me though. I'll catch up with everyone's stories now that I'm back on the forums. Good Luck to ALL!!!!!!!!!

Baby2bee - Looks like you and I have similar Estrogen levels. I just had my BT yesterday (Day 11) and my levels were at 1195. Am glad your feeling more positive. FX for you!!!!

Motherhood when is your transfer planned....I'm on a different cycle to yourself but hopefully we can share this cycle together!

Baby2bee - Not sure on a date yet. Am scheduled to have an US and BT first thing tomorrow so am hoping that I find out tomorrow. Will be sure to post when it is as soon as I know. Just hoping that everything is still going in the right direction. Things cant go backwards can it????

AFM ~ Im afraid the POAS result yesterday was BFN, but AF is still not here WTF! Then I spoke to the nurse and she said I would need the money given in within the next couple of weeks for IVF in Dec if we wanted to do it and its gone up too. We just can't really afford it, so we are waiting until Feb now:crying: I was ok yesterday but this morning I broke down. DH was really good and gave me good cuddle. Im usually pretty strong but Im starting to lose it now - can't take much more heatache.
Sorry about the negtivity.

Loops12 - Oh babe, I am so sorry about you BFN and sorry to hear you won't be able to do another cycle till FEB.....i really really :pray: that you get your BFP naturally before then....so sorry hun, i can just imagine how you must feel and I just can't find those comforting words that would make it all better, but i will give you a great big :hug:
and will keep you in my prayers and wishes...please keep us posted.

Oh Loops, I'm so sorry to hear that. February seems a lifetime away at the moment. I know it's cold comfort but maybe you will be able to enjoy the festive season and who knows, a couple of drinks at a party plus a bit of loving might just do the trick! Take care of yourself and allow yourself to mourn this setback and I bet before you know it you'll be feeling a little bit like your old self again.

Motherhood - I've never changed schedule after ET except ensure day off on the day for first 2 cycles, but this cycle I'm off for a few days after. The concept was explained to me that anything that is aerobic will take away blood supply and concentration on what's happening in the uterus. So....if you're off, relaxing (not using time to do housework etc) then you're allowing body to look after one of the most important activities going on in there! :D

Loops - don't apologise for the -tivity...it's totally understandable. hugs, and thinking of you (I mean that)

Baby2bee - welcome back..even though I know there are other forums you'd rather be on...wouldn't we all!? :rolleyes:;)

Coral - 'what's occurring?' (sorry I'm a "Gavin & Stacy" fan) your transfer was Sat...mine Mon. How you feeling? I should probably go check in 2ww:doh:

AFM - Poor DH still ill, but we've been playing cards, watching tv, talking (only a little about TTC for a change).

Airline and motherhood - i take the whole week off after each transfer! In saying that my work is fully aware of the 'situation and very supportive! Im very lucky!

Loops - im so sorry for the bfn! Fingers crossed for the natural cycle! Take the time to relax and enjoy the xmas period!!

Motherhood, I always plan it so that I take 2 days off (each) for ER and for ET. For most of my cycles they have both been in the same week so I've just taken the whole week off, which is nice! At my first ET my FS asked me if I was going back to work afterwards and I laughed at him!! As if I'd get any work done anyway! Also, that E2 level is similar to what mine was just over halfway through stimming last time, so it sounds like you're starting to get some action going on in there!

Loops, I'm so sorry to hear about your BFN. And having to delay your cycle on top of that! :hug: FWIW, I'm 5 months into a 6 month wait between IVF's and it has been nice to have a "normal" life for a while. I also started acupuncture to try to help IVF#4 along (my acu wanted me to do 4 months of treatments before our next IVF to get the full benefit). I know it's probably not the same for you (between #1 and #2 instead of #3 and #4), but when all seems bleak it's worth being reminded that there can be silver linings. Sorry if that sounds a bit glib. I'm not trying to trivialise your disappointment - I know the feeling too well to do that.

Afm, after spotting all day yesterday (unusual for me, but at least that gave me a 12 day LP instead of 11 :rolleyes:), AF arrived in full force at lunchtime today, so I'm officially into my last cycle of waiting for IVF#4. I need to get in touch with my FS to confirm we will change to the antagonist protocol as discussed previously and then it's just a countdown to the end of November!

And in the meantime I get to countdown to our new oven being delivered on Friday and then countdown to the oven being installed a week later! :dance: We got slightly singed (not quite "burned" as there were others far worse off than us) by the whole Kleenmaid fiasco (we have a Kleenmaid oven that stopped working just before they went bust) and have finally gotten around to getting a new oven after more than 6 months without one! And as an extra special treat we're getting a dishwasher too! I've never been so excited about kitchen appliances!! I'm considering the appliances a reward for waiting longer than I wanted to for our next cycle, since the extra waiting was what made it possible to afford them.

Its been a while since I've been here but have to admit Bellybelly helped me enormously when going through IVF previously. Which was successful and I now have a beautiful 10 month old daughter.

Time to do it again! I'm part way through a medicated FET cycle. I started progesterone pessaries today and will have my transfer on Monday. Fingers crossed!

Loops - sorry about your BFN hun. Keep hanging in there, we're all here for you. I had a couple of months off after my last cycle and although the wait killed me at first, it was nice to have a break both physically and mentally. Keep your spirits up through xmas.

B2B - welcome back - similar to you I tend to disappear from BB after my BFN! I'm back for my first HRT FET so I'd love to hear from you how yours went - the whole pessary thing has me a little scared. How did you manage it while at work??

MHIC - I take at least the day of transfer off, if not also the day after. For me it's more of a mental thing, so that I know that I'm doing all I can to help it work. But to be honest I'm not sure it makes that much difference. For EPU I take a few days to recover as generally it's pretty uncomfortable for me afterwards.

Must dash to do some work now - sigh!

Afternoon all - Hope everyone is doing well with where their currently at.

Just a quick update for you all on where Im at and my results today.

AFM - So had my BT this morning and another US (2nd US for this cycle). The results are in......... E2 level of 2144 (Tues just gone was 1195) have approx 6 follicles on the go at the moment with the largest being 16mm and the smallest 10mm. Not forgetting the other smaller ones, there was approx 15 in total but only 6 are within ball park for the EPU. Still going with the FSH and Lucrin and have to head back in for an US and BT again Sat morning. Heres hoping that we find out some dates then for EPU cause Im getting anxious now.

Is it ok to get slightly excited now??? Looks like this one will happen for real :)

AFM- nothing to report really, trying to keep busy through my TWW. Feeling super positive tho

Mrs P - the first two cycles I would take the pessary normally and lie down for half an hour. I am lucky enough that work knows everything and every lunch, the receptionist would actually remind me to take it!!! HOWEVER I have been pretty busy lately and this hasn't been so easy......So are you ready for the gross part and I apologise for the TMI.......but sometimes if I don't have the time, I put it up in the never never region!! My nurse suggested it this cycle because you don't have to lie down after and apparantely it's better up there anyway. I have got to say I was pretty scared first time around.....it's never going to be pleasent but trust me it works!!!! Have I completely scared you now??? Doing a HRT FET cycle is the easiest thing I have done to date!!! And I think that's part of the reason I can keep going back to back each cycle! Chat to me anytime.....more than happy to share the experience!!

AFM - went to cinema with friend to take mind of 2WW. WARNING!!!!

the film 'Couples Retreat' features a storyline about Infertility!!!!!!! I'd only just told my friend as we walked in that the childrens animation UP! had made me cry and had reference to infertility...and then this!! the film is ok, too long, and I'm in an ok place...but FOR GODSAKE!!! it's EVERYWHERE!!!

MrsP - something to ask your Dr is if the three doses need to be exactly evenly spaced? I did 3 crinone/day for my last IVF and my Dr wasn't worried about evenly spacing them out (probably because we had only done 2/day previously so the third was an "extra"). I did my first before leaving for work, my second as soon as I got home from work and my third just before bed. I think they usually ended up being about 6am, 4-5pm (I usually work 7.30-3.30ish), and 9-10pm. Seemed to work just fine, but I'm not sure if the timing would be more important for the pessaries?

Juniper and Mrs P - I was told they had to be pretty much the same time each day.........HOWEVER every clinic in Australia seems to have different thoughts on everything so it's probably best to call yours.

Well hi everyone, long time no see. Have needed the break and will go for one last try this year for a FET. Have three little frosty bubs and heres praying that some will survive the thaw this time round. How is everyone else going. Lots of new faces. I will try and have a read over the next couple of days and familiarise myself.

B2B, my FS seems to be pretty relaxed about timing of doses for most things (the obvious exception is the trigger shot!). Even with the synarel he wasn't worried about me taking it 3 hours late. But he's very specific about other things (eg he wants pregnyl administered IM instead of subQ so I always have to ask the nurses for different needles). I'm the sort of pedantic perfectionist that assumes everything has to be timed exactly, so I only deviate from that when I have specifically been told that it's okay. And even then I need to know how much latitude there is.
