I haven't posted in a while but I'm after some advice, after 3 + years TTC I finally demanded a Lap and Dye done. As I was just being passed from fertility drug to fertilty drug, it wasn't having any luck. I live in a smaller town and unfortunately only have access to overworked under compassion Gynecologists. I've been through two, the second one is who did my Lap yesterday. Before leaving his intern came in and told me I have two blocked tubes, but one is partially open but the dye took a very long time to come through, and our chance of natural conception was very low. So, then I ring today for a follow up and was told he's now going on two months holiday and I'll just have to wait....So thanks, tell me the worse news of my life and then go on a holiday? I've had it to the eye balls with these country gynos and have made enquires into Sydney IVF. They have a branch in my town.
Has anyone else gone through a blocked tubes clearing? Is there really any chance with natural therapy. I've been researching a lot and there seem to be some herbal remedies available, like herbal tampons and ducheing. Has anyone at all had success clearing blockages with these? I'm also thinking of seeing a natropath, anyone have any luck with these?
I'm getting to the desperate point. I've been an emotional mess all day today (my poor husband feels so helpless), I feel like I've wasted all these years trying with no hope at all. I'm 31 soon and all I want to do is be a mummy. (sorry tears flowing again so I'll end here)
Ninah, I can imagine that was a shock for you. I am sorry you had to learn this and then not have access to any answers for such a long time!
There are some old threads on blocked tubes and TTC. Perhaps try the Search function on the top of your page and put it in the key words. Let me know if you have any problems. Hopefully someone with specific information may see your thread.
xx
Two months! Wow - hate to be anyone who's on his list having bubs in that time - just to be palmed off to someone else!
I would definitely seek further advice - the extra trip will be well worth it if you find someone who is willing to help.
If you find a new gyno, you could have them get your results and file from the previous guy - that way you won't have to wait for him to come back from his world tour!
That is really horrible news and it is very similar to my story, I hope you don't mind me sharing. I had endo and blocked tubes which I had some corrective surgery on. The endo was removed and the tubes "unblocked". My fertility specialist told me that in his experience, no matter how much you unblock tubes, they tend to close up again. He seems to be right on that because I had another HSG 6 months after the first one and my tubes had indeed blocked up again (this was last year).
So we decided to try some fertility treatments. I had one IUI which I responded well to, but was obviously a BFN because of the blocked tubes. I don't regret doing that one little bit because it totally prepared me for my IVF cycle.
After a discussion early this year with my FS, we agreed that we were ready for IVF and it has worked first time and I am pregnant after 5.5 years of TTC, 3 of those years very actively and with those surgeries in the middle.
I say go for IVF, with blocked tubes it is really a good procedure with the most likely success rates for your situation. I also want to add that I have acupuncture too and this has helped immensely with cycle length, relaxation and other benefits. It's truly the best money I ever spent.
Good luck hun, and I know that this news feels really awful just now, but there are things that can be done. Seeing the IVF people is definitely a good step to take.
Thanks for the replies, and Sue a big congratulations. I think I've wasted enough time with Gyno's and Hubby and I feel ready to try IVF (well as ready as one can possibly be I guess).
Wishing you the best of luck, it's so traumatic receiving news like that. Earl y last year I experienced an ectopic pregnancy and lost my right tube and was told my left tube was "in pretty bad shape". I was told IVF was our best option. I was shattered and shocked and angry and upset
I did go to Sydney IVF and find the branch in my town to be very good. I did get pregnant through IVF, although unfortunately miscarried (have since found out cause for my losses though).
Also, I have fallen pregnant naturally with that one bad tube, so sometimes surprises like that can happen out of the blue too.
I hope we all have our much longed for babies very soon.
Hang in there, and take one step at a time, as you process your news
Thank you for your reply Possum, I'm so sorry to hear about your news too. It's so hard to digest such news and you're right - it's a matter of taking it one step at a time.
Sydney IVF has contacted me this morning and I'm going to give them a call later today for just a chat, and see what my options really are.
Wishing you lots of luck on your journey too
I'm truely sorry you are going through all of this.... its such a hard time .. I basically posted the same post as yours in November last year when i had my first Lap/Dye/DNC done and got told both my tubes were blocked from my local GYNO... i honestly couldnt believe it.. it was awful...So anyway i done alot of reading on blocked tubes etc and decided to go for a HSG.... GYNO didnt want me to do this but i finally got a refferal off him so i could get it done..... at the HSG they couldnt get the dye through my tubes either (actually they couldnt even get it to fill my uterus)
So anyway i decided to go to a FS (which i should have done in the first place as i was already 2+ years TTC) anyway our FS said he'd like us to do another LAP + Hysteroscopy (SP?) so i booked in to have that done and it turned out i didnt have blocked tubes.... actually they were perfect..... i did however have severe endo (which i still have)and no one can figure out how my GYNO missed it as all my organs are stuck together :| ... Apparently while having a lap your tubes can spasm which stops the dye going through your tubes
Anyway bascially all i wanted to say is that a second opinion is always a fantastic idea.... im not saying that the same thing that happened to me (tubes spasm) happened to you... but i guess you just never know
I can understand where you are coming from, we were trying when I lived up your way - originally from Armidale and was being fobbed off and told until you have been trying for a certain amount of time, they couldn't do much for me.
Anyway, have moved now, saw Dr down here and they referred me straight onto a FS in Albury - so glad I went, they put me on clomid for 4 months and then I was referred back - had the Lap/Dye/Hys done the next week - there apparently was "gunk" in my tubes which the dye helped clean out and now have a BFP the first month after.
I have been told that it can appear that your tubes are blocked but not be and may have a bit of "gunk" in them like me. I would definately be getting a referral and your records sent direct to the Sydney FS that goes to your area. They may give you a different view altogether.
I was pretty happy with our FS - as he didn't muck around and sorted it out. I was just disappointed that we had tried "naturally" for all that time and the problem was sorted by that op.
I am currently feeling the frustration all you girls have/ahad. Especially you Ninah in the small town business and getting turned away or not investigated then having to wait till the Gyno returns from his holiday and the waiting lists. In a way I am lucky that after 13months ttc we found our problem (blocked tube) we found out because of an ectopic pregnancy and whilst they were removing my tube they found adhesions and endo which I didn't know I had. It is also much worse on the side my tube is then the side with the ectopic and now gone tube. They assume the other tube isn't great but we wont know until I have a HSG to see what its doing which the Gyno is reluctant to do due to the anethetic risk I am. (HSG can't be done here without a GA) I just want to be referred to somewhere that can do it without a GA.
I have being looking into unblocking blocked tubes which is how I found this thread which doesn't sound like the best option anyway and the risks of another EP in my remaining tube. I am just so frustrated at the moment with all the waiting.
im so sorry u are going through this. I hope u are able to find someone who can help alot sooner than 2 months! My OB/GYN did the same thing. Except i rang him to see if had ovulated and he said yes and there was nothing more that he could do except if i dont get my period, to come see him... in 4 months time!!! hahahaa not likley.. i went through someone else.
Hang in there sweety and get researching about what u can do about blocked tubes! which im sure u are already doing
