It is a very good theory actually. The idea is that with you hips elevated the semen pools at your cervix allowing more sperm to get where they need to go. One thing that a lot of people don't realise is that the semen is just the carrier of the sperm, once inside you, the sperm swim into your CM & are transported that way. So any leakage you have while it will still contain some sperm, it will mostly just be empty fluid IYKWIM.

    *TMI*.....
Do you know where your cervix is located babe??? Mine is more towards the front, so when trying, we use "doggy" position, with a pillow under my tummy. Afterwards, I lie down on the bed, butt in the air, for the little swimmers to travel down towards the front. I rarely have too much come out when I get up later......

Also missionary, with pillow under butt, so its already up high before ejaculation can help keep lots in too!!!

    hahaha oh dear.

DH gets spoilt when we TTC coz he gets to go first! Theory being that you get the swimmers in there, and then apparently when you go, the cervix dips into all the spermies and sucks em all up (hows that for technical speak LOL). We don't have toooooo much mess doing this. The other reason is also because I have to extract his swimmers before we get interrupted by a certain toddler who just doesn't sleep through! PMSL

We were TTC for 7 months, and I always did the bum in the air thing . My son, however, was concieved standing up in the shower so obviously it didn't work for us.
I think, everyones different and you just gotta try a few different things and see what works for you.
    Good luck

Wow, you'd think after 3 years TTC I woulda known that Thanks Sarah, that makes me feel better

TBH, I've only tried to find it once or twice, and never been able to reach. I wonder if mine is really high, as I've never had much success with tampons either, they never feel like they're in far enough, KWIM? I also have a retroverted uterus, so I think the cervix goes a different way...

LOL Liz - believe me, the dumber you say things, the more chance I have of understanding! I have heard that before, and I think thats where my problem is, because apparently with a retroverted uterus the cervix isn't actually dipping into the 'pool'.

Oh well, DH is happy to get some every 3 days, he doesn't mind helping me get my legs in the air! I'll just hafta remember a towel from now on

If you have a retroverted uterus, you should lie face down, not the other way, cause your cervix will be pointing toward the front. (never did any good for us either way...)

The dipping thing still holds Liz, but you need to lie the other way (y'know, in theory, if it actually does any good).

ok... found my ultrasound report.. mine is anteverted, not retroverted! So a quick google... mine is tipped forward, retroverted is tipped backward.

hmm.. now I'm confused marcellus LOL. anteverted would want to lie face down bum up to dip into the pool wouldn't it?

OK.. so i dared to google orgasm & sperm LOL... and found this interesting book excerpt! The science of orgasm - Google Books It's a link to the search result, just so it takes you to the pages that I was reading. Quite interesting Doesn't say anything about the position of the uterus, but talks about the dipping of the cervix into the pool and even about how much sperm was in the flowback. Bit scarey that they tested some of these things with radioactive particles.. eesh.. bags not being the guinea pig!

Oh hun. I'm sure all of us when TTC have tried and done this. So you aren't being silly by doing it. I'm not sure if it works or not, but in theory it should. Another thing don't get up from bed after DTD, stay in bed for as long as you can.
If you have an old towel or something like that, cut it in half or into 3 and place it ontop of your pillow to absorb any leaking fluid.

I am hoping that you conceive soon hun. I am so looking forward to your preg announcement.

    xxoo
