    Recovery after D&C....is this normal?

    Hi all,

    Hoping someone can help.,.

I had a D&C on Wednesday after an OPU due to problems with my endometrium. It was very painful afterwards (I could barely walk out of the hospital).

I was given a script for panadeine forte which I have been taking on and off. The reason I am posting is I am surprised I am still in so much pain. At times I can barely walk and am pretty much limited to lying on the couch/bed or propping myself up on the computer.

It's hard to turn over, stand up, etc too. Is this normal???

I dont know if it is the OPU or the D&C or a combination of both but I thought the pain would be much less by now.

    What does everyone think???

I think you need to go back and explain whats happening, just in case. My pain wasn't *as* severe or crippling, but I did have quite a bit of discomfort and it was a sign of a small perforation of my uterus from the D&C and the development of an infection also.
Good luck N2L and big hugs, it just plain sucks.

After my last D&C I was in agony. I felt like I was in labour.. It was horrible. The only thing that worked to take the pain away was Voltaren suppositories then the next day I had voltaren tablets. At the hospital they gave me panadeine forte and oxycontin and they both did nothing for the pain.
Rest up, use a hot water bottle and see if you can get hold of some voltaren. You can buy then over the counter at the chemist.

Did they give you a script for any antibiotics? they often dont after a D&C as they say they are scrapping away the linning anyway but that still could leave an infection IMO as i have bee there after a D&C

Call your FS and get in to see them or go to a GP

    Thanks everyone,

They gave me Fentanyl at the hospital as well as panedeine forte. Apparently they also gave me a massive dose of antibiotics intravenously (but no follow up script).

I have just taken some more painkillers and am feeling a little more comfortable. Although I am pretty gassy (sorry if TMI!)

If I still feel so sore tomorrow, I will go to my gp or the ER.

Ahhh the joys of being a woman

I was in agony for about 2 hours after mine, and then nothing. I was given Fentanyl, Tramal and panadol after/during the procedure. I really couldn't believe the pain stopped so fast, it didn't die down gradually it literally stopped and didn't come back. Weird!

Silly question on my part, but do you think that you might have an upset tummy/or be extra windy after anaesthetic?? Or does it definatly feel like your inside lady organs?

This happend to me a few yerars ago, I was in pain for about 2 weeks after a d&c, I had no other sign of infection but my stomach was bloated and sore to touch and i was crying every day- miserable. My usual dr was away( of course) so I rang his covering ob/gynae and she sent me a script for antibiotics, within 24 hrs I was feeling normal again. My Dr said it was just a coincidnce and it was probably just bowel/wind pain, I nearly laughed in his face!

Push for antibiotics, even if it isn't a 'typical' presentation of infection, but i hope now you are a few days down the track you are feeling better now, hun, you have been through enough and I hope you can move on to your transfer soon xxx
