LT Trying to Conceive with IUI #5

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've posted...but I've been lurking! ;)

Sharon- I just noticed your BFP!! Congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!

Chellie - how are you doing? Did you get a BFP confirmed?? Hoping you are ok :hug:

Murraycod - welcome! I too am on my second IUI cycle and I too noticed that I did not respond the same to 50iu puregon on my second round. During my first cycle I produced three eggs and this time only one. With regards to your question, if you had a scan yesterday and your doctor said you hadn't reacted as well to the dose as last time, this probably means that your follicles weren't as big at this stage as they need to be prior to ovulation. When I had my scan my one folly was at 15mm and I was told that I would probably trigger on Tuesday some time, as they grow 2mm each day. A BT confirmed that I was not about to ovulate. I'm not medical, but I believe that the eggs need to be of a certain size before you will ovulate naturally, so if they're not there yet it's unlikely that you will before they grow bigger. If you're worried maybe you could call your clinic and ask?

AFM - I'm 8dpiui and will inject my final pregnyl for this cycle tonight. For the past two days I've had some mild cramping in my uterus (I think) which I'm :pray: is implantation. I don't ever remember feeling these cramps at this stage before, but I'm past the point of trusting my body enough to interpret it. All I can do is wait. Also found out on Monday that my VFF (very fertile friend) is six weeks pg with her third child. We had a bit of a falling out when she tried to liken her experience to mine when she said how upset she was when she didn't get pg first month like usual - it took her two! I had trouble sympathizing! :doh:

I don't feel as uptight today the week seems to be going quite quick for me, so scan on Friday morning and fingers crossed IUI Saturday!! I'm not looking forward to the TWW though, but I guess we all have to soldier through it.
Promised myself no POAS this try, last time 13DpIUI gor a BFP 6days post Pregnyl I should've known better.

Anyways Sal79 I :pray: that the number 2 is the lucky one for us both x

Well it was all bad news. I have been in hospital since monday nite and just got out tonight. I had severe abdo pains so went to the hospital, they ran tests did scans etc. some of them thought that it could still be a viable pregnancy and could have been a cyst causing the pains. Turned out it wasnt, it was an ectopic in my rite tube. So went into surgery yesterday where they were supposed to remove the tube. Find out they didnt remove it because both my tubes have adhesions on them. So this could be whats stopping us from falling pregnant. Thats the short story. Anyway just thought i would let you all no what happened. Thanks for all your support, it means alot.

Oh Chellie, I'm so sorry, that is devastating news. I know I can't offer sufficient words of comfort. I hope you are being well looked after at home and that you can get continued R&R at home. Look after yourself. :hug:

AFM I had 2nd IUI today so buming it on the couch having a rest afternoon, am a little crampy but didn't spot at all this time round. Gee I hope this works.

Good luck with your second IUI murraycod - great idea about spending the rest of the day on the couch! My nurse always says I can return to usual duties afterwards - so I go back to the couch! :rolleyes:

I'm 13dpiui today and thought AF was rearing her ugly head last night. Man, was I upset! So far this morning she hasn't arrived and I'm hoping she'll continue to stay away. I always seem to get AF on the exact day she's due, there's no hiding! :hide: I was so sure this would be our month as I had what I thought was implantation cramping earlier in the cycle. Maybe what my DH says is right - my ability to interpret my body is crap! :wall: He also has said we should wait before we think this cycle is all over - he is so wise...

I have anoth couple days off work so I'm going crazy in the kitchen (DH gunna eat like a king tonight!)
Just trying to keep my mind buisy, I love the fact that we are giving ourselves the best chances possible at doing IUI but each part of the cycle you seem to have to wait for something!!!
I don't have my hopes too high this time round. Last month was a textbook cycle, scans were great, endometrium thick, IUI on day 14, AF day 28.......
This month my body didn't react to the puregon as well as it did last month which meant quite a few more needles and scans.
Eggies looked good, endometrium...ok... IUI on day 18. Extra long cycle which means more and more waiting. Have Pregnyl1500iu on friday and monday.

I am totally new to this site and hope I am in the right spot. :redface:

I am ttc at 44 (advanced maternal age i keep getting told) :rolleyes:. This is our first try at IUI this month. I am gonal-f 150 at the moment and will be going for bt on friday to see what is happening.

Don't want to get my hopes up :pray: but really hope this works as time is flying by and will be our last chance before we are definatly too old. Luckily we have a beautiful dd who is 3 but would love for her to have a sibling. :D

Is there anyone who IUI works with first time??????? I know our chances are very slim but still can't help but hope.

I was the same when I had my first IUI last month, searching for any hope of the IUI working first go! But now am on my second:doh:
It's different with everybody, but I really do hope that you get your BFP first try.
And if not, we are all here to support you through your journey no matter how short or long it is.

Welcome and good luck Jilly. There is no reason why a first IUI won't be successful, and I hope yours will be. Did you conceive your daughter naturally? (if you don't mind my asking). All the best with everything - keep us updated. :)

AFM- AF came yesterday, right on schedule. I was very upset and downed a bottle of sparkling red to console myself. I'd have eaten a whole round of soft cheese too if I wasn't lactose intolerant!! :doh: Today I'm feeling pretty lousy (probably a combo of wine and sadness!), but have been on two walks in local national parks and have enjoyed the fresh air. We're gonna give our third and last IUI a go starting next week. Meanwhile we've made a time to speak to our FS about our options for IVF should we need it.

Sal79 - what a bummer that AF came :wall: I know every month we wait for the at least two weeks hoping and hoping and then bammm AF appears. Then we pick our selves up dust of the feelings of sadness and begin again knowing that one day AF won't come knocking. :pray:

Luckily for our first she was concieved naturally. But now our greatest hurdle is our age.

I am day 13 but had a bt this morning and still quite baseline. Unusally my AF went for 8 days this month. Usually it last for 5 - 6 days. I think it may have been cause they had a look to see if my tubes were ok (ouch by the way) and I seemed to have quite a lot of bleeding from that (is that too much info). Anyway I go to the fs on Monday for another bt and a scan. :crossfingers: that there is follicle there.

I gather pregnly and gonal-f are the same - FSH. I am on 150ui gonal-f.

I was on 50iu of Puregon each evening from day 5 to day 16, (FSH). Had 2 eggies, 1 @ 20mm and 2@17mm.
Pregnyl 5000iu trigger shot to make spontaneous ovulate day 17, IUI day 18,then 1500iu preg fri and this comming mon for hormonal support X

I'm now 5DPIUI.

Iv'e been getting the slightest period like cramping on and off today, sometimes quite sharp.
I know I prob wldn't feel anything at this stage, my mind does wonderfull things to me!! Plus the Pregnyl gives pregnancy symptoms so I can't trust anything!!! I have sore boobies and am peeing like a champ!!!!!

I have heard about this forum but did not realy think I needed anything like this but I have been 8 times 2 cycles cancled and on the 6th one now icsi cycle on 450 preg. and my dr has put me on DHEA which i found some intresting info on the net about to help women over 35 Iam 39 I am on my 4th day into this cycle and hope I get more than 5 folicles this time It seems strange but the first 3 times are nightmares in relation to your emotions but time seems to move on and you seemed to get used to the next cycle of drugs :wall: but at the end I have heard that women go 7-9 times and get preg.

I have no little ones and I am :pray: that this works I do not know how many sick days I can take off work and explain myself that is the most stressfull thing I have no more sick days I can take and now beging to just take leave without pay.....

I am now blabbing I to do not know of the abrev.. so please be kind If I am unsure of what is going on and have to ask..

I too don't have any sickies left;) and on wednesday i took an annual leave day!! But I too been taking leave without pay!
Dunno what we gunna do when we get our sticky bubs and start to feel morning sickness!!

I had my scan and bt today and even though I have been on gonal- f 150 ui not much is happening. Only one small follicle and the bt didn't show any signs of an egg being there.
Don't quite understand. Anyway they have cancelled this month and I have to see the FS and take it from there. They said that they thought this might happen as my FSH this month was 14 when last month it was 4. Will my FSH level stay high or does it change?

Does anyone know why I am not going to ovulate this month even with the drugs?? Is it unusual?? Does it mean that this will happen every month.

Lucie- Why did they cancel 2 of your cycles??

lucie - hi :hello: These forums are a wonderful support and I hope we can walk along this crazy road with you. Did you mention that you are doing icsi? Is that IUI or IVF?

AFM - we started IUI #3 on Monday and tomorrow I have my first scan to see how things are going. I'm a little nervous because for #1 we got 3 follies, but only one for #2, so I hope we have something to work with tomorrow. Other than that, I'm feeling quite complacent about this cycle and already a little sore (my ovaries already feel painful). We've already started looking into IVF "just in case".

Hi jilly - I use Puregon 50iu and then trigger with Pregnyl 5000iu and luteal phase support with two Pregnyl 1500iu. I've never used gonal-f and know nothing about it. Have you seen your FS yet to develop a plan?

October and November will be our 3rd and 4th try at IUI, then if no luck we are booked for IVF in January. Hope it doesn't get to that though, my EDD from my 1st pregnancy is middle of October and I was really hoping to be pregnant again by then, thinking it will make the month a little easier to get through :pray::rolleyes:

I have BT on Wednesday, but am going to POAS before the BT so I can prepare myself for the phonecall if it is the dreaded BFN.
Last month I got AF the morning of BT so I already knew what the result was.

I'm completely ignoring everything my body is doing at ATM, can't trust what my body tells me anymore!!

Murraycod - I am so sorry to hear that you have to go again. If AF hasn't arrived yet there may still be a chance. But realistically you know your body better than any test :comfort: This is such a rollercoaster. There is the hope, the damm waiting then devastation then we pick ourselves up dust off the disappointment and begin the cycle again. Well like Sal79 :crossfingers: for number 3. Like we said = threes a charm

While it's true that we know our bodies, sometimes we don't. Fertility treatment has robbed me of my ability to know and interpret my body. While it may be AF cramping, murraycod, don't give up hope until you have to. If it turned out to be AF, now that you are 14dpiui today, I'm sorry and :comfort:

Thanks for your well wishes for our current cycle. I had the insemination today and it was like a strange kind of torture. The nurse couldn't tilt my cervix the right way and took three, rather painful, attempts to get it right. She was getting flustered and I was crying, only my DH stayed calm and managed to problem-solve for us! What a gem he is. I've never had it hurt so much, but this cycle has already been more painful than the last 2, so I suppose it's consistent. BT on 13/10. Now for some couch time...

Just dropping in to see how people are going. Sal & Murraycod, if you can, try and give IUI 4-6 goes at the minimum. This is how long, on average, it takes to succeed with this treatment (if there are no extenuating factors like PCOS etc). Remember - for folks not going through assisted conception, they are asked to take 12 months to fall pregnant. That equates to 12 IUI goes. My own clinic allows 12 months to achieve a pregnancy with this approach, which is very telling, don't you think?

Also, in terms of knowing what your body is doing, because you can know, and every woman should know, get religious about charting your basal body temperature. To help you understand how to read the results, grab yourself a copy of Francesca Naish's book, Natural Conception.

Also, make sure you are taking B6. I swear by it.

Sal I'm so sorry to hear that your IUI hurt today, I hope that youre resting up and not crampy too much.

I do have a TMI question though..........

After the IUI insemination is it ok to get up straight away after or rest on the chair thingy for a couple mins, because I get rushed to get up and dressed straight after and I feel like it comes out................As soon as I stant up I feel like I wet myself and I get quite a large wet patch on my nickers, enough to have to change my pantyliner as soon as I get home. Just clear watery stuff.
Can the sperm fall back out through the cervix when you stand straight away?????// What is the wetness I'm feeling????????????

Sorry for the TMI but it has happened both times.

Sal yes today is 14DPIUI, and I have had STRONG AF cramps since 12dp. Thisafternoon I spotted the tiniest bit, only when I wiped, but nothing since, so I'm sure AF will greet me in the morning.

Thank god I have 2 days off to mope around!!

DH gave me a great pep talk thisafternoon after a HUGE cry outburst from my spotting, and I am oficially dusting myself off and am going to soldier towards another cycle, no3.

I hope and pray that 3 is a lucky number for all of us, may October bring some BFP's our way XXXXXX

OriginalP - thanks for popping in and for your advice. Our FS has advised that we give IUI three attempts before considering IVF and my DH (who looooves statistics :rolleyes:) thinks that three attempts are best for us. I've started B6 in the last cycle...so hopefully I'll swear by it too!

murraycod - sorry to hear about your cramping, as a sufferer of endo I sympathise! I wondered about your question too, and in fact asked my DH (who is a doctor) about it the first time it happened. He said that the wet stuff is most likely the lubricant used on the speculum, and I think is a similar medium to what they use to wash the sperm with? (but don't quote me on this last point, I can't remember the details). I don't think it's necessary to lie down for a prolonged period after an IUI like after usual intercourse when people swear by raising their legs in the air. We have utilised a far more high-tech version of legs in the air- we get a catheter to put the sperm right in the cervix!

AFM - I've been surprisingly emotional and cranky since Monday, I think slightly traumatised by the procedure. I feel a bit unwell too today, but am not sure whether it's due to MIL's unsafe kitchen procedures when cooking (or rather undercooking) chicken last night, or an anxiety-produced psychosomatic stomachache from worrying about the said chicken! I've got so much I should do today, but I just know I'll end up on the couch...again... :(

Hey murraycod - I lived in country SA for 3 months earlier this year and my DH took me on a surprise weekend trip to Mildura. It was great fun. We had a great lunch at Trentham's and then dinner at Stefano's and then a movie of my choice. I was spoiled! :) Maybe each FS visit of yours should include dinner at Stefano's?? Wouldn't that be great.

I'm 3dpiui today (barely in the 2ww) and going ok. This cycle I've promised myself that I will not attempt any interpretation of my body and symptoms. So far, so good. I'm hoping that I make it to BT this cycle and that AF doesn't beat me to it! Tonight I (read DH) will inject me with Puregon 1500iu. Usually they hurt a little, but I discovered with the trigger injection to leave it out of the fridge for 90 mins and then it didn't hurt a bit, so I'm going to do that again. Does anyone else get pain and redness at the injection site for a few days afterwards?

The only ones I could'nt get hold of was the bioceutical innatal and infamaze. Do you think they are neccessary to help improve quality of eggs since mine are soooooo old :doh:

I can have bach to back IUI with meds each month so I guess thats lucky for me, I'd hate to have to wait every second month it would kill me!!!!

Sal I have found that with the Pregnyl, esp the 5000iu trigger, that the slower it's given, the less it hurts. Like I mean really slow, my girlfriend (who is also a nurse) gives me the Pregnyl shots and she takes forever to give them, but way less pain.
I still get reddness and a bit of pain after it though.
The first time I got a Pregnyl shot the girl at work gave it quite quickly and it stung like acid.....

Tonight I have my 2nd lot of Puregon 50iu, have a long ways to go this month, just at the begining!! God help me......................:wall:

Jilly- We attend a very small clinic with only 2 nurses, so there isn't a lot of choice. I do like the nurse who did the procedure, although she often seems full of nervous energy that stresses me out. I prefer the other nurse, she seems calmer, but she was away on holidays. Good luck with your FS appointment tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.

murraycod- I found by my third cycle of Puregon I got very complacent with dialing the dose, so I ended up overdosing myself twice! Whoops :redface: I got only one follie, but it was the biggest one yet! :pray: that 3rd time is the charm for both of us.

AFM - I had my last pregnyl injection last night and boy was I hormonal afterwards! Today my BBs hurt like they never have before and I felt queasy this morning. I'm sure that will wear off as the drugs wear off and I'm sticking to my resolve to not analyze my symptoms this month.
