LTTTC Two Week Wait 2010 #2

Aargh - I am starting to go nuts with the waiting. And all of the symptoms I was feeling the past few days (cramping, queasiness) have gone away today. I know they were probably from the Crinone anyway, but I'm feeling like the disappearance of my symptoms is a bad sign. Anybody have this happen then get a BFP? As it is, I'm bracing myself for a BFN on Thursday. I'm almost tempted to POAS tomorrow morning and put myself out of my misery, but I'm scared to see the answer. And I'd hate it if I got a result (good OR bad) that didn't match Thursday's BT, so there doesn't seem to be any point. This is the most down I've felt during the whole TWW. Any positive words would be appreciated.

I did it: I succumbed and peed on a stick this morning. It was an old test -- almost expired -- that came with an ovulation predictor kit I was using last year, and my second pee of the morning, not my first. So maybe the test isn't working properly anymore. But I got a faint positive line! Please keep your fingers crossed for me that it sticks till my BT on Thursday!!

KitKat - I have to admit I am not a POAS girl, but I will have my FX that it was right and that Thursday shows a nice BFP for you!

We had our FET today with two blasts. The doc said they looked just perfect - yep heard it all before but here's hoping that our second transfer whilst on Prednisolone will be THE ONE. Blood test due 21 May.

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself as after a very long drawn out process (partially due to the clinic stuffing up blood test results) I am finally on my first IVF 2ww.

I am doing this as a single woman and started the journey over 3 years ago with looking for a donor and then doing donor insemination and now doing IVF. I have no known fertility issues and concieved my 13 yr old daughter by accident, so hadn't counted on this being so hard.

I had egg pick up on Monday and Embryo transfer on Wednesday 12th May. It was a 4 cell 2 day old embie which I'm told is good. I'm trying to stay positive as I know some people do get pregnant first go... but it's hard because you don't want to end up too devastated when you get a BFN (like I did in Jan from my last round of donor insemination).
It also looks like I will have no frozen embies from this cycle so if it doesn't work I would have to start from scratch again... so I'm praying this works.

Have taken today off work to just rest. I'm booked in for a blood test on the 26th of May. Currently on Crinome... so I assume this might stop my period coming when it would have been due (which would be the 24th)? Anyone know?

I was planning on going away for part of the 2ww so I would be distracted but it hasn't worked out that way.
I can relate to the comments made about it being hard when you know you have "concieved" as there is a fertilized egg inside you but it's just a matter of praying it attaches. Does anyone know how long it normally takes to attach (if it is going to do it)? I know in horses it takes almost 3 weeks but I don't know about humans.

Hi to everyone else.

I've written a longer note in the "main" TTC thread, so just a quickie here. Had my BT this morning. I don't know how I'm going to make it to the phone call this afternoon! I've been naughty and peed on a stick 2 more times -- yesterday (in the ladies' room at the shopping center right after I bought the test -- classy, NOT!) and early this morning. Both were BFPs. So now I've had BFPs on the HPT 3 days in a row. (By the way, these are the first positive HPTs I've ever had in my life! So I'm kind of excited whatever happens . . .) Also, I've had a lot of cramps over the past few days, which is either a good sign or just a side effect of the Crinone. Anyone have any thoughts on the likelihood of this being a chemical PG when I've had consistent positive tests over the past 3 days? I know it doesn't really matter now since I'll have my BT results hopefully in a couple of hours, but nothing like a little speculation to make the time go quicker! Besides, I'm trying to get myself prepared for bad news after being dumb enough to go the POAS route - LOL.

What about the rest of you -- any signs that might be signalling one way or the other? (Again, I know, most symptoms can probably be explained away, but if you're like me, you're probably hyperanalyzing them anyway!!)

I had my FET this morning so I'll be sticking around here for the next two weeks. Unlike the rest of you I'm only on asprin this time so hopefully I wont drive myself crazy with symptons etc. I've got the rest of the week off work and just plan to relax and let my little embie do its thing

Hahaha kitkat I'm glad I too am not the only one who has used the shopping centre loos for POASing!!

Guess what? It's a BFP!!!! Beta 260, which the nurse said was a nice high level. (I really have no idea what it means other than what she told me, as I've never been pg before.) I still can't believe it, and probably won't really believe it until a couple more confirmatory tests over the next two weeks.

I hope you guys don't mind if I still peek in here from time to time and check on you. I'm praying that each of you gets your BFP this cycle. I saw that earlier in the thread the BFPs were coming in 3s, so hopefully we can beat them and have at least 4 of us get our BFPs this time around!!!

Hi Ladies,

Just to introduce myself I had my first Embryo transfer on 11/10 - and only 3 days later am desperate to know! Not sure if I feel weird because of the Crinone, a possible period :wall: or BFP...

It is great to find some ladies going through the same thing as I have just moved to the Gold Coast and don't have any girlfriends here yet...so finding it hard!

NStap welcome good to have you in here. Taking support during the TWW can play games with your mind. I've previously taken cronin and from the experiences from other women you can feel like your getting AF even though it may be a BFP. Try to relax and not read much into it although it could also be you little embie burrowing in for the nesxnext 9 months. Sorry I could offer more but remeber your not alone there are heaps of us here to offer support

AFM so far really relaxed and have spent quite a bit of the past 2 days taking it easy I find the first week easy but then the 2nd drives me crazy

NSap, I had my first embryo transfer this week too but I'm not really feeling anything except still a bit sore and bloated from after egg pick up (which was on Monday). I'm also on crinone.

I'm wondering if others have felt negative during their 2ww. I mean I'm not feeling down or depressed or anything I just kinda feel no different to any other 2ww from donor insemination (which all resulted in BFN). I sort of feel empty. I'm trying to stay positive and keep talking to my belly and praying but I almost feel like it's too late... like the embryo is already gone. Does any one know if it wasn't going to implant how long before it would leave the body? I had my transfer on Wed (2 day old embie).

Thanks Terry...feels so much better to be on here and have the support...and you are right about the Crinone.. Very unfortunate that at a time like this we have to take something that is 'very likely to make you feel flat/sad' as my nurse advised. Even with that in mind it is hard to stay rational.

Hey Dreamrise...not sure when it would leave if not implanting...but I do know how you feel...about being negative - sorry you feel like this too..

I guess all we can do is hope/pray/visualize a healthy baby....fingers crossed for us all xx

Hey there Dreamrise, if you had a 2-day transfer on Wednesday, then the earliest that your embie could possibly implant would be tomorrow, and maybe not till Monday or Tuesday (or even later if it's a late implantation), and then it would take several more days before there was enough HCG being produced for you to have symptoms. And if it didn't implant, only THEN would it disintegrate and flush away. Again, the earliest that would happen would be Tuesday or so. So your lack of symptoms is pretty meaningless, it seems, esp. since you are not SUPPOSED to feel any symptoms until several days after implantation. Any symptoms that you did feel at this point would likely only be the Crinone, anyway, since that is the only chemical that could be producing symptoms at this point.

Just to give you and NStap and the rest of you who are feeling down some hope (damn Crinone!), I wanted to point out that last week, I, too, had a point in time when I was feeling no symptoms, and I turned out to have my BFP. Everything I read said that one of my first symptoms would be sore boobs, but my boobs felt absolutely normal. Zero, zip, nada different. Guess what? All of the sudden this morning -- 18 whole days past my egg pickup and 2 days after my positive BT, I guess I finally have enough HCG in my system because I finally started feeling some twinges in my boobs right when I woke up (and now they (th twinges, not my boobs) are gone). And it's only the past 2 or 3 days that I seem to be peeing more. Not much else in the way of symptoms, either, so, again, remember that it ain't over till it's over and your lack of feeling anything doesn't necessarily mean anything at all! FX for you that this is your month! :hug::hug::hug:

So I have my BT in exactly a week...as annoyingly my day 16 is on Sat - the extra 2 days will seem like a lifetime. Did have sore boobs and now not so much which is similar to earlier this year when I had an ectopic so not feeling optimistic. Also stupidly POAS on the 3rd and 4th day following ET - have no idea why just thought a faint line might give me some hope ( when I had an ectopic a got a faint line only days after I had implantation bleeding)...anyway just wanted to write in and Say Hi to anyone else out there feeling the same x

AFM: FET with a 5 day Blasty on Thurs (13/5) ...have spent so much time searching for Early Preg Symptoms but know nothing would be present for me just yet.
Have decided to def go HPT's as of this Thursday which is 12 days post fertilisation - cause i know i'll go insane waiting for AF or BT.
Am not on any meds, no crinone or anything (!!) so really feeling like i should be doing something and HPT's are all i can think of!

What's the count down for everyone else, there's seems to have been a fair few BFP's lately so who's up next??
Hmmm now I've allowed myself the BB distraction so better get back to work before i get caught lol.

Well 8 days now till my blood test. Had a really bad day at work yesterday (found out that rumours my department might close down next year are true so no chance of my job continuing). I found myself trying really hard not to get too upset as I'm so conscious of how stress can effect your fertility. I'm so desperately hoping that this embie attaches because I'm not sure I can justify spending the money to try again from scratch if I might not have a job next year. If this embie sticks then atleast the timing would be good because I wouldn't need to feel guilty about taking some time off work to stay home with bubs as I wouldn't have a job to be going to anyway. My current contract ends 30th of December... so I'd have a month at home (unemployed) before bub was due.

Thanks for the advice KitKat regarding symptoms and when the embie might attach. I'm trying to stay positive. I recently read another account of a woman who got pregnant first IVF cycle so I'm focusing on that and hoping I am just as lucky.

I told a work colleague about my IVF attempt yesterday (no one else at work knows). After hearing about my job I just needed to share with someone. She was very positive and shared the news that she has just found out she is going to be a grandmother for the 2nd time (she's my parents age). She told me she'll keep her fingers and toes crossed for me regarding the baby and my job.

Thanks for the advice about symptoms KitKat72. After my dtim cycle I had lots of symptoms; incredibly sore breasts, a little nausea, tiredness, cramps. Turns out it must have been the crinone. This time around I'm on progesterone pessaries and except for headaches and tiredness before the transfer, I don't have any of those other symptoms now. I guess I felt more reassured (albeit uncomfortable) last round because at least I could feel that my body was reacting to something. Good to know that people with BFP's didn't necessarily feel much during the TWW.

I am with QFG, does anyone know how much it is to do IVF. And do you have to pay up front? How hard must that be.

Angela, not sure with the cost, it's different at each place. I don't have Private HI, but Repromed in Adelaide charge just under $8000 for a full stim cycle, I think you get around $1500 back after medicare.
But good luck with your IUI, no you are not waisting your time honey, I know of many girls that got their pregnancies through IUI, and not their first try, took them a while.

I'm feeling pretty normal ATM, not much to go crazy over yet, am only 1 day into my TWW today.
Had ET yesterday, fat little 4 day blastie on board, have 18 other embies still growing, won't find out how many blasties get frozen untill I receive the letter in the mail this week.

This will be a totally drugged up TWW for me,
Prognova x2 a day
Crinone pessarie each night
Prednisolone x3 a day
Asprin x1 a day
This month I was diagnosed with NKcells in my uterus.
Hoping the prednisolone and asprin fix that. I was also on Doxic antibiotic during my stims.
There still is not much info on NKcells, it is all still very new. I feel more positive knowing whats wrong, and being treated for it, but feeling anxiouse the druggs won't work.

I'd never heard of NK cells before so was fascinated when you posted info about them. I really hope the new meds work. And now you know you're doing all that you possible can.

Hi Angela,

I don't have private insurance either. My IVF cost around $8000 (through Ballarat IVF) but I have been told I will get around $5000 back on medicare (haven't been able to claim it back yet so don't know for sure). If this is right it means it will only cost $3000 and I've been told it will be only around $2,500 if I go again as I will be over the medicare safety net then. I was able to get a personal loan to pay for IVF and will put everything I get back from medicare back off the loan straight away and then pay the rest off over time.

Do you get anything back from medicare for IUI? I know when my ex girlfriend did it in 2007 it cost her $1,500 (from Albury IVF) and she wasn't able to get anything back. She was told the success rate was around 20% (whereas the success rate with IVF was 35% - so it seems better value for the cost compared to chance of success).

However I also know 2 women who have got pregnant with IUI (one even got pregnant on first attempt, the other was her 4th attempt).

Welcome back Murraycod and like Maggie I hope this is the last time we meet in this thread. So happy that everything has gone well for you and it sounds like you have a lovely embie on board. I cant beleive the amount of drugs you have to take this cycle I know its a pain but if it gives you a BFP then I'm sure you wont be complaining.

Angela prior to IVF I did 2 cycles of IUI and got money back from medicare you might want to check with them though cuase that was last year before MR Kevin Rudd changed the way IVF is rebated. I think each procedure cost about $1500 and I got back about $900. I'm with MIVF

Dreamrise hope your feeling a bit better about all the other things going on with work. Just remember we can only control what we can control so try not to stress and whatever will be will be. Your a strong woman I know this cause if you weren't you wouldn't be going through this IVF rollercoaster so I'm sure you can deal with anything

Nstap hope your feeling better and back to being positive. It amazing that we go through so many emotions through this 2 week period.

AFM well I've been extremely busy at work this week so during the day I don't really get time to think about what's happening to my little embie. Yesterday I left work exhausted and look terrible by the time I got home was really drawn out and last night I had some pains like AF was on the way so started to freak out a bit (prayed like crazy) but today is a new day and everything seems good again

Angela, I'm with QFG and an IVF cycle is $6700 upfront for the basic cycle. I don't know what the out of pocket is yet after the safety net changes as this is my first cycle this year. I do have insurance so I don't know how much extra the hospital costs would be. If you go to the QFG reception they can give you a cost estimate. Depending on how long you're willing to wait, it might work out cheaper to sign up for a basic hospital health insurance policy and wait out the waiting period?

Well I caved and POAS today which is 7DP6DT and 13DPO FET. It was a BFN which I was pretty convinced about as I have no sore boobs which I had last time and got a positive on a HPT at 5DP5DT even though it ended a couple days later, with a HCG of 45.

My BT is Friday but I will go tomorrow so I can talk to FS about whether I can do a back to back for our next FET. That one will be transfer number 10 for us and probably the last.

Terry - you're good, i'm the same, once i'm totally into work it all disappears from my mind, but then i realise i haven't eaten anything for a while so then freak that i'm not nurishing my embie!!! So, am then flooded with guilt. My sufferage though is a HPT each morning. I know, stupid but without anything else, it means i'm doing something. And so far, all the BFN's aren't disappointing cause i know that's what it's meant to read cause it's too soon...though if it continues through to the weekend, then i'll start getting nervous. When are you gonig for your BT??

Angela - Can't help you with costs, i'm in Syd and use a not-for profit clinic at Westmead Hospital so, literally not paying anything near what all the other states seem to charge. I don't think if we lived anywhere else we'd have had the opportunity to even try IVF let alone a FET cycle too.

NStap - how are you managing?? Hopefully you are finding some distractions to get you through this...

To all the other's i've missed - sorry! Hope the TWW is going fast for you and that your bodies and embies and meds and everything else is doing everything necessary to help the emby/ies stick and turn into lil fetus's!

I rang the clinic today to find out if my other 2 embryos had ended up developing enough to be able to freeze. i was told that they let them grow to 6 days but they still didn't get to a decent sizze so they weren't suitable for freezing. I really have to hope this little embie sticks because I don't want to start from scratch again. If I'm not pregnant I don't know what I'll do.

Hope everyone else is doing okay... my blood test is 1 week away now... so I'm half way through my 2 ww.

Murraycod - thank you for your kind words. I wish I had some wise words of wisdom (even if I did here's to you not actually needing them!!) but I don't. So in answer to your question I don't actually know. I guess the years just roll by and every now and then you get some renewed hope and plunge back into the IVF thing. We have had a couple of extended breaks when needed and we have certainly had many people say they can 'fix' us and the current being Dr S with our NK Cells. He did say it may take up to three cycles so you never know the the next one may be lucky number 10. The main things that have helped me over the years have been - wine, Sarah Lee Ultra Choc Ice Cream (an empty one sitting next to me right now), screaming when I need to, crying when I need to, taking it out on my DH when I need to, wine, the wonderful offer of gestational surrogacy by our best friends which we will look at after number 10, wine, did I mention wine and at times medication.......oh and my beautiful DH bought me a gorgeous boxer pup as a surprise on the day of my Feb transfer and I have fallen in love.

Hang in there and I've got everything crossed for you and all the other gals this time around.

Kitkat - thank you so much for this post. I've been searching the net for symtoms and what to expect during the 2WW and have been getting worried as I've not felt anything yet. I still have 7 days to go so your comments have reassured me a little and given me hope.

Nay29 FX for you, 1st cycle is always so so hard - i felt like i was treated as though i had done it so many times before and that i knew everythign they were talking about, no to mention the q's on what to expect. Try seeing the TWW as down time from injections and nasal sprays and focusing on the self care and positive thinking rather than counting - easier said than done, but i think it's definately the time to be selfish and look after you!
