Hi, just wanted to introduce myself as i'm new to bellybelly. I've been TTC long term and my husband and I have our first appointment with the FS this week. Finally a positive step and hopefully some success!!
Hi Faye, welcome!!
You'll find lots of support here. I recently joined and now I'm addicted!
Good luck with the FS appointment. Seeing a FS is such a positive step to take because whether you discover issues or nothing at all, you'll come out with knowledge and a plan
So my husband and I had our first appt with FS and it turns out I have severe endometriosis. I'm booked in for a laparoscopy on 15th Feb and dreading it. FS says second operation will be necessary and will be much more serious but not sure when that will be yet. He feels confident that I will have be able to conceive probably with IVF but not until minimum end of the year. This was all very disheartening.
Oh Faye, I'm so sorry you got bad news You must be feeling pretty rough To find something positive tho - at least now you know what the problem is and there's something that can be done about it...
Just curious - how did the FS diagnose you with severe endo? Could they see it on ultrasound?
I had a lap last year and had endo removed (it was mild tho). I was a bit scared but it wasn't that bad. You definitely need a week off work. It's great that they managed to book you in so soon - less time to freak out and recovery sooner.
I really hope you are coping ok. Your dream of having a baby is not lost, just delayed Wishing you the best of luck.
At this stage i'm only booked in for diagnostic lap, then a second op has to be booked in to remove the endo. He said the wait could be a couple of months as I have to go through public.
He diagnosed it just through an internal, he then did an ultrasound and saw it straight away. Its affecting my bowel which is basically stuck to my uterus. That's how i interpreted it anyway... I don't know a whole lot about it.
Luckily my husband and I run our own business so time off work isn't an issue for me...
Any idea why it takes so long afterwards to be able to conceive??
Hey,
I'm sure they have good reasons for the two surgeries but what a pain they can't just do it all in the one go so you only have to have one surgery. Booo Maybe it's to do with the severity? I'm sorry I don't know why they want you to wait so long to ttc either. I only know from my experience, I could start ttc once I got my first normal period after the surg. Again, I'm sure they have their reasons and maybe due to the positioning of the endo your body will need time to heal. You should definitely ask your FS these questions when you get the opportunity. It feels much better going into these things informed
Do you have much pain and discomfort from your endo?
I think i better write a list of all my questions for FS otherwise i'm going to forget and as you say it's better to be well informed.
I don't seem to get alot of pain. The last few years I've had pretty bad periods but I never thought there was a problem causing that. A few cramps and things at times but again I didn't know that wasn't normal. I thought our infertility was related to my husband as he had a vesectomy reversal 18 months ago so we're going through tests for him as well. Fingers crossed all is ok there!
Well it's been a week now since the lap surgery. The endo is very severe and requires about a 3 1/2 hour operation to remove it including partial bowel removal. FS wants to put me on Zoladex for 2-3 months before i get the next operation but from what i've read i'm not so keen on this drug. I have a follow up appt with him on 28th Feb so i'll be asking if there's any other options... Good news was that my tubes and ovaries are all ok so once the endo is removed and i'm all healed up we can start IVF. I'm guessing there'll be quite a recovery time after the next one....
Hi Faye sorry to hear your endo is at that level but just wanted to let you know my SIL just had the same removed during surgery from bowel etc very severe, in July, it took her 3 full cycles to conceive naturally following her surgery, so it can make an immediate difference. Hope you can get your op sooner rather than later and best of luck xx
