I'm offended and I'm not even using IVF!
I can understand wanting to try to make sure that only "good" people have kids, but seriously - it's just ridiculous and discriminatory![]()
Is anyone else rather offended by the new laws in Victoria requiring Police checks and working with children checks for couples seeking fertility treatment?
We are about to embark on more IVF, previously had 7 full drug cycles/collections/transfers which eventually resulted in our lovely little girl now 13 months old.
Now we have lined up for more IVF and have to go through this police check etc palava. We have the police check and the working with children check however am having difficulty obtaining a police check from the UK as i lived there for about 3 years about 6 years ago. I am not getting anywhere with the contacts I have been given to do this. Anyone go any suggestions?

when i first arrived in Australia (from the UK) i also needed current PC as i work in Children services. I contacted my local police station in the UK and they halped me with paperwork ect.
There is some information on the british consulate web page but i did not find the links any use at all.
Do you know anyone still living in the UK who could send you the paperwork (as i think my mum posted mine to me) If you need any more help with it im sure mum wont mind the stuff goingto her house then forwarding on to you.
A lengthly process and very annoying. I have to do the same again as i have only been here 7 years and the time frame is 10!
but maybe someone else has a quicker way of getting round it
HTH
Thanks for that advice, I have some mates still living in the UK so they could go and pick up the forms and send them to me. Do they call it a "Police Check" in the UK? just so I can give my friend the right instructions.
Sure do just get them to go into the local and ask even though I lived in dirty I think mine went through the police station in croydon (it's a big one and maybe where most are delt through)
Let me know how you get in x
I am in SA and currently undergoing ICSI #1
I was HORRIFIED when they handed me a stat. dec to gt signed by a JP saying that I'd never been convicted of a crime yadda, yadda...
My thoughts went directly to the 16 year old girls that I see wandering the streets in the city asking for money... pushing 2 kids in a pram and one on the way...
Seriously...![]()
Yes it is a little insulting. I have to say I am one of those who believes that if there were some way to have everyone get a license to have a child then we should however until this happens it is blatant discrimination to ask one section of the population to undergo police checks and working with children checks before they have there own child.
I can also understand that if you were giving a child up for adoption you would want to know that these sorts of check were being done on those adopting the child but this has already been happening for some time.
the most annoying thing is until I get them check doen for the UK I cant have any more treatment. I was supposed to have a FET this month but will have to wait. I am still not very good with the abbreviations FET is frozen embryo transfer right?
I know how frustrating waiting for a cycle is i had to wait till after i had some surgery once and that was 10mths! I sometimes wonder if you should just give them the Aus PC and wait and see if they ask for the UK one and if they do just say oh its coming, i also wonder if you can give them a receipt number and tell them that it is being processed?
With regards to FET yes you are correct

I am going to try and go ahead next month regardless. My friend in London said she would try and get the forms for me today.
I have to admit it feels a bit weird lining up to have more IVF. Not sure how I am going to juggle it all. It was pretty hard last time.
Perhaps try the Australian Immigration website as they have a list of all the contacts around the world to get your police check done - individual police stations don't do them, there is a central police checking place in the UK (I had to do this to get permanent residency just last year from here).
Actually, I'll give you the link -
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/char...cter-penal.pdf
It also tells you what you need to send off to get your police check.

Thank you so much for that, I have just managed to download the forms this should make it a lot easier. Now I just have remember all the addresses of the places I lived in over that 4 year period!
Glad you got it sorted.
It's a bummer that you have to do it in the first place but I guess there is no getting around it.
