Police checks and working with children checks

Is anyone else rather offended by the new laws in Victoria requiring Police checks and working with children checks for couples seeking fertility treatment?

We are about to embark on more IVF, previously had 7 full drug cycles/collections/transfers which eventually resulted in our lovely little girl now 13 months old.

Now we have lined up for more IVF and have to go through this police check etc palava. We have the police check and the working with children check however am having difficulty obtaining a police check from the UK as i lived there for about 3 years about 6 years ago. I am not getting anywhere with the contacts I have been given to do this. Anyone go any suggestions?

I'm offended and I'm not even using IVF!

I can understand wanting to try to make sure that only "good" people have kids, but seriously - it's just ridiculous and discriminatory

when i first arrived in Australia (from the UK) i also needed current PC as i work in Children services. I contacted my local police station in the UK and they halped me with paperwork ect.

There is some information on the british consulate web page but i did not find the links any use at all.

Do you know anyone still living in the UK who could send you the paperwork (as i think my mum posted mine to me) If you need any more help with it im sure mum wont mind the stuff goingto her house then forwarding on to you.

A lengthly process and very annoying. I have to do the same again as i have only been here 7 years and the time frame is 10!

but maybe someone else has a quicker way of getting round it

Thanks for that advice, I have some mates still living in the UK so they could go and pick up the forms and send them to me. Do they call it a "Police Check" in the UK? just so I can give my friend the right instructions.

I am in SA and currently undergoing ICSI #1

I was HORRIFIED when they handed me a stat. dec to gt signed by a JP saying that I'd never been convicted of a crime yadda, yadda...

My thoughts went directly to the 16 year old girls that I see wandering the streets in the city asking for money... pushing 2 kids in a pram and one on the way...

    Seriously...

    Police checks

Yes it is a little insulting. I have to say I am one of those who believes that if there were some way to have everyone get a license to have a child then we should however until this happens it is blatant discrimination to ask one section of the population to undergo police checks and working with children checks before they have there own child.

I can also understand that if you were giving a child up for adoption you would want to know that these sorts of check were being done on those adopting the child but this has already been happening for some time.
