Hi All,
Hoping I can join in! Brief b/ground/ TTC # 2 for 16 months, 2 m/c whilst ttc # 2 (4 all up) prescribed clomid (just finished rd 3) - but with no monitoring... Is that normal? OBS said to come back after 6 mths ttc on clomid if no success (viable pg), but now I am thinking of just going back & demanding a referral to a FS or can I get a referral from my GP to a FS?
Sorry for the 'me' post. Just feeling gutted since AF showed up today :(
Hi RiChiChi - welcome!
AF arriving is never fun..always makes me go why why why???? In answer to your question, my GP gave me a referral to a FS, who has been great. FS said I could try 2-3 rounds of clomid and if that didn't work it would be time for a lap (which I had on Thursday). The first round of clomid was monitored with an internal U/S and bloods on day 21 to check ovulation. Because all worked well with Oing on round 1, I didn't need any tests on round 2. FS said there was no point wasting more time on clomid if there was something wrong with my plumbing, so that's why I had the lap.
Before going to my FS I had tried sooo many natural therapies (herbs, acupuncture, kinesiology, reiki etc etc etc) and no luck. Even though I had no luck, these therapies, especially yoga, did help improve my health and wellbeing. I believe these therapies do work for some people, so have you tried seeing a naturopath / Chinese Doctor?
Anyway, after 16 months of trying, you are certianly within your rights to ask for a referral to a FS. If you want to bypass your OB, just get a referral from your GP. Not sure where you live, but if you're in Melbourne, David Wilkinson frm City Fertility is lovely.
Good luck!
Thanks for your reply Mez Moz. Sounds like we have taken similar paths down the ttc route.... I had the prog test on CD21 after the first round of Clomid, which shows I 'O'd' and OBS kept the dose the same, but no internal u/s. I have also tried natural therapies, starting with a Naturopath - whom I saw whilst ttc # 1, I went back but no luck, so I switched to a Chinese Herbalist / Accupuncturist (known to 'support' women during IVF) but I stopped going as ttc was becoming a 'chore' - (I did the herbs & accupuncture) I also do yoga once a week & have started seeing a personal trainer twice a week as well as a food diary to lose weight etc....
I will call my OBS Monday & see how far an appointment is away - he is really busy & go from there. I am in Melbourne SE suburbs. I assume David Wilkinson is in the CBD? Does anyone know of anyone at Monash Clayton worth seeing?
I am thinking I may need a lap - perhaps for blocked tubes as previous u/s showed that all was clear after my last mc. I would also like DH to get checked out - he is 39 this year.
Will be back to catch up with everyone properly once my head space is clear...!
RhiChiChi the only thing I can say for Monash Clayton is if ur overweight (like I am) dont bother they were really rude to me even after I dropped 11kgs in 2 weeks and I had to fight like anything to get put on clomid. I dont thinks theres a harm in trying if u want to but I will be finding a different FS, if I need it next month, cos I really dont want to go back
Rhichichi,
I was referred to dr Gronow at Melbourne IVF and he's been good. My GP said anyone from melbourne IVF is good. I know it's annoying to have to travel to the CBD, but for a nice doctor, I'm happy to do it. Have you had a saline u/s? I've also had a number of miscarriages in the past year, and I just had a scan last week that showed a polyp in my uterus which can cause miscarriage apparently. It was expensive, but if it means I can get pregnant and stay pregnant, it's worth it I suppose.
got1want1more, I can't believe you were treated so poorly! Clomid is often prescribed for women with Polycystic Ovaries (which I have) and we are often on the heavy side (which I am too!). I hope you find someone who can help.
Hopefully everyone else is going well (and recovering from your surgeries).
Bec
Bec I have PCOS too and I eventually got my prescription for the clomid
I am in the outer south east suburbs of Melb and I will be looking for a FS if next month is not successful
I know of 1 called Hayden Najaa or something like that and he is next to Monash Clayton and is supposed to be good. Haven't seen him but I might give him a shot
RiChiChi, glad to hear you practice yoga. Yoga has helped me manage the emotional roller coaster of TTC so much that I decided to do my teacher training and now teach in South Yarra studio. If you have the chance to do yoga in a studio (rather than a gym) and take on it's body / mind / spirit teachings, you may find it offers more than just exercise and stretching. Maybe i should start teaching TTC yoga classes!
Deffers get DH checked out - hasn't he had a test yet?
I had a mini meltdown yesterday - not sure if laps induce crazy hormones? I felt like I had PMT x 100! I'm looking forward to Thursday when I get my full results and the green light to TTC again.
Good luck Mezmoz, hope all goes well at your appointment!:pink-babydust:
AFM, currently on day 28, of my ridiculously long 35 day cycle. Very sore BB's and horrifically tired and grumpy. Maybe a good sign, but not counting my chickens yet. I have been sure I was UTD before only to be let down when AF arrived. :crossfingers: though!
Hope everyone's well,
Bec
Oh my gosh what pain you must have been in. I will def not take any laxettes then. At least you know you have clear pipes now lol.
To the ladies with PCOS I also have PCOS. I'm currently CD33/10DPO on my 6th round of clomid. For the last 2 cycles I've had no monitoring as it is just to keep me regular untill my lap.
All the other 4 cycles I've just had the 21 day BT to see if I had actually O'd.
Becnxavi - I have 35 day cycles as well. I also get soore BB's as well in the 2WW.
Got1want1more - Well, best not bother with Monash Clayton then cos I am classified obese. My gf is obese and she went to Monash - go figure.... Why do they have to be so rude? Goodness knows that we are under enough 'stress' ttc not to be burdened with other thoughts that aren't positive.
Bec - No, I haven't had a saline u/s - I will ask for one of those. I actually just re-booked with my GYNO/OBS to ask for a referral to a FS, I can get in on the 8th Feb, which suits as I am away next week. On a seperate note, I hope those signs are positive!
Mez - I do yoga in a studio. Mary, the yoga teacher is really good and she also runs a half day (?) session in conjunction with a Goddess Playshop (mind/spirit stuff) that I am hoping she runs soon again as I missed the last one as I was away.
I am not sure what effect laps have on hormone levels as I haven't had one. Best of luck for Thursday
Porsche - I hope you are doing ok
Hello to anyone I have missed or who is just lurking.
Julia

I am stuggling atm ladies
I am getting very depressed I still haven't O'd, guess its going to be a referal to a FS next month (1 thats not in monash)
We've also been having troubles with someone trying to cause problems between me and DH (hasn't worked but still stressful)
I hope everyone else is well and goodluck to everyone for this month
Got1want1more...if it feels good, have a big cry and let all your emotions out. Find some way of releasing. Something I find that really helps is just focusing on my breath, deepening and lengthening my breath. And sometimes in privacy I shout out "Blahhhhhhhhhh" at anyone/thing I'm annoyed with to get rid of my yuck feelings. (Ok I'll stop with all my yoga teachings now!)
It's not such a bad thing to be going to a FS - at least you'll know you are in the hands of an expert in this area. I struggled for ages with the fact I was taking the western medicine path and seeing a FS (being the big hippy I am) but now I am so glad that I did because I feel as though I'm actively doing something to bring us closer to having a bubba. Dr Wilkinson from City Fertility (St Kilda Road) is so lovely, so if you can make the trek into the city I would recommend him.
M
Thanks Mez it helps to have people that understand
Thanks for the advice with dr wilkinson I have a GP appt tomorrow so I might see if I can get a referal and try to get an appt with him as the travel doesn't worry me
Got1want1more - Mez has given some great advice..... Keep a united front with your DH - sounds like this person is nasty & might continue to try to cause problems.
Does anybody use OPK's whilst on Clomid? I haven't bothered since we DTD every second day between CD 10 - 21 but now I am thinking I am not 'Oing' or maybe not until really late and maybe we need to DTD prior & after these dates too? Gosh it can be a chore though....
Hi RiChiChi
I used OPKs when on clomid (pee test & maybe baby) as well as taking my temps (all systems go!) but found that I had full on O pains which let me know it was time to get on with DTD. I couldn't rely on mucous at all because I had hardly any. If you take your temps every day then you'll definitely know when you've O'd.
I know what you mean about it being a chore! DH and I DTD every second day from day 15 until my temps indicated I'd O'd, which on clomid was usually around day 18 - 19. And if we could find the time, we'd DTD every day from around day 17. I can't wait until I'm UTD so DTD can just be about having a good time instead of procreation!!!!
I am on clomid and using OPK's (but no luck as yet)
Thanks for the support ladies it does help
I am still feeling very down but I know DH and I r fine and 1 way or another baby will make 4
hey lovelyz,
to the new comers, WELCOME! i hope this site is helpful to you as it has been to me!
atleast through these difficult times, we have others that we can chat to knowing they understand exactly how you feel..
To the ladies trying for their second, all the best! im sure your little ones give you courage to keep on going..
im on my 4th cycle of Clomid, im hoping its working.. i have more hope this time around, no real reason why. As i have read about the ladies with PCOS who are alittle over weight, i feel your pain :( ive tried so hard & it discourages me as i feel i never go anywhere.. we haveto keep trying
Mez Moz, how are you feeling now hun? i have them meltdowns all the time, i actually went off my brain at my husband yesterday, last night i was like "what the hell.. where did that come from" .. luckily for me he is real patient & understanding..
lately ive been getting real high, or really low.. i can cry so easily!
hey keli! im well, how've you been? whats your next step, in this whirl wind of emotions?
Byexx
Goodluck with ur 4th cycle Jess
I still haven't O'd but I got my referal and rung and made an appt for mid March (which is better than I thought I would get) its not too badly priced too better than my gyno I had when I was pregnant with DD so :crossfingers: I wont need it if this month and next dont work for us
Hi ladies,
got1want1more- it's awful when you feel you can't do anything that helps. Seeing an FS might help you feel as though you are taking affirmative action, and that can be invigorating and give you the strength to go on. I found making the appointment was an enormous relief!
jess85- I get shocking pains for days when I ovulate! As bad as period pain sometimes. I'm always a little scared to take Nurofen incase I'm UTD. All in the name of the prize though, hey? At least we know when we ovulate!
Mezmoz- very sound advice. I've found that acupuncture has help me heaps, not so much physically, but emotionally. It helps me relax for that half hour or so to feel like I'm preparing the old womb for what may be!
RhiChiChi- I used OPK's after I stopped having scans to check for follies. I actually found I was ovulating much later than normal (day 21 or 22) and we'd been aiming for day 14! Since I've been doing that acupuncture the EWCM (TMI!) has improved and now I can tell when I ovulate using that and the o pains. OPK's where my hero for awhile though!
Everyone else, I hope you're going well! :pink-babydust: to you all.
I'm anxiously awaiting Monday when AF is due, and still haven't heard when I'm getting the polyp removed. Nervous wait!
Bye,
Bec
Looks like I might start taking my temps again. I stopped as they were all over the shop and ff was changing my dates constantly, so it got confusing. I get no EWCM anymore or O pains (used to) but not sure if the lack of EWCM is a side effect from the clomid? I heard taking Robitussin helps in that department?
Mez & Bec - Interesting that you are Oing later in your cycles, I think that might be happening to me as we were really good with the DTD during the time we were told to.... Might have to go back to DTD every second day for the whole cycle (ugh!)
Better go to bed, it's getting late
x
RhiChiChi, I'd give the OPK's a whirl. If you get them from the chemist you can get a pack of 7 with a HPT as well. You can also buy them in bulk online. It's worth knowing when you o, it makes the whole BDing thing let tedious. My FS said once you get a positive on the OPK, DTD for the next 3 nights (usually). AS much as I keep M/Cing, I've been pregnant twice in 7 cycles, so the process must work!
All the best,
Bec
just a quick note while i go through all the posts, i am in gippsland and i see Dr Mac Talbot he is in Monash IVF which is in Richmond i think but he comes down here also and i think he is wonderful. I am also overweight and he has only mentioned it once and that was basicly that all the Drs say to lose weight but he also said that losing the weight is easier said than done and has not mentioned it again. I have had no negatives about him at all.
now i will leave a proper hello and welcome to the new ladies in the thread, hope you guys find it very helpful :)
i cant remember who commented on things happening fast for me (sorry) but yeah i am feeling the exact same thing we seen the dr about the actual ivf in december and fingers crossed everything goes to plan i could be pregnant on feb 13th!!!!! pretty exciting, i have started my meds to help thiken my lining and my cousin started the nose spray today and needles tomorrow so all go at this stage
i started taking elivat vitamins last week, i advise anyone that starts taking them to definately take them with food. within 10 minutes of taking it i was throwing up :( i think i have an aversion to vitamin tabs though in the past they have made me feel queezy but never throw up, since i take them with food no probs at all.
i need to make sure i pop in more i missed out on heaps, take care ladies
Hi ladies
Tammara that's so exciting that things are moving for you with IVF. I have my fingers crossed for you. Feb 13 isn't far away!
Re OPKs, I buy them in bulk from ebay - so much cheaper compared to the chemist.
I got the results from my lap today - everything was 100% in perfect working order. So in a way it's good news, but it still means that it's a mystery as to why we haven't conceived. My FS has said to try for another 3 months on clomid and if no luck, then we'll need to turn to IVF. So I'm really hoping that it happens for us soon. Not sure if I'm ready to do IVF in 3 months, even though I'm so desperate to have a bubba. Guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Porsche, make sure you get your lap pics from your doc - it's not every day you get to see your uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes!
good to hear that everything is fine with everything but i also get the frustration of why it isnt hapening. lets hope you dont have to wait long for the bfp :)
Porsche, make sure you get your lap pics from your doc - it's not every day you get to see your uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes!
Wow I didn't know they could do that lol. That will be very interesting to see. I'm apparently 2nd on the list for Monday. I'm getting really nervous now.
How many cycles of Clomid have you already done? I'm glad you are in the clear. It's a load of your shoulders at least.
Hi Porsche
I was second on the list too and had my op at around 8:30am. There wasn't much of a wait. DH stayed with me until just before they wheeled me in, so see if you can have some support stay with you for as long as possible.
I'd done 2 rounds of clomid before my lap and once AF arrives I'll be back non clomid but only 25g dose, so hopefully thee side effects will be minimal on such a low dose.
Good luck on Monday - you'll be fine. The op was much less of a big deal than I thought it was going to be.
Thanks for the info and well wishes. DH is going to stay with me and I think he'll hang around with book in hand lol.
Hopefully you don't get many side effects on the lower dose. I'm going to be on my 7th cycle when AF arrives in the next couple of days. I feel FS waited too long to have this lap booked for me. But any way not much I can do about it now.
I have an appointment with QFG on the 17th as well. I'm tired of the emotional heart ache each month. I need to be more pro active.
Tammara - oh, wow! I will be hanging for your post on the 13th! That is awesome news. Best of luck
Mez - That is good news about all being clear... GL on the Clomid. I hear ya about the side effects - I am on my last day of it & the hot flushes are shocking atm. I am at work but feel like I need a really cold shower! I have been drinking so much water my kidneys can't cope!
Today is my last day of work - I am taking Long Service Leave to concentrate on ttc - getting healthier (diet & exercise) etc.... I am hoping the break from work will assist and I fall pg whilst on my leave :)
Better go do some work.
Have a great weekend all
x
Hi girls!
tammara- how exciting that IVF cycle is getting so close. Hopefully it all goes well for you. Fingers crossed!
mezmoz- I'm glad your lap didn't show up any nasties, but it's annoying not knowing why. I hope you get your answers soon.
Porsche-good luck for you lap
RhiChiChi- I really hope your break is just what you need. GL with your TTC journey, and enjoy your leave!
Any floaters- hope all is well with you.
AFM- I'm day 34 today, 13 DPO. I did an early HPT this morning and BFN. I fiugured as much. So, AF should be here right on time tomorrow. Oh well, back to FS to see what follows 7 rounds of clomid...
Good luck to you all this month, I hope it's your BFP time,
Bec
Hi ladies,
Hope you don't mind me joining your site but you are all so similar to me.
I went off pill Dec 08 and diagnosed PCOS in April 09. I did 6 cycles of clomid (3 at max dosage) with no ovulation. I am now in 3rd month of naturopathic treatment but still no ovulation.
I have just seen an excellent FS, Gab Kovacs, who recommends FSH LH injections or laparoscopy surgery to burn the follices. I am going the surgery option.
He can get me in Thursday (4 Feb)! So I am freaking out a bit but reading your posts helps.
Unfortunately DH has to work Friday & Saturday so my mum would have to come and pick me up Friday morning from home and drive me 30mins to her house. Looking for advice...
- the day after the operation are you ok enough to be driven for 30mins?
- Do you have to lie down all the time or can you sit up?
- my FS says work Monday after Thursday op would be no problem. What do you think? I have a big meeting Monday
- also... have a good friend's 40th on Friday night, assume that even contemplating that is out of the question?!
I realise my questions seem a bit self absorbed but I was only told today that I could have the op on Thursday - hence the calendar hasn't quite been cleared properly! I could wait a month but hey, that's another month on top of the 18months so far and it is never going to be an ideal time. I have until Tuesday afternoon (2nd) to decide!
Any advice appreciated!
Especially the golf balling has worked for people with PCOS that you know of!
Thanks,
Kim
Sorry girls - thought I would gate crash - was on this forum this time last year and still like to see what is happening.
Fingers crossed Tammara - it must be your time now.
MezMoz - just a quick note, i was on 50 mg clomid for 5 months, it was working ie I was Oing but it still ranged from anywhere from 14 to 23 days so was using OPOAS tests - which was how I found out where I was up to. Anyway, after 5 months had my lap/hys/dye and came out to find out it appeared nothing wrong, which was great but very disappointing. My FS said that I may have had "gunk" in my tubes and that is why they give you 3 months to fall again as your tubes are all clean, otherwise next stage. Anyway, the first month after I was back on clomid 50 mg and fell (we had been trying for 21 months in total by that stage). So hope this gives you some hope.... I have just under 8 weeks until I am due.
Good luck girls.
hi 20094me
i had the ovarian drilling (golf balling) in october/november last year but unfortunately for me it didnt improve anything. But in regards to after the op i was feeling fine that evening a little drowzy but i dont even remember taking pain killers at all. I would deffinately not rule out going to the party friday night, and work monday should be no problem at all.
The surgery is very (cant think of the word lol) it not big if that makes sence i think i only had two places where they went in - one with 3 small cuts less that 5mm and the other only had 2 little cuts the same size.
Personally i had no problems at all but i did have my gal bladder taken out in july so compared to that it was easy lol
i think you will be fine just dont push yourself, you will know if your doing too much.
hope this helps put your mind to rest
Ladies!
Bec - thanks for your post - it does give me hope! I'm really hoping that it happens for us now that I've had a lap. We've booked a trip to Broome in May, figuring it will be good timing if we have to do IVF (having a break before heading into it) or we'll be UTD! It just seems crazy that if I'm fine and DH is fine, then why no baby!
Kim, re your lap I had mine on 21 Jan. In answer to your questions...
Yep, you can be driven for 30 minutes as long as your driver isn't speedy gonzalos and takes it easy. Don't leave the hospital until you feel good enough to walk to the car though (nurses won't let you leave until you feel OK anyway).
You get some heavy duty painkillers during the lap that last for a while after, and then you'll be given pain killers to take yourself. Don't wait until you feel a lot of pain to take one. Pop a pill as soon as you feel slight discomfort. Read my earlier post about laxatives and pain killers - don't take them unless you really have to!
You can certainly sit up after the operation, although I found lying on the couch the best position when i got home form the hospital, probably coz I was so drugged up still!
My FS also does all his laps on Thursday so you are right to go to work on Monday. You'll be fine to go to work unless you are a professional acrobat -then I'd wait a bit longer. If you just require your mind for the big meeting, then you will be fine.
See how you feel on the Friday night for your friend's 40th. I actually had the most pain on the Friday because I was just relying on popping pills to manage the pain and probably didn't take them as soon as I should have. You might feel like dropping in for a quiet drink, but you won't feel like kicking up your heels and partying until the wee hours. Hope this all helps.
Porsche - hope your lap went well. Do let us know how it went when your back online.
Thanks guys. I have decided to go ahead with Thursday. Freaking out a bit but your posts are reassuring!
Hi Ladies
I'm back. Lap went well yesterday. I'm only in a little pain from the incision sites. I've got 2 little cuts and they glued them Yay!!
Apparently my tubes are "all good". I guess that means they are clear. I'm not seeing FS for another 6 weeks. Is that normal? I'm guessing if it was urgent she would want me to come in sooner? That means I have to post pone my appointment with QFG for at least 6 weeks.
FS hasn't given me any more instructions on what to do now. I'm still on the clomid and this is now cycle 7. So I guess we just carry on trying?
Hi 20094me, good luck with your lap on Thursday. Don’t want to freak you out but just wanted to tell you about my experience with my lap as it seems to have been quite different to the other ladies. I had mine 3 weeks ago on Thursday. I was off work for 10 days afterwards with a full medical certificate from my surgeons. I was in a lot of pain all weekend. Was not able to sit in a car until the Saturday night, but I think if you need to then you will be ok doing that (it’s amazing what the body will do when you need it to). It has taken me a long time to recover. I don’t feel that my mind is 100% still, I know it sounds strange but I have trouble spitting out what I want to say (more than usual) and forming sentences that make sense sometimes (these can all be side effects of the aesthetic though). I had golf balling, dyes test and looking for endo done. Please don’t let my experience freak you out, the procedure itself was totally fine, the nurses were over the top lovely, informative and very very helpful. I too would suggest not taking laxatives unless you absolutely need to, I have not gone into detail on this site but let me just say it was not fun (I feel your pain Mez). Good luck with Thursday and I hope you have some answers very soon.
Hey Mez, sorry to hear you don’t have any answers. At least there is nothing seriously wrong though and so many women say that they fall just after having a lap, so hopefully that is true for you, me & Porche. I think I ovulated yesterday (with no Clomid) so I am seeing my gyno on Friday (which is day 21) and I will get her to send me for a BT to make sure. Good luck with your next round of Clomid.
Hey Tammara, I can’t believe how quickly this has all gone for you, it is really encouraging for me though. At least I know if we end up down that path we won’t be waiting for months and months to begin. Good luck with implantation, hopefully it will go as well for you as it did for frustrated, 1st time around, I have my fingers crossed for you.
Hi to all the newbie’s, this site is a life savour. Even if you don’t post all the time it is so good to come in and read about everyone’s journeys, it really reminds me that I am not alone, doesn’t matter what happens someone else has been through exactly the same and someone will after me as well.
Babydust to all.
Love Keli xxoo
Hi Porche, I was told to see my gyno in 4-6 weeks after my opp, but I have booked in to see her earlier in the hope that she has my biopsy results by then, I will call the day before to confirm.
