    Question, pls help?!

I had my second ultrasound this morning. It turns out that there are now 9eggs and the sizes are alright.

I know that normally 15-20eggs will be produced by the body after taking the medicine, is that right? Also, my doctor said that I didn't react to the Gonal-f very well. I have to take 225IU instead 150IU from tonight for 1 or 2days and then tirgger. By the way, after using Gonal-f and Synarel for one week, I don't feel many side effects such as headaches or breast tenderess.

I am bit upset and worry about what would be the outcome. For girls go through the process, what do you think? I really need your advice, Thank you.

    Hi Lucky,

From my experience so far it seems as though each person responds to the drugs differently. In my case, they tweaked the dosage until they thought they got it right. Unfortunately, it's not an exact science. Nine follicles sounds pretty good. Remember, its quality not quantity thats important! Hopefully one of those nine will go on to become your BFP! You may even find that more follies appear between now and your next scan!!

Which clinic are you with? If you are at all unsure about any stage of the process, give the nurses a call. I harrassed them almost every day during the latter phase of my last cycle!!

    I hope that helps you.
    Good luck!!

    Thanks Bluesky.

I am with MIVF. I will ring them tomorrow afternoon for finding the exact day of OPU (Friday or Saturday). Well, my doctor refer Saturday so I could have two 225IU injection. But it also depends on the availability of the hosiptal.

Honestly Lucky, Bue is right on the money about having quality over quantity. Last cycle a friend and I went through it at the exact same time and I had 48 follicles, she had 7. In the end we both ended up with three embryos - so dont be too concerned.

    Best of luck with it!

    Hi lucky
    I agree with these ladies.
    Quality not quantity.
    Last cycle I had
    7 follicles
    3 eggs
    1 embryo
and I got pregnant...........didnt stay that way for long but it worked!!

hope everything goes well I love MIVF!!

    Hi luckydraw,

I think you are doing great for your first try. It is all new to the doctors when you first have a go at this. They alternate as they check your bloods and folicle development.

In the beginning, I was told I had about 13 little ones and when I had the egg collection the doc only took 6 out. I was very dissapointed but he was more for the quality than the quantity and he was right. All fertilised, 2 frozen and one transfer - outcome, pregnancy.

Dont worry too much. It all depends on the person but it sounds like you are doing very well. Just take each day as it comes and try to relax.

Best of luck with everything babe

I only had 12 follicles, 6 embryos and only 2 made it to blasts. One resulted in pregnancy the other I'm trying now with a FET. My Doc always said it only takes 1 and he was right.

It all sounds good for you luckdraw - try to relax (I know how impossible this is) and good luck with the transfer. Come join us in the monthly thread - we help each other through the good and the bad.

Melb - where my coolness isn't seen as wierdness

Most clinics only ever aim for about 10 follicles at any one time. I've never had more than 9 eggs collected and there was certainly no rush to increase my doses. Your body is not made to carry tonnes of eggs, and a good Dr would start out conservatively. So if this was my first cycle and I got 9 follies, I would be ecstatic with the result.

Don't compare yourself to the women who have had 20-30 eggs. This brings about a whole different set of worries (as I'm sure Keen will attest to), including hyperstim should you get pregnant. More is not always better.

Stressing yourself out about what essentially is a good outcome is not good for you at a time when you should be trying to keep your stress levels down.

Hi Lucky.. my girlfriend in Adelaide only had 3 follies retreived 4 years ago and she was devastated... BUT all fertilised and all were suitable for transfer. She now has Isobel and Will thanks to her IVF, with one spare which she will have put in next year... so like the other girls have said... it's all quality NOT quantity!!

    good luck xx

Thank you so so... much for all these encouragement. I am really feeling much better now.

I am quite happy about my performance when taking those drugs. But just from yesterday, I feel completely different, sort of freaked out. This afternoon I knew OPU would be on this Friday. Now I just try to make deep breath and calm down.

Hi Lucky.... I kinda popped in here...

I was a long term TTC too - long b4 I joined here.
But in saying that - I only had 2 follies.... EVER.
Less than 2 weeks b4 I found out I was pregnant - we had visited SA's leading IVF specialist (only to be told by him that we were not suitable for the program - I had a really bad reaction to Clomid) and there I had an internal U/S - again just 2 lonely ole souls... and I was day 5 or 6?? I cant remember.

So the girls are right - its Quality!

    Good Luck!

    Hi girls,

Thank you. It has been more than one week. Last Friday I was bit disappointed again because there were only 3eggs picked up. Even my doctor said that more were expected. Well, luckily 2 little&cute embryos came to the world. I have had one transferred.

I believe that the quality is much more important than the quantity, and now feel very confident.

Still ten days to go. I will let you know the result. Thank you again.
