    Male Fertility Issue: Epilepsy??

    Hey,

My wife and I are trying to conceive, and I'm an epileptic - and I've recently heard that some epilepsy medication (sodium valproate) can affect fertility. My motility is close to nothing.

Has anyone heard anything on this side of this?

Here is the leaflet for valproate. It does list male infertility as a possible side effect (scroll to the bottom)

Hi. My husband has epilepsy and has been on Eplilim (which I'm sure is sodium valproate) for over 15 years (from age 22 - 36). We have 2 children and could have had many more if we wished, so can confidently say that in the case of my hubby it has had no effect whatsoever. With both children we fell pg as soon as we started trying. Have you had a sperm count done?
