Hey my fellow IUI buddies.......
I had my DAY 11 scan today which showed at least two good follies (one on each ovary), but it also showed some fluid up around the top of one ovary........any clues as to what that fluid is and why it would be there? FS didnt seem fazed by it - but i dont think anything would faze him either.
I remember i had fluid show up on a scan is a similar spot(to confirm a miscarriage) months ago.
Hope someone can help!
I'm horrified this morning to read this story in the Daily Telegraph:
Baby bills up $2000 as Medicare Safety Net cut | The Daily Telegraph
If the Government reduces the safety net percentage for fertility treatment and pregnancy related medical rebates, firstly it is a direct discrimination against women. Secondly, it will directly impact the demand for services in public hospitals. The Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick has already indicated it has more bookings for births this year than it is equipped and funded to handle. New mothers are being sent home as early as four hours after giving birth as a result. Next door at Prince of Wales Private, they are shuffled off to a local hotel! All in the name of saving money and keeping beds available. We urgently need to repopulate to replace the tax payers who are retiring. Population begins with conception and birth. This, at least, is one fundamental truth that the Howard Government understood.

Thanks Kurby
I am now in the madness of TWW. I am nervous and excited at the same time.
Thanks to you and Kaz for all your support and goodluck to you guys with the IVF.
We'll get there.
:hello: to everyone else in here. Hope you are all well.
Hi Everyone,
I had the iui yesterday..oh felt cramp but only 2-5 mins and the pain gone.
So i will start to inject the Pregnyl on monday, thurs, sun, wed and on 20th i will have a blood test to find out if it positie / negative..i guess i become 2weeks waiter now :)
This morning i felt like im gonna vomit and bit dizzy..is it normal?
and what do and dont after you have iui?
Thank you,
Hi and welcome Olin. You are in TWW with me. Last IUI I had I was more dizzy than I am this time. You can get those symptoms you described from the Pregnyl. So my advice is don't get your hopes up too much - as hard as that is but stay positive. Some people on here say just ignore all sypmtoms if you can.
I think really the best way of knowing is to do HPT once the Pregnyl would have worn off and of course from the BT. I have my BT of the 16th but I will probably do a HPT on the 14th I recon.
GL and I hope you get a much deserved BFP and that we can be pregnant together.
All the best
Girls, I can't advise enough against using HPTs. Anyone on any kind of fertility drug will not get an accurate reading. Even the blood tests aren't conclusive when you use Pregnyl. On my third and fourth IUIs the BTs showed a beta hCG of over 40 which is technically a positive result - but the lack of progesterone said otherwise. Then I did an HPT after my last IUI and it was negative. Four days later the BT showed up positive - and now I'm 22wks.
HPTs do nothing but upset girls like us. The TWW is awfully hard to get through, and this forum is here to help you cope. But stay away from the HPTs. They are wrong so often, it's just not worth the heartbreak.
Thanks OP
Im trying very hard not to do HPT's because I realise they do give a positive reading when using Pregnyl or others.
I think if I was throwing up then I might know Im pregnant but realise probably the only way to know for sure is to have the proper tests done. I know my body pretty well - so I may have some idea but not for certain.
Hope things are well for you. Thanks for your advise and support.
Hey girls,
I'm currently in the midst of my TWW as well - DAY 24 today........dont really have any hopes up this cycle - im finding that with IUI and everything being much more out of our control,i find its a heap less stressful...ie not worrying about timing or whether i have good follies or a good lining or whether DH's sample was up to scratch cos these things are all known when you do IUI.....does that make sense?
I still am thinking about it constantly - but not as stressed.....weird.
Loops 12 and Olin - good luck!
Hi Ladies
Its BFN for me. Probably will be moving into IVF now.
Good luck to you all x
BIG HUGS LOOPS!!!!!!
Good luck MWB!!!
Well ladies i come with good news...... Surprising but good for us... Im pregnant found out after scan today im 7 weeks and 2 days pregnant bubs has a gorgeous little heartbeat but im still terrified as you can imagine..... I found out Saturday week ago i was pregnant only tested to rule it out before starting on the provera as my period hadn't been.. We were in shock it had happened naturally and that going by when we knew we DTD that i was already over 6 weeks pregnant going by ectopic operation date... We had DTD twice but honestly had no idea i was ovulating..... We are both really happy but nervous and really want to just wake up at 15weeks pregnant so that every niggle doesn't do my head in.......
I want to send all my baby dust to all the wonderful ladies on here..... I wish you all the best for what the future holds and will remember to pop in and check how your going....
Oh my god Jane
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wooh hooh
So stoked for you, what a great surprise :)
Hopefully we get our BFP this month as well I'm 7DPO (Dont know how to fix my ticker hahaha)
Will post longer when I have a chance.
WOW Congrats Janeo! What an awesome surprise to conceive naturally after having assisted. All the best for a healthy and happy PG. :stickyvibesgirl: :stickyvibesboy:
afm - I may have been wrong, AF still hasnt showed up I really just thought all sign were pointing to BFN but now not 100% sure. My BT is tomorrow.
Thanks for your support x
Hi ladies,
I hope you don't mind me dropping into this thread, I recently had an IVF cycle converted to a IUI. I have a question re the trigger injection and a HPT BFP. I had a 5000iu pregnyl trigger injection on Friday morning 3rd March, IUI on Saturday 4th March, I did a POAS yesterday approx 11.5 days past trigger. What are your thoughts on the 5000iu trigger being out of my system by then? Especially if testing with a Lullaby Conceptions that reads as low as 10 hcg?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated, TIA.
As we've discussed previously, anyone using fertility drugs cannot rely on a home pregancy test (HPT) result.
Trigger injections like Pregnyl or Ovidrel are a synthetic form of hCG. Home pregnancy tests are designed to detect hCG. It takes 5 to 7 days for the effects of Pregnyl or Ovidrel to wear off. So if you use an HPT during this period you will most likely get a false result.
A blood test, on the other hand, will look at beta hCG levels and progesterone levels. High levels of both indicate a corpus luteum (the crater left on the ovary from the follicle that released an ovum) is producing enough of both these hormones to sustain a pregnancy.
However, if Pregnyl has been used in luteal support (the 14 days after ovulation), this will impact the hCG levels. For example, the beta hCG reading could be over 45, but if the progesterone levels read some crazy number like 1.4, this is called a chemical pregnancy. An ultrasound would most likely prove there is no egg sack and no embryo, although AF usually comes well before that happens.
Hope this answers your question.
Thanks Original P, so given I tested 11.5 days after a 5000iu trigger, in your opinion would a +HPT be because of left over trigger or a true BFP hcg level? TIA x
Hi Baby Dreamtime,
I would think that the pregnoyl would be out of your system by 11.5 days after injection.
also thought I would share my story.
I had a great big juicy Follie last week. I had the IUI done last Thursday so I'm officially 6 DPO (Dont worry about what my ticker sez its broken lol)I have been using pessies since last Friday (they make me feel so yuck)
I have been feeling really odd the last couple of days.
I rang our fertility centre and told them that I still have ferns on my maybe baby and the nurse said oooohhhhh in a really good way. have to wait until next Thursday to see I spose.
Now this may be TMI but I have really stringy but gunky mucas which is a light greeny colour like boogie when you have a throat infection. grose I know sorry hahahahaha
Has anyone else had this as this is my first time ever and it is kinda grosing me out.
Hopefully its the begining of my mucus plug forming but I really have no idea when or what that looks like hahahaha.
At least its made me laugh
Also I still have ferns on my maybe baby and I ovualated over a week ago.
Felt really ill after lunch yesterday and I have felt off for the last 2 days (just not with it, my other half will talk to me and I have to say pardon like 3 times before it actually sinks in) That is not like me. Also come 3.30 I need a nana nap, totally knackered.
Please feel free to comment

Janeo, this is such wonderful news for you! The baby snuck in when you weren't looking. After everything you've been through you so deserve this! Keep up your vitamins, especially your B6 and zinc. And get lots of rest!!! You're carrying precious cargo! Only five weeks til the next scan - you will get there!
Very good luck to you!
:-)
OP.
:D
Heya Babydreamtime,
I think HPTs are designed to make money for pharmaceutical companies!!! We've all had a turn at lining their pockets with our own heartache and I for one am totally against it! Lol!
Seriously though, having HPTd at 11 DPO and got a negative, then done a BT four days later and gotten a BFP, I believe HPTs are totally useless. I think they're dependent on the level of hormones, which varies radically between individuals. For example, my hCG was 175 and Progesterone was 82. I thought that was good until I heard Shades hCG reading was over 500!!! I don't know what her Prog was, but I feel sure there's no way she wouldn't have registered a BFP on an HPT. And in both cases it's irrelevant because both were BFP and stayed that way.
Do you get my meaning? My advice is just wait til the blood test. It's paid for by Medicare whereas HPTs cost precious money that's better spent on more important things. It's a hard habit to break, but honestly, every BFN from an HPT caused major upset in my household. DH and I were a lot better off when we just let those things go.
:-)
OP.
hi,
originalP... could i ask you about your BFP???
i will probably be doing me 6th iui this month.
i did 4 in 2007 with clomiphene, and 1 last month with a newish drug called Femarra.
the problem i have is my FS dosen't want to use any otherdrugs or do any other test's during the month cycle. he does a day 10 scan, i watch for a lh surge and when i think i get one he does the Insem.
i read that you have done nat cycles and wondered what type of cycle you got your BFP on? what drugs did you use? what test's did you have.
thanks,...i would love to try something a bit different this month to see if it would make a difference....
Thanks OriginalP, I totally agree with you re HPT, and to be honest it is really a mute point as AF arrived within seconds of doing the HPT. I was only asking as I have never in my life to my knowledge had a + pregnancy, and even though AF had already arrived, I was grasping at straws hoping just maybe there had been some sort of implantation for it to show faintly on the HPT, and have nothing to do with the trigger. From my research it does seem that the average for 5000iu to be out of your system is 10 days, so maybe I did have hcg enough to register on a sensitive HPT.
If this was the case it would would mean I was one step closer and give me some hope for the future, which TBH I am sadly lacking at the moment after 6 IVF ETs and 1 IUI. I guess just wishful thinking. Thanks for your advice.
This time AF is definitely here, so I now fully agree with OP, next time I will try not to do any HPT at all. I have learnt my lesson. Had BT tomorrow but now I suppose I wont have to go.
I had booster Pregnyl shots which were still in my system 5 days or so later after injection. If that helps at all.
I really hope you all get your BFP's. Try not to stress about the results too much if you can and wait until AF or your BT's.
:goodluck:
We will probably be moving onto ICSI now when we can afford it. Hopefully I will be lucky like you Janeo and fall pg naturally.
Thanks Loops12, mummawannabe and others for the supports and the advices.
a week after iui, i felt my nipples sore and hurts. Now i woken up everynight for pee and i found out that i peed alot and i feel hungry all the time..i dont know if anyone have this symptoms
Im away for a week holiday at the moment, try to get away from stress and take a break too..my final beta will be on monday next week. Oh soo nervious..
Big hugs for Loops12..keep ur chin up and never give up!
Congrats to Jane!
and good luck for everyone...
You know, I just want to send a big hug to everybody that's BFNd lately. God it's awful when that happens, and every successive one is a total blow to the heart. We calculated we had something like 32 BFNs. The ones after the IVF cycles hurt us the most because we'd seen the embryo.
What I really want to say is that this can work out for everybody. Look a Janeo's miracle!!! Last month we were lamenting the loss of her tube and now look what's happened!
Diamond and I talked a lot about clutching at straws last year. We both agreed a person should do what ever makes them feel supported, be that acupuncture or eating moutains of vitamins or whatever. Even HPTs, but only if you know you can handle the disappointment of a negative.
I've seen lots of people go BFP on this thread. All it takes is staying in the game and being there when your number comes up.
Love & light,
OP.
THanks girls still can't believe it... With everything we have been through in the past 3 yrs it doesn't feel real yet and probably won't until bubs is in our arms....... And yep OP only 5 weeks till next scan but im seeing my ob next Wed and he has a scanning machine in his room so im sure ill get another than which will be wonderful we lost our 1st Bubba at 8 weeks so being over 8 weeks when i see him and seeing that heartbeat will mean the world to us...
As OP said hold in their ladies it will happen, seriously 8 weeks ago i was lying in the hospital bed waiting to go for the operation to remove my right tube and im now 7 1/2 weeks pg... Life throws us curve balls unfortunately and we have to go with them as best we can, sit back and look at the positives in your life and know that your beautiful baby is just around the corner....... TAKE CARE ALL!!!!
Hey Janeo!
My naturopath put me on Vitex to help me get to 12 weeks - my progesterone was low and she was worried this might lead to miscarriage. I expressed my concerns about Vitex not being recommended for use during pregnancy and she said she had used it to treat hundreds of patients who were at risk of miscarriage, and never had any ill effects.
So, if you feel like it, I'd recommend Vitex for the next four weeks. Along with B6, zinc, lipeoc acid and kelp. You also need to keep going with folic acid until Wk12 to support nural tube formation. All these supplements support stable hormone production which is what you need right now to get you through the first trimester.
VERY good luck - I love miracle stories like yours!
:-)
OP.
Thanks OP.. I won't take the vitex my naturopath is very against it but thanks...... Ill grab some of those vitamins tomorrow thanks for that :) !!!
Thanks so much ladies
Your support and kind words is what keeps us going and sane. Thanks for such inspirational stories that make us want to hang in there and keep trying. Thanks to you guys I certainly wont be giving up. You guys are the best.
Good luck to all. And Janeo and OP with your pregnancies.
xo
Hi ladies,
Done the final blood test this morning and the result was negative. very dissapointed. but i not giving up..will continue this iui asap.
Anyway, good luck everyone
xx
Oh so sorry Olin . Its so hard isnt it - you have signs as if pregnant. But hang in there - Im positive we will all get there - might just be not meant to be at this very moment.
GL for where you go next. x
hi IUI girl's
i was hoping you could give me your feedback on having sex the night before an iui???
does your fs tell you to do or not to do???
i am having my 6th iui tomorrow and wondered if it would hurt the qaulity of the sample. we haven't had any sex since monday night at the moment, so i was thinking that maybe it would'nt hurt to give the pipes a bit of a clean out ..lol!!!
i know you have to write how long it's been since you last had sex on the sample pot, so it must make some sort of difference either way.
thanks girls
bye
i just found this on a site...it does make sense i suppose. :D
Should you have sex before or after IUI?
Having sex right before IUI is usually not recommended. Sperm count may be affected if a man has sex shortly before the procedure. It is best if the man does not have intercourse or masturbate for one or two days before the procedure. After having IUI, however, you can, and should, have sex as often as possible for 24 hours after the procedure. This way there are more sperm available to hopefully fertilize the egg.
Kittycat : I am surprised your f/clinic, hasnt advised you that it is best to abstain from BD, for two days before IUI or IVF. You would be better to wait until after tommorows IUI, IMO, and when you get home, bd to your hearts content, that was our advice. I was worried that when I had the IUI they would know (ifnwim) that we had dtd, beforehand. My FS recommended to BD the night of, and the morning after IUI .. GL for tommorow
thanks wouldloveabubba,
i think my clinic just expect me to know by now. this is my 6th iui, as i had 4 in 2007 and i last month. the one i had last month was a spare of the moment, and was only orgainsed that morning. i have read a bit about the subject, but the us sites seem to be very different from us.
but i will be doing as you said and waiting until tomorrow night!!!!
thanks
Thanks alot Loops12..
Im having a break now.. will continue the next treatment end of May.
how about you?
xx
Hey Kittykat,
Re the BDing, I guess it's tricky when you're IUIing with your partner's sperm. In our case we used a donor. Never the less, we BDd every second day from day 14 through to the day of the IUI (Day 19) even though DH's sample quality is shockingly poor. We just needed to feel like we'd covered all bases.
For you guys, lets say IUI takes place on Day 16 - kick off on day 12, go again Day 14, produce a sample for IUI day 16, and BD one more time on day 18. You do this because the guys live for 48 hours. However, the egg is only live for 12 hours. You can't know exactly when that is, so as long as you've got some guys in there for the 4-day most fertile period, all your bases will be covered.
To help know when you ovulated, monitor day of AF start carefully. If AF starts full flow before midday, that's day one. If it's after midday, the next day is day one. Count back 14 days from Day 1 - that will have been ovulation day. You can cross check even further by monitoring muscus. That day it's nice and clear and stretchy, that's ovulation day.
Of course, if you have other influencing factors like PCOS or endometriosis, things might not be as easy to monitor as this. Some people have 40 day cycles, which make things very tricky. But this is a good place to start.
:-)
OP.
For those folks who can't get or don't want artificial luteal support, try these two supplements:
Blackmores Vitex. It's based on Vitus Castus, which has an immediate and profound effect on hormone levels. A naturopath might give it to you in liquid form and this will be more potent. But the Blackmore's tablets are fine to use, and they only cost about $12.00.
Blackmores B6. The key b-group vitamin that supports the luteal phase. You need a luteal phase of 11-14 days for the endometrium to thicken up enough for implantation. B6 will help this. It will also help with PMS, and it's very good for people with PCOS (as is Vitex). I read that people taking B6 (without any obvious fertility problems) were pregnant within three months of starting B6. This was also the case for me.
Cheers,
OP.
OP: Lovely to have a chat, I havent spoken to you in a while :p
OP: I would be BDing every day, three times a day, if I could ;) however, in real life, twice a day around another IUI, I know the sperm lives for a couple of days, but if your hubby has a good sperm count, wouldn't you want to DTD as often as possible. What if you missed that 12 hour window when the egg is realised, b/c you thought there is enough sperm in the cervix, waiting around. If I had an IUI today, there is no way, I could wait two days until we did it again.
Just tossing different opinions around :p
LOL WLAB!!!! :p
Man if you feel like it, go for your life!!!
But seriously, you apparently need 48 hours to replish supplies, get the numbers up etc. I know how it feels around ovulation - you can convince yourself that not going for it is costing you somewhere, somehow. But all those scientists and naturopaths can't be wrong on this point - it's one of the few things they all agree on!!! You need a two day break between shots to get the good guys in good numbers.
Hey don't forget another important point - each 2ml of semen should have about 20 million guys in it. You only need 1 to penetrate the egg.
:-)
OP.
Hey,
Just wanted to pop in and say keep up all the hard work ladies! Fingers crossed for everyone of you!
