Is this a possible method of AC?

For anovulatory cycles, is it possible to receive treatment with Puregon/HCG trigger to induce ovulation, but DTD rather than having an IUI or ET?

I only ask because I have always responded well to Puregon/HCG, but Clomid doesn't seem to work for me. DH has poor sperm count and motility, but we're not really ready to jump back into full-on AC at the moment, as we've recently had an unsuccessful FET (1 embie) and our other 3 embies didn't survive the thaw. We can't really afford to do another stim cycle at the moment either.

So, is it possible? And would it have to be monitored by a FS or an OB?

It's certainly possible - I believe SaltPrincess was doing this before she moved on to IUI. I think that there's quite a few specialists out there who are against timed intercourse like this, and they'd probably still want to monitor things closely - but it certainly can't hurt to ask your FS if they are willing to do it for you. Good luck, Cherie.

    Cherie,
I am on this at the moment but combining it with FET.
I was offered it before I went to IVF but the amount of folicles that are produced can be a problem with ethicalities and AC. I produced 6 folicles and they wouldnt trigger and that was on 75iu.
Puregon is expensive too lol I just got a script done and it was $845.00 unless you have some left over from prev cycles.
You will have to be monitored for the above reason mainly to watch for folicle count and growth for trigger but it done under cycle monitoring item number can chase it up , about 6yrs ago it was about $400 but claimable thru medicare plus drugs

Cherie - a lot of FS's won't allow timed intercourse for the fact that there is so little control and no guarantee the little fella's will make it to the womb. my FS will only do ovulation induction with IUI to at least give some additional chance of conception. As SP said, OI is expensive, and you'll still have to go through the same monitoring as they won't trigger if too many follicles ...

Thanks for all the replies girls. It sounds like it's an option, but not a popular option. I was really just wondering if it was possible.

Can I ask why you don't want to do IUI? Because this IUI cycle was almost identical to my first timed intercourse cycle, same blood tests, injections, trigger, just an extra appointment for the insemination (I hate that word!!)
It's weird and complicated to explain. DS was conceived, miraculously, via IUI. We were supposed to be having a FET, but had to cancel due to timing issues (I was going to present a paper at a conference in another state), and since I had already been taking the puregon and having monitoring, my FS suggested IUI, so as not to waste the cycle altogether. He gave us about a 5% chance of success, due to DH's sperm issues. And then, I actually thought my period had arrived and booked in to see my FS on CD5 for blood tests for a FET cycle. Blood tests showed I was pregnant.

I've always considered it to be an amazing, miraculous, incredible occurrence that the IUI worked. And I'm scared to do IUI again, because failure will take away some of the magic of DS's conception. I know that probably makes no sense whatsoever, and even in my own head it isn't logical, but there you go

BTW, my IUI cycle only cost me about $300 out-of-pocket (with no private health insurance). And the script for Puregon I had recently filled was only about $100. Annoyingly, I had 2 full vials of the stuff in my fridge, which DH, in a fit of decluttering, decided to leave out of the fridge

Hi all I was just reading all your replys I have only just recently been put onto Puregon and the only monitoring I have is bt to see if it is working and my FS just has us doing timed intercourse. I don't know if it makes a difference that DB has great sperm count or not. Also I noticed that Puregon was expenceive for a few of you I only ended up paying $32 for my prescription and that was just using medicare I wonder why it is so much more for some people anyway did BT today just waiting for results to see if there has been and success.
Good luck to everyone and hope to hear lots more BFPs from you all.

Mu IUI's were similar to Cheries too price wise, and that was with clomid, clomid & trigger and then FSH and then abandoned due to amount of folis.

Hey Cherie, you know I know absolutely nothing about AC. But just wanted to tell you to make sure DH has a good dose of Caffeine before DTD... it helps give those swimmers a big boost of energy

I hope I am not out of place posting in here

    Hi Cherie
I did 3 cycles that way they call it OI and they will monitor (well they did at my clinic) only thing is my DH has "super" spermies (huge count and good motility) and i had good follicles infact one cycle they cancelled because i had too many and we still DTD with no joy and i got BFP on my first IUI so i dont know how successful Ovulation induction actually is? Have you been able to get any stats?

    Hi Cherie

I cant see why they wouldn't look at it as an option of they do Clomid cycles, they would just have to monitor the same as clomid. And it didn't sound silly at all, DS's conception sounds like a beautiful miracle and you should hold on to that however you want

And Tanya i know HEAPS about AC, but didn't know that about the caffeine, so thanks! and constructive input is always welcome!
