Long-term TTC & Assisted Conception - Oct/Nov 2009

Hi girls,

I haven't checked in with BB for a couple of days so I am a bit behind. I will catch up with everyone this evening after work. For the moment this is just an update on how I am going.

AF still hasn't arrived, it is now 22 days past the EPU (which in a normal cyle would be ovulation I think) and 20 days past the ET. I am going in for a blood test this morning to find out what is going on. I know I am not pregnant as I POAS yesterday and it was negative. So I really don't know what is happening and the nurse seemed quite confused. I am still cramping a little and have slight nausea, not as much when I was on Crinone though.

It is all so strange, has this happened to anyone else. Airline mentioned taking a pill to bring on AF, but the nurse said in my case in probably won't work because she thinks my progestrone hasn't dropped. Apparently the pill is designed to raise progestrone levels so they drop when you stop taking it. I don't really understand.:confused:

sonyalouise, I hope they can work out why AF is MIA. The only thing I can think of that can do that is I think cysts might sometimes cause AF to stay away? But I'm not sure if I've got that right? (ps, yes, you're right to count EPU as O day)

airline, thanks for the heads up about the movie. I completely missed that yesterday (probably due to lack of sleep). I balled my eyes out during UP so that sounds like a good one to watch at home instead of in public. :redface:

Afm, they screwed up our oven delivery date so it's coming tomorrow now. :( I know it doesn't really matter since it's not being installed until next Friday, but I'm still ****ed off! :angry: Maybe it's just because AF is so painful this time (kept me awake literally all night on Wednesday night and is still bad today)? Hopefully the worst will be over after today since the pain doesn't usually last past CD3. I'm hoping it's just worse than usual because last cycle was my m/c cycle and my hormones were out of kilter or something? I did have weird things go on all cycle... :dunno:

Just a quick one again sorry because Im at work and its the start of the long weekend basically so working for an Info Centre its pretty busy and only going to get busier. Im just on lunch break.

Thanks so much for all your lovely sentiments and support. I could certainly not get through all of this without you all - you are the best!!! The worst part is over, Im positive again because I believe that with Christmas etc that it might come around pretty quick and yes it will certainly give my body and stress levels a rest. Im happy with my decision I think as hard as it is.
It my 30th birthday in Feb - so hopefully I will get an amazing present.

Motherhood ~ so happy things are looking up. Def get excited!

Airline ~ Ive seen couples retreat - it was a bit daunting hearing the infertility stuff but I quite enjoyed the movie. Not as funny as Id thought it would be though.

Juniper ~ All the best with your next cycle.

Sonyalouise ~ so sorry your system seems to be a bit mixed up. I hope that little one is just taking a bit longer to stick. There may still be hope, FX

Hi girls

I have decided to be brave and come in and introduce myself rather than just lurking. Sorry in advance for the long post.

DH and I have been ttc since May 08, having started seeing specialists (first gynie, endo and now FS) in Oct 08. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2003, but not even thinking about ttc then was just on ocp to give me regular cycles. So in Oct 08 gynie started me on metformin which did nothing at all (have stopped taking it now) and tried the "wait and see method". I got fed up with that after a while and we decided to get checked out by an endo (my naturopath had some concerns re: thyroid) who wasn't concerned that I had thyroid antibodies. I started seeing a FS (Hollywood in Perth) who put me on ocp again for a cycle to bring on af and started me on clomid. I have done 3 cycles of clomid so far, first - 50mg x 5 days (twice), one follie, BFN, second - 50mg x 5 days (twice), no response, cancelled, third - 100mg x 5 days (twice), no response, cancelled. The new plan is for me to take provera to bring on af then go on ocp for 21 days and then start on FSH injections for ovulation induction. I have been told by the nurse that given my history I will probably be hard to control even on FSH and will likely either get no response or too many follies (they won't proceed with a cycle if more than two) so has said that the next step may be an IVF cycle if FSH proves to be hard to get the dose right. So that's where I am.

OMG Mrs P - I can totally relate to your cycle atm.

I am on Day 13 of my first HRT FET. Which means im taking progynova increasing in dose as the cycle goes along and then yes, the pressaries....yewwwwwwwwwww i'm dreading them really. I have to start taking them morning and night a couple of days before transfer day and then increase to 3 times a day on DAY 19.

My clinic advised me that i have to lie down on my back for 30mins after insertion (vaginally) which means a trip home from work at lunch time on DAY 19. How inconvenient!

From DAY 20 which is transfer day, I just take the crinone gel which is super easy and no fuss and i keep up the progynova as well.

Is Progynova the drug that you are taking? Had any side effects? It feels like a walk in the park to me, and i was so worried about it too when i was first told by my FS that he wanted me to do a medicated cycle rather than a natural one.

Looking forward to the transfer next Friday, but know i will be treating myself as highly breakable once its in. Not looking forward to the down time either if its not successful.

So, results are in. Made me wait a while today although, they were quite busy this morning at the clinic so it was to be expected I suppose.

So, estrogen was in the area of the low 2000's on Thurs and today it has doubled again so were in the 4000 range yay!!!! Largest Follicle was approx 22mm and then the range of the others was 19mm, 18mm, 15mm, 14mm and so on. Here is the good news, will trigger tomorrow evening for EPU on Tues at 7.30am!!!!

OMG it is actually happening I cant believe it. The Nurse told me to continue this evening as normal and she will call me tomorrow with all the definate details for my trigger etc. Hmmmm at least I will get to go to work on Monday and get it all sorted lol.

So after hanging up, I literally burst into tears after I got off the phone with her. I think it was my way of releasing all these hormones etc and in a way, breathing a sigh of relief. I know the EPU doesnt guarantee anything but it feels so much better than cancelling it all together like last time. Hmmmmm getting tears in my eyes now typing this.

Just now need to that more of my little ones catch up and just play the wait and see approach on Tuesday hey. FX for sure though. Wow, still hasnt sunk in I dont think.

Well best get back to it. Since we came home this morning have been cleaning the house bit by bit and taking my time. Now at least I know I will be able to relax after EPU without looking at a filthy house

I hope you are enjoying the weekend. It is quite muggy and hot in Melbourne at the moment. It is nice to see the sunshine though.

Juniper- I hope AF has calmed down and your oven has arrived safe and well. DH and I also went out and purchased some things, justifying the expense because I will now be working for longer then expected. The things we do to cope. :lol:

Baby2bee- I hope things go well for you on Sunday, third time lucky!

Airline- Thanks for the warning about couples retreat. Will definitely leave that one for DVD. Only five days to go.

Motherhood- Fabulous news! I am praying that your follies continue growing right up to the very last second! Have fun cleaning, I did the same thing in the lead up to my epu. It is so much easier to relax when everything is nice and clean.

Mellybelly- Welcome to the thread, it sounds like you have been through a lot before getting to this point. I hope the FSH works for you.

Mummawannabe- These medicated cycles sound like they are not very comfortable at all! The nurse mentioned I may have to go on a medicated cycle also. How did they decide to put you on a medicated cycle instead of a natural?

Lise- Good to hear from you, I was thinking about you also. I hope you are well and not experiencing too many of the first trimester side effects.

Emerald- I hope you are well, it can?t be long now until you start your cycle.

AFM I had the blood test yesterday, all hormone levels were normal, no pregnancy. They are not sure why I haven?t had AF and my FS wants me to wait another two weeks to see if AF arrives. If AF hasn?t arrived in that time then they will look at giving medication to bring it on. Aghhhh more waiting, so much for having another transfer straight away. It looks like it will be another month before it happens. I had acupuncture and I am now on some herbs that will hopefully speed the process up.

Sonyalouise - thanks for thinking of me.....yes November is but a day away, however I still have to wait for AF to arrive sometime between the 9th and 15th...these days you just cant count on her to arrive on time. :D I have an FS appointment on the 9th and also pick up my meds...sooooooo looking forward to the jabbing, BT's, ultrasounds and the dreaded to week wait should we get that far!!! Hopefully third times a charm!! :pray:

Sonyalouise: My FS decided to put me on a medicated cycle as my history of cycles were not really normal since i came off the pill about 3 yrs ago. I was really dissappointed when he first told me, but quickley got more relaxed about it because it is so much more controlled and it ensures that all your hormone levels etc are what they should be rather than leaving up to my infertile body and whether or not it wants/can do it that cycle. I haven't had any side effects to date, and i took my first pessary this morning....so far so good.
Transfer in 5 days....

Motherhood - GL for your EPU on Tuesday, :crossfingers: for lots of good mature eggs.

Airline - GL for your BT on Thursday :noaf:

Juniper - Don't you know no reno's while undergoing ART, LOlL, I think it keeps us pre occupied.

Melly Belly - Welcome. Everyone here is great and there lots of support, and you will never feel silly for asking quesyions.

AFM: AF is finishing up. This month was weird. I usually get AF around the 5/6 of the month and did in Oct, but also got it again last week. Far be it for me to ask why my body did this, just book on and hope these frostie bubs are stronger than the last ones. I think the nurse thought I was heartless when she called me, she asked if we will be putting 2 back. I said lets just see if they thaw first. Does that sound mean? I just know how bad we felt last time, 1 1/2 drive and 5 minutes away they called to say no thaws, we then turned around and drove home, it was the longest drive home ever I think. Anf my poor DH was heart broken.I want to be positive but want to be realistic too. But I know as the time gets closer I will get excited anyway. :think:

Well ladies just a quick one.

Just did my trigger injection and compared to last time when we had to cancel our cycle, this trigger didnt hurt at all!!! Hope I did it right. Although, It hurt a little to start and then I slowed down how fast I was pushing it in and then the pain stopped.

Have to be at the clinic at 6.45am Tuesday morning. FX hey :).

AFM- I am half way through the TWW, so far so good. Only just now starting to get only ever so slightly obsessed lol. Been worrying about job interview I had on Friday- which btw I got the job:dance:but that has definitly kept my mind off the TWW somewhat.

Hi All. Junior 3 is on board!!! yeeehhhaaaaa!!! We transferred a 5 day blasty that defrosted beautifully which had expanded to fill, and then was expanding again to start bulging at the sides (which apparantely is a great thing although my other two have also done the same). I really don't get all this too much....as long as it's doing the right thing!!!! I've got the week off work so it's relaxation for me now!!! GL to everyone else!! I'll see you in the tww (although i'll still be floating around here as well to see how everyone is doing).

B2B - thanks for the insight! I had heard of the alternative location ha ha. For me a 30 min lie down is not an option while I?m at work. I work in an office but only a few key people know about my IVF. The only place I could go is to disappear to the disabled toilet for 30 mins and lie on the floor!! This could be awkward. I think once I get started with the pessaries though I will get over my fears! Now go and put your feet up and enjoy your week off with Junior 3 on board!!

J76 - good question! I will definitely ask if they have to be evenly spaced. I usually leave home at 7am and get back by 5pm, so that might be too much of a gap.

Sonyalouise - hope things get sorted for you soon. The pill you speak of is how I bring on AF for every IVF cycle as I don't get my periods normally. I take Progynova (estrogen) for 3 weeks then Provera (progesterone) for one week and about 48 hours after the Provera I get AF.

Mummawannabe - well we can get each other through this cycle together then ha ha. I'm on progynova 2mg, three times a day. No increase, just the same dose the whole way through. I think! I also think I'll start the pessaries a few days before transfer and then 3 times a day after transfer. I wish it was just the crinone, I find that a breeze with no side effects. The progynova isn't too bad but I get fairly snappy usually after a week or two of it and I tend to have a little mini-explosion-tantrum moment! It's happened with each cycle thus far (I also take it to bring on AF each time as I can't take oral contraceptive pills to do that instead). I have my BT and scan tomorrow morning so will know more about my transfer day but I'm thinking it may be early next week!

MHIC - it's all sounding great for your EPU, good luck!

Tracy - congrats on the new job! GL for the rest of your 2ww -you are brave to plan to POAS so early, I've sworn off POAS after breaking my heart over it twice!

AFM - Day 10 today, off tomorrow for my first BT and scan for this HRT FET. Fingers crossed the lining is going ok. Finding this so different to a stim cycle it feels odd. But of course that will change with the pessaries ha ha. I promise I'll stop harping on about them once I start. It's just that fear of the unknown, plus working out if I do have to take them in the middle of a work day just exactly how I do it!

Mrs P we went 2.5 hour drive north of perth yesterday and then back in one day so the only way to take my pessary was in that gross place.......but I promise you.....it's soooo much more convenient!!!

afm- the non babyshower, babyshower was ok. kinda as I expected, but you can't go to these things and not expect a certain amount of baby/kid talk.
Not feeling in a great mood, it's like pmt....got me a bit worried. oh well what can you do.

Afternoon Ladies,

I haven't posted in here since I started the 2WW as I've been posting in the 2WW thread instead (sorry ladies :redface:!). Just thought I would pop in and let you all know that the verdict is in..... and it's a BFP! It's all very surreal at the moment and both DH and I are very excited!!

I was supposed to have a BT tomorrow, however POAS'd Sat, Sun and this morning and it came up as postive.... I just couldn't wait and had the BT moved to today as I was going out of my mind! The update from the nurse was that all of my levels were excellent for a 1 day early BT... My progesterone was 87.2 and my Hcg was at 153!

I would just like to say a huge thank you to you all as I could not have gotten through this without you...... :grouphug:. You are truly a bunch of amazing women and I am so thankful to you all for the support you have given!

Sorry for no personals at the moment as far too much has happened in here since I last posted and my brain is a little fuzzy at the moment! In saying that, I would like to wish you all the best of luck :goodluck: with your cycles and will be :pray:'ing for you all to get that long awaited BFP!

CORAL73 - Congratulations !!! :hooray: Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months!!

emerald - is there anywhere on the site that shows people's BFPs month by month? that would be good. it did make me sad, that there was only one in October...so many want it so bad, and all deserve.

Airline - You are asking the wrong person......i don't know my way around this site..:redface: i just know this forum and i had to be instructed into the 2ww forum...although i TOTALLY agree with you that there should be a section where people can post their BFP's month by month and in detail if they want eg, beta numbers, how many, genders delivery dates and anything else relevent. However, for now i try to remember month by month and post it in this forum to give us all hope that one day it WILL be us....:dance: Your BT is soon ? have you POAS'd?

Hey there...no I haven't. But DH has told me to go buy one tomorrow. I can't decide whether to buy one like last time, it just gives a line if there's any trace of pregnancy...as opposed to the ones that give a faint or strong line...if that makes sense. I also was rather silly and looked at the 'sticky' empty arms broken hearts....seen it before but it gets me every time.

I think what I like about it is when you do it on the day or day before, it prepares you a little for the news. But then it does play with your mind a bit, because if it is negative you do everything you can to convince yourself it was a false negative.:rolleyes:

Quick post for you from my couch after EPU this morning!!!

AFM - So here goes - Up bright and early and into the clinic at 6.45am. EPU wasnt as bad as I thought and Im not doing too bad now either. So, all together we got 8 eggs. Of these 2 or 3 weren't quite mature but they said you never know. Fertilisation was to take place at 12noon today and we will get a call tomorrow to let us know how its all going. FX big time now. Grow little guys grow.

Best get back to resting. Oh also, ET should be on Sunday so now just have to wait till then.

Congrats on the good number ay EPU MH. Just reat up and let nature (with the help of an embyologist, lol) take it's course sweet. It will be fine.

haven?t been on B.B for awhile im 35yrs hubby 30yrs have been ttc since Sep 08 have PCOS, Endo and have only had period 3 times so have now being seeing a fertility specialist since Aug, tried clomid which didn?t work and gave me ovarian hyperstimulation on my right side so then had to stop taking those tablets. So then had to wait 2 weeks & now im doing injections which I did for 6 days then had a scan & was told two eggs looked ready so was sent home with a ovulation kit & then went back in for a scan 4 days later & told they had gone told Dr the test always came back with nothing and he some people it doesn?t work for them, so was sent off for blood test to see if I did ovulate & I had and missed it which was a massive bummer......
Dr then told me to wait another two weeks to see if I get period before I have another scan period come so I started injections again on day 3 then went back in for scan on day 6 and was told now the injections aren?t working so he upped the dosage & have to have scan 2m... Haven?t been having to many side effects but have put on 8 kilos which im hating & im getting really moody & no patience?s which is taking its toll on hubby.
So over having scans every week to be told not working now so I think I want to tell Dr I want to go straight to IVF.
So if any of you girls can give me your opinion if I should stick to what im doing or go to IVF & cut out all this other stuff as im not getting any younger & we want 2 kids and IVF could also take awhile ?????
Starting to not cope and Hubby just keeps saying to stressing it will happen when it?s meant to, easy for him to say...... :wall:

I have not been on BB much lately - but had a quick scan and looks like BFP for Coral & mitf - fantastic news girls - that gives us some hope. I am so happy for you both - you must be ecstatic and probably still full of nerves - I'm guessing that is how I would feel.

Hope everyone else is doin well, motherhood after all your worry I am glad to pop back in and see you have had EPU with some good results. FX for gd fertilisation now and for your ET.

AFM - still pill popping - think I start synarel maybe on Sunday - still waiting for my schedule to come out.
