Hello everyone,
Firstly sorry Nat and Ellie re. your BFN's. Rols, hope you and DW are feeling OK and agree with BG it wouldnt be normal if you didnt feel something! I feel for you and hope your waiting blasties will stick and grow next cycle!
MO5 - WOW Congrats! Hun, please don't stress! Now more than ever you need to relax, so your little embie sticks. So sending you plenty of sticky vibes!
Smithy hows the Synarel treating you!
Son ... what does 510 for bloods mean?
I went for my BT yesterday. Nurse rang me in arvo and said that my levels are on the low side (she didnt say what the number was) ... and my dose has been increased to 300IU. Has that happened to anyone?
I am going in on Fri for more drugs, BT and US, so will be exciting. Nurse said depending on how it goes, it could be Wed, Fri or the following Monday! Gees the uncertainty of it all! Anyway just need to be patient.
To everyone else 'hi' and hope all is proceeding well!
Mon :)

Morning Everyone
I just wanted to clarify some stats. I was told when having a Day 5 Blast transferred there is a 35-40% chance of conceiving. And when having a Day 6 Blast transferred there is only 30-35% chance of conceiving. They say Day 6 transfers are less likely not to implant. When trying to conceive they say its a 20% chance.
Is this right?
Does ICSI also give you a more chance of conceiving?
Sorry for the thousand and one questions I am still learning something new everyday on IVF/ICSI
-
mon - 510 is my oestregen levels. oestregen rises and thats how they monitor if or when you will ovulate. usually above 1000 and LH level of 20 means you will ovulate within 48 hours.
my levels last time got to 750 then dropped, so this time when they reach 600 i go in for an ultrasound. i guess they will see if there is a follicle and check the thickness of my endometrium.
hope this has helped explain things.
-
Nat, I wasn't aware of the difference between a Day 5 and Day 6 blast regarding implantation rates. Although I did wonder if transferring a hatching blast was leaving things slightly too late - but this is only conjecture and not based on facts.
Our clinic quoted 40%-50% chance of pregnancy per transfer for people in our age group (DW and I), and with a good quality embryo. But there are bound to be differences in the figure quoted depending on your age, the embryo and the clinic.
Yes, percentage figure for conceiving naturally, with no fertility issues with either partner, is usually suggested to be 20%-25% per month. Therefore, in theory, a normally fertile couple can conceive within 4 months.
As for ICSI, it doesn't give you a greater chance of implantation over IVF, but it does give you far greater prospects of fertilisation than IVF, where the sperm are defective to the point that they can't, or probably can't, penetrate the egg without assistance. ICSI is commonly used for samples provided whereby most or all of the sperm are abnormally shaped (morphology) or have poor to nil movement (motility). They say that embryos created using ICSI are just as likely to lead to a live birth as those created with IVF. There has been some suggestion that ICSI can lead to a higher birth defect rate owing to the quality of the sperm, but from my reading of various articles and research, this has yet to be proven and in any event, the risk is marginal.
-
Mon, it happened to me. I'll drop back with more info later... but I will say be careful, make sure you keep your water intake up. I went from 150IU to 300IU, then spent the next week rapidly cutting back the dose as the clinic was trying to avoid hyperstimulation with me. Didn't happen in the end and I couldn't transfer after EPU. Do you have PCOS? That's apparently what contributed to the lack of response and then over response with me.
Nat, I've only seen stats that compare day 5 blast transfers with day 2 transfers. But the 20% chance for natural conception is correct for couples with no fertility problems, and I'm told it's a 42% chance of a blast transfer taking in a woman under 35.
More from me later when I'm not working.

:confetti:yay MUMOF5 congratulations to you hun well done sending you a heap of:stickyvibesboy::stickyvibesgirl:
MON.. im doing ok on the spray i just feel like i have something in the back of my throat is this normal??i spose i just have to get use to it sometimes i dont feel like im doing it right..but i wish you all the best with your upcoming BT,US, and meds good luk hun
-
Hi BW, thanks for the advice. I dont have PCOS, but have Polycistic ovaries, however FS seemed to think this wasnt a problem. To be honest I didnt really find any info on PO vs PCOS. Does anyone know?
Will make sure to ask when go in on Friday. Been drinking heaps of H20 so will def keep that up!
General Q ... does it cost more to do blast transfer over 2-3 day transfer? My clinic only transfers 2-3 day embryo's. I wonder why clinics differ from one to the other?
Mon :)
-
hey smithy ... the thing at the back of your throat is normal ... its the chemicals going down the back of your throat. sometimes I think i havent sprayed properly or whatever, but when i feel those chemicals trickling down the back of throat then that validates for me that its working. hope you are feeling ok and arent having any unpleasant feelings! thanks for your well wishes hun :)
-
As far as I'm aware PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and polycystic ovaries are the same thing.
I assume it does cost more to transfer at blast stage, but we only have one provider where I live so I haven't shopped around. I don't really know why some clinics do Day 2 transfers given that the more advanced embryos become apparent at Day 5 stage. I've never figured that out. That said, heaps of people get pregnant from Day 2 transfers. There is a thread on this topic under the LTTTC/AC section thread summary.
-
oh thank you MON that really helps me
-
hiya Mon
with reference to the PCO/PCO query, there are a few differences - your ovaries can have a polycystic appearance without have the syndrome - syndrome includes hormonal imbalances and extra things like insulin resistance. BW was thought to have only PCO i believe as she didn't have many of the other parts of the syndrome, but a glucose test showed high insulin resistance, so she has PCOS...
-
Hi All,
Been a while since I've been in this thread and so much seems to be happening.
Rols & Nat, I'm so sorry things did not work out, and Rols - you have every right to feel the way you do.
Mon - not long to go now and hopefully you will be in the tww.
Em - Yay....Is your mom still going to come and babysit 7 munchkins for you hehehe. I know you told me to go and put myself out of misery and get an early BT - but as we have the same nurses I'm guessing they'll get ****ed at me as well. Stress of people being mad at me is not something I can deal with right now. I seem to be very fragile emotionally.
I think I am gearing up for a BFN on Monday so that anything else will be a really big suprise..but who am I kidding I will be still be upset if it is a "-".
Smithy, sounds like you are having a fun time with the Syneral heheh disgsuting stuff.
I am having a day at home today..started down the freeway to Sydney and lets just say that halfway there a bucket and change of clothes might have been handy (sorry TMI) On the upside my boss was more than happy for me to turn around and go home....there is so little on day time tv, let me tell you.
Hi everyone else I hope things are going okay for you all
Stickyvibes and babydust!
Cheers
Shelly

BG is right - you can have PCO but not PCOS, and you can also have PCOS without PCO. It's all a bit complicated, and it's actually the hormone profile and insulin resistance that is used more in diagnosis than the appearance of the ovaries. The no response/over response situation with FSH injections is something very common with PCOS (not necessarily PCO). Confused yet? ;)
BG is also correct in that for a very long time I wondered if I really had PCOS as my initial hormone tests weren't that bad, and I have none of the normal externally obvious symptoms of PCOS. But later hormone tests were shocking, and my insulin resistance levels are approaching the worst my FS has ever seen.
As for blast/day 2 transfer - it does cost a bit extra ($500) at my clinic. Some say that an embryo that won't make it to blast won't result in a pregnancy anyway. Some clinics stick with day 2 transfers, however. It is cheaper, and there's no absolute guarantee that if your embryo won't make it to blast in the clinic that it can't result in a viable pregnancy - there just isn't enough known about it all yet. I've read a paper that argues that the reason some clinics stick with day 2 transfers is because of inferior lab techniques and not wanting patients to blame the lab for having no embryos to transfer. So they stick them back in early, so the patient then feels that it's a problem with them rather than a problem with the lab... I thought it went a bit far, personally, but I can dig up that information once I get home.
Must run to the psychologist now... back in a couple of hours.

SHELLY... best of luk with your BT hun
-
Hey Shelly
Don't think there would be 2 in there cause my level would be alot higher. My mum never look after my kids even when she does come visit. A bucket and new clothes sounds good lol. I to have been crying at the drop of a hat the last few days aswell.
-
hello everybody!
got my day 13 Bt results. LH - 7 and E - 860! so i am rising wuite rapidly. ultrasound and bloods tomorrow and if all is well maybe a transfer at the end of next week. fingers crossed
last news on puppies at 12 noon was one little brown boy dobermann born at 9.40am and unfortuantely one deceased little brown girl at 11.15am.... going back at 5pm to see how progress is going. mum is expecting 7 puppies....
smithy - i always knew synarel was properly inhaled when about 5 mins later there would be a horrible hot acidic liquid go down my throat! so the feeling in your throat is totally normal... good luck
-
thanks for the info sonya and best of luk with those beautiful puppies how cute
best of luk for the BT AND US tomorrow
-
BW ... thanks for explaining PCO vs PCOS! I understood what you were saying - makes sense. Do you have to do a specific blood test for your insulin? I am surprised then that my FS hasnt even suggested it! I will make sure to ask. That article also sounds interesting! You are so well informed BW ... thank you again, would love to read it and quiz the clinic.
I read about your appts and hope all is going well! Good luck with your psych appt!
Sonya looks like we are really close in regards to transfer date! I'll be egging you on (pardon the pun)! Good luck with those pups! Sounds exciting!
Mon :)
-
Mon, the insulin resistance was discovered during a glucose tolerance test. My blood glucose remained within the right limits, but my insulin levels were astronomical. This means that my pancreas has to flood my body with insulin in order to cope when I eat anything that contains sugar, and it's the extra insulin that causes all the other hormones (LH, FSH, testosterone, etc) to become unbalanced and causes an excess of the androgenic hormones which cause the acne, hirsutism, obesity, etc that is common with PCOS. If your hormone profile appears normal, then there's probably no reason for the further testing to be done.
In order to find the article, I've got to go search another forum and grab the link again. I'll PM it to you when I find it, and hopefully I can find the time to paste the relevant bits in the appropriate thread. I feel it was a bit biased, as it comes across as though if you don't transfer a blast you can't get pregnant, which is far from true!
Today's psychology appointment went really well :) there's another huge update on my tought processes in my journal. Part of the reason I'm so well informed is because I've been milking everyone's brain here on BB for quite a long time. I figure it's only fair to give back what I have gained.
Excuse the typos - it's freezing here and my arthritis is flaring... I think I caught most of them!
BW
-
Good Morning Guys
BW - Glad to hear the appointment went well, i will have to go and have a read of your journal and catch up. And yes you a pearl of wisdom and have been amazing the past 12 months i have been on belly belly!
Sonya - Congrats on your levels not long until transfer now! That is fantastic! And exciting about the puppies! Are you after a boy or girl?
MO5 - Just ignore everybody who is even slightly negative! This is your wonderful happy time and you should enjoy it! The nurses might be a little different if it was them going through this rubbish and dealing with the TWW! And it is lovely to hear some BFP's around here!
Smithy - Im hearing you on the synarel! Gross... i took it an hour ago and can still taste it!
Well we had our scan this morning, 615am! What a way to wake up! and we have 7 follies that are easily visable and a few more growing. So yay it looks like this cycle will be full steam ahead! She doesn't want me growing more than 10 because last time i had OHSS with 11... damn PCOS! So slow and steady this cycle and hopefully we will still have 2 nice blastys to put back! Next scan on Tuesday and then EPU Thursday or Friday next week! Yay im excited!! We are off to Sydney tonight for the long weekend which means i will no doubt be offline.... and going insane what to do without BB for 3 days!
Alrighty better get some work done here at 630 which is insane! And nobody knows about the IVF so just have to be silently happy all day! :)
Have a lovely day guys and gals! :)
-
Thank you Shannon... you'll make me blush! I hope you have a great time in Sydney - word of warning, it's absolutely freezing here! Cold and wet and just awful, and looks like being that way through the weekend, too. I hope you don't run into too much hassle with the APEC stuff going on around here. I'm personally taking the opportunity to avoid going into the city at all, and staying out as far as I can. The best thing... :D My school is closed for the day tomorrow even though we're outside the region that should get the public holiday because one of our bus companies won't run. DH is off work too, but all around us everything will be business as usual. Hopefully the arthritis will settle enough for me to be able to enjoy it!
Still stressing a little about the hy-co-sy to come... I'm just hoping it won't be as bad as I'm imagining.
BW
-
good news Shannon. have a relaxing few days in Sydney.
Me - had bloods and ultrasound. two follies on right ovary one 21mm and one 11mm endometrium at 8.4mm so Dr reckons i will ovulate normally, no need for trigger! yay! hopefully i ovulate about sunday and transfer next friday! getting excited now..
Puppies were delivered by emergency c-section. mum lost another boy so they made the decision to operate. she now has 2 boys and 2 girls. a black/tan and brown/tan of each! clever girl. about to go meet the litter and puppysit to give the owner a break. we would like a male and hopefully a brown/tan one....
Rols- is DW back yet? you must be missing her like crazy!!! take care and hope to hear more soon
-
Shannon agree with BW is def a pearl of wisdom! I have skimmed through the article and printed it off and will read it when get home in more detail! Its good to be informed.
Shannon looks like we may be going in for EPU around the same time. I go in for my BT and US tomorrow morn and have been told it could be either Wed or Fri of next week.
Sonya how exciting about imminent transfer! Fingers crossed! How exciting about the pups!! Awesome!
M05 - how are you feeling?
To everyone else a big hi. Hopefully can log on over the long weekend, have been having probs with internet connection at home after my DH opened a virus! doh!
Feeling a bit woosy and headachy with my injections (or rather dosage) being increased! I hope all is OK tomorrow!
Have a good night all!
Mon :)
-
Hi All,
Well AF arrived with gusto this morning so I didn't even make the BT on Monday. I was pretty busy at work so have not had too much time to dwell on it. Got three days ahead with the APEC long weekend though so we are looking for lots of things to keep me busy. First order of the day though will be a really nice glass of red wine! I am actually dealing with it suprisingly well. I am prone to be very emotional so I am just waiting to see when and how bad it actually does hit me when it does.
Next....I relax (haha) for this month and then we can go FET. DH has always been against two but surprised me today by saying we should put two back! So bring on the next six weeks--I've already discovered patience is a virtue I lack.
Anyway enough of being self absorbed.
Shannon sounds like everything is going great with your levels - good luck.
Rols - how are you and DW doing? How's her holidays or more to the point how's your credit card? hehe
BW, Mon, Sonya, Smithy, Em hope you are all going well.
Stickyvibes and babydust for everyone
Cheers
Shelly
-
sorry shelly about AF showing up take care and good luck in your FET cycle.
Mon best wishes for bt and ultrasound tomorrow and for the epu next week! getting exciting
ME - had to pick my son up from daycare at 1pm as he woke up crying for me and is ill. got him home, put him in my bed with a movie and panadol and rang for results........
so much for no trigger-levels had dropped a bit so i had to pack up poor sick child, jump in car and do the 40min drive to the clinic for pregnyl injection...and it HURT!!!!..... my poor Thomas started gagging in the elevator and i ripped of his jacket for him to do his little chuck up in (sorry for TMI)
what a day
good news is my transfer is booked for next Thursday the 13th and i ring about 4pm wednesday to see if an embie survived the thaw... fingers crossed...

It's been a while since i've posted on these sites, but since it's now 3.30am and i can't sleep. i have so many thoughts going through my head - i feel i need to get some out. i keep thinking that 3 years ago i thought it would happen so easily, and now i think how much time has passed and i also keep thinking that every female in my life (friends and family) have had or will have a child soon (my close friend has just told me she is pregnant - it was an accident) - i feel i have no one in my life (besides my husband) to talk to as no one can understand my frustrations. i found out Wednesday i had another failed AIH attempt and i'm just so sad. i'm at a lost on what to do, as i can't afford the cost and emotional stress icsi does (as that resulted in negative results). i would love to know of any chat sites for similar frustrated people or even groups that meet on the gold coast, cause at the moment i feel alone (which i'm angry at feeling this way- as i know there are people alot worse then me) - sorry to ramble - but i actually feel a little better now and even getting a bit tired. thanks for letting me vent.
-
Hi all,
I hope you don't mind me joining this thread. I had my 3rd IVF transfer on Tuesday (2nd FET) and am just trying to think positive at the moment (have also been on the 2WW thread).
Bec, I'm sorry you are feeling so sad and lost. I don't know of know of any other chat sites, but I have found everyone on BB to be so understanding and supportive, and I think it helps that others on BB are going through similar situations and can support each other. Your feelings are normal - I too have had similar feelings of thinking it would happen so easily and it seems that everyone around me is falling pregnant. I'm sorry I don't know any groups on the Gold Coast but if you ever need to vent I think BB is the right place. Take care and I wish you and your DH the best of luck.
Shelly, I'm sorry about this cycle and wish you all the best for your FET in Oct.
Mon and Shannon, good luck with you EPU's next week.
Sonya, good luck for your transfer next week. Also, good luck with your puppysitting and getting a male pup. I have a 5 month old staffy pup I got since I started IVF and I have found he definitely keeps me occupied and takes my mind off it for a bit!
Good luck to everyone.
Kazza
-
Hi Bec
sorry your feeling down. maybe check with your clinic for a support group. we have one at my clinic called Genesis. i think people doing AC meet up with a nurse or councellor for general meetings and discuss emotions, concerns etc. maybe your local council would have details of such a group
take care of yourself in such a difficult and emotional time.
-
Hi Mon... Im feeling pretty sick today and so so tired, flat out keeping my eyes open. Good luck with the EPU
-
hi all how are we??

MON. hope the BT went well for you today thinking of you ;)
to everyone have a nice weekend
-
Hi Gang,
About to hit the hay and too tired to be able to make a personals post which actually makes sense, but I have been reading everyones news with interest and keeping up with exactly where you're all at.
To those who were wondering about us, I'm fine more or less and pumped about the FET. DW not so pumped and the reality of life has hit her since getting home from Sydney. She hasn't really dealt with it whilst away, and has to now she's home. Had a chat tonight, she'll be alright.
To those of you who don't venture far beyond these threads and have a bloke with MF infertility, this one might be well worth a read: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...ad.php?t=45795
Oh, and a bit of good news, we ended up with three blasties, not two. The scientist changed her mind about one, so we have two hatching and one extended. And just as we paid the whole cycle off, we got the $600 freezing bill with 7 day terms. Yeah right!
-
A BIG HELLO to all!
I have been meaning to pop over to this neck of the woods for a while now, but seem to have become rather absorbed by the TTC journals. It's about time I broaden my horizons I think.
Boy there's a lot going on over here. Hopefully I've got it all right? Let's see how I go:
Congrats to - Sparkles, Mel & MO5 (soon to be MO6 's. I'm stoked for you & wish you all h&h Pg's.
Apologies to - Shelly, Nat, Ellie, Rols. I'm so sorry your recent cycles weren't a success, and wish you much luck for the next steps in your journey. I hope your own BFP's are not too far away.
Shannon & Mon - looks like EPU is not too far off. I'm praying there's a good no. of 'eggs'ellent qual eggies brewing up for you both. Good luck!
Sonya - FET not far away now. Best of luck hun!
Nic - sheeeesh! 12-13wks + of Synarel?? By golly! How are you going with it? I hope it's not messing with you too much.
Smithy (SSPPB) - good to hear you're feeling more comfy with the Synarel now. When do you start the jabs matey?
Kazza & BG - thinking of you on your TWW's and sending loads of STICKIES your way. Best of luck to you 2.
A bit of background info for those who don't know me:-
DH and I started TTC in Dec '06. We got things checked out early as DH had TTC for 12mths+ in his previous marriage with no luck. Some tests back then showed low count & motility.
Unfortunately this time 'round his troops are looking worse, and after a few months of accupuncture, herbs & supplements galore, they're still looking pretty shoddy, and not much was achieved apart from "expensive urine," according to our Andrologist. LOL! Tests have showed no varicocele / structural probs, no hormone or genetic issues - there just seems to be no scientific explanation for DH's fertility issues. Fortunately, I check out A'OK!
It has been a pretty trying few months for us, DH especially, but we're getting our heads around things, and it's now full steam ahead for us, and ICSI this month. I am day 3 on my Synarel, and looking like I will start injections next weekend with EPU somewhere b/w 25 - 30/9. We're feeling positive, but keeping as realistically minded as poss about the whole thing.
Best of luck to everyone. I'm really looking forward to seeing some BFP's in here very soon!
Arielle
-
Hi Arielle, thanks for your wishes. I have just read your journal and wish you and your DH the very best of luck with this cycle.
Take care.

Hi Karena,
Antonia Ruhl (Natural Stress Therapy) sells a natural product called "Bïg O'. It is a mix of natural massage oils. It is both a lubricant as well as a stimulant. DH and I both love it. Her clinic is in Melbourne but I believe they will courier it interstate. As far as I know it is not available through any other channel.
She also has a new Wine tonic called "Selvagem" that she is importing from Brazil. It contains several herbs with reputed aphrodisiac qualities. It tastes nice and does get DH and I in the mood .
We are continuing to take the Blood/Immune tonic and can notice the difference in our energy levels. We have both been quite busy with work so we figure it must be the tonic that is helping. Seeing Antonia again next week. Will keep you all posted on our adventure.
Lots of sticky vibes to everyone.
Love,
Kerri
-
Hi Kerri
Can you PM me Antonia's details...might make a trip to Melbourne to shop and pay her a visit!!!
Thanks!
-
Hi all, sorry ive been MIA for so so so long, so long in fact i bet half of you dont even know who i am. hehehe I have been watching and reading and praying for you all every day
Oh Kerri - im so glad that you are feeling so good on Antonia's herbs - I was with her for about 6 months but didnt really feel i was getting anywhere so now am seeing a irrodologist (sp?) and have already seen a great result with other health issues, such as finally going to the toilet, which TBH i think is most of my troubles.
Ellie - where you at in your Cycle hun?
BG - hows the TTW
BW - good luck with the treatment tomorrow xx
Smithy - hope your well hun and good to see you in here if you know what i mean?
Welcome to all the new ladies and congrats to all thoese who have had BFP over the last few weeks, Mel, MO5, sparkles

to everyone i hope you all had a nice weekend
i am on day 6 of the synarel and i have a very sore throat not sure if its due to the synarel going down the back of my throat or im coming down with something ??
have a great week
-
Hi Kerry & kareena!
Woohooh! Antonia's Big O concoction (& the rest) sounds like it's worth a go. Would you know if it's formulated to be sperm friendly like the Pre-seed is?
Kareena - My DH and I have tried the pre-seed lubricants. They are specially formulated to be sperm-friendly, unlike your average lubricant. My DH has MF infertility, so we figured anything that may help give his boys a hand, is worth shot. Most lubricants don't actually contain spermicides, unless specifically stated, but most do contain glycerol &/or silicone or silicone-like ingredients (e.g. dimethicone), which make the lubricant difficult for the lil' fellas to swim through.
Unfortunately Pre-seed didn't seem to help us conceive, and it did come at quite a price compared to your average lubricant (we ordered online through an ebay store I think?). The other thing worth mentioning is that DH wasn't all that fond of it really. We were s'posed to use a whole tube each BD session, which produced (SORRY all if TMI) a fair amount of gooeyness, and eliminated most friction - so DH complained that a LOT of sensation was diminished for him.
No doubt, everyone is different, and each to their own really. I still do think it's worth a try!
Hope that helps matey! Happy BD'ing!
Arielle

Hello, hope every1 had a good weekend!
Arielle, great to see you in here! Hope the Synarel is going well for you! And ditto to you Smithy.
Loula welcome back! I hope you get your well deserved BFP!!
Sparkles, Mel & MO5 hope the PGs are coming along nicely!
Shannon, are you booked in for your EPU yet? And Sonya what about your FET?
To everyone else hope you are in a good place and your TTC journey is doing well!
Good to be jump back on line and see where every1 is at! My internet connection was down over the long w/e (bloody viruses), so couldnt get on to see how every1 is doing!
I went for my BT and US on Fri and this morning. Waiting for a call back. But EPU looks likely to be Fri or Mon at this stage. My BT as of Fri was good (above 1000) and follies growing well. This morning had 20 follicles on right hand side and 12 on left hand side and they ranged in size from 9mm - 13mm. There were a couple that were bigger - around 18mm, however nurse said that given these will probably end up being too mature. But she said everything was cooking well.
Will post all the details in my journal! But did have a bit of an incident / reaction with the drugs on Sat night. Had a monster headache all day and in the evening did spray, Gonal F and popped a couple of Panadol. This was just as I had finished eating! Anyway I started feeling really nauseaus and half hour later threw up. Nurse said its common side effect, and could be a combination of headache / panadol / not enough food. Anyway have felt better since. However I can really feel my ovaries all bloated up now. Esp when I walk!!! Anwyay hoping EPU will be on Friday - at least have the weekend to relax, rather than taking additional days off work!
Will keep you posted!
Mon :)
