Starting IUI....anxious!

just about to start first round of IUI...dunno what to expext!

all that comes to my mind...atleast we have a fair chance now with AI....
my dh has a low numbers of normal morpgology sperms...keeping fingers crossed...

anyone to share their experience?

Saw your thread and couldnt leave and not post. Hopefully this little helping hand will be all that those little need and you will have your BFP before you know it. I personally dont have a positive story but I have seen quite a few girls around that do have the perfect outcome from IUI so heres hoping you join those ranks .

Hi There

I am a positive IUI story, although it took until our third round to fall pregnant. I was super nervous at first about the injections, but they're really not so bad. Most of them are a really fine needle, you barely feel it.

I htink the worst part is the actual insemination, as it's like a pap smear so a bit embarressing and uncomfortable, but by the second time I knew to bring my ipod so I could zone out to my favourite music. You have to site there for 15 mins afterwards so it was good to have music while I tried to relax. If oyu have any specific questions feel free to ask.

kyliealysha......can i ask what was the problem in regards to fertility in your case?
ours is mainly male factor ,abnormal morphology , and our FS did not suggest IUI at first,only after we got a second opinion we pushed her and said we wanted IUI as its much less invasive. si i am not sure if we are doing the right thing.
i saw the nurse this afternoon , she has given me all the injections and instructions. i got my periods today,and for the first time in the last 18 months i was happt to have it.....just so i cud start with the IUI cycle!

did you have any sideeffects with these drugs?
oh yes...ipod is a very good option,i wiil remember to take tht? did you husband come along with you on that day?

i have a similar situation to you - my hubby also has poor morphology and we are about to start our 2nd round of IUI. The difference is that I have PCOS. Unfortunately, the first time round didnt work and i was devestated - but the flip side is that the more times you try, the better your chances.

For the IUI itself, we actually ended up making a day of it. After giving his sample, DH and I went to a nearby supermarket, got some breakfast and ate in the park next to the clinic. It took a bit of pressure off just hanging out with DH. His reaction when the procedure started was priceless - i think he hadn't realised how invasive it was. he was kind of all huddled up in the corner of the room - so we had a good laugh about that. Also the staff were very friendly and tried to make it as painless as possible.

felt very good to read your post. we also started out TTC journey march 2009 .
Doctors said i dont have PCOS but just poly cystic ovaries which means i may not ovulate every cycle.but when they did 21 day progesterone tests it detected ovulation. its like a borderline PCOS case.so it wont be wrong to say we r in the same boat !!
how many follicles did you get in your first attempt? i will be very sad if the cycle gets cancelled. the nurse said if there are more than 2 follicles they will cancel the cycle.

i have also asked DH to come with me for the actual procedure,but he dosent seem to take it so seriously !!

i'm glad my post made you feel good! it's nice to have the companionship of someone who is going through the same thing.

i got one massive follicle my first time- it was about 27 mm. that's strange that if there is more than 1 follicle, they won't do it...they never told me that. i would have thought the opposite would be true, i was kind of disappointed when they told me i only had one. i guess i haven't read up enough about everything.

i am taking my last dose of clomid tonight and then going for a blood test and U/S on Sunday - so it depends on those results - it should be early next week sometime.

hope your injections weren't too painful!

i took my first injection yesterday, it wasnt tht bad at all !!!! i was so relieved after that.

yes they told me if there are more than 2 follicles, there is increased chance of multiple pregnancy . large number of follicles are actually good when you are doing IVF because that means you can retreive more eggs and tht gives better chance of getting frozen embryos for future . and in IVF they can control the number of embryos they transfer reducing the risk of multiple pregnancy. but in IUI if there are multiple eggs, multiple pregnancy cannot be controlled.

my IUI is still not planned, need to go for a BT on monday. is your clinic open on sunday?? where are you from? good luck with your scan......hope everything looks fantastic !!!

I have PCOS too, but actually it wasn't me that was the issue, I was ovulating fine.

DH had poor morphology as well as not a huge total count. I htink his morphology was about 6% normal which isn;t great. I made him wear boxers to increase our chances

He did come with me the first time, but the second and third times were both work days and it was a bit difficult. Plus he needed to do his part about an hour before my section, and we didn't want to both be hanging out there for hours IYKWIM. SO he went and left his deposit and I went and collected it later! LOL

At my clinic they cancell if there are more than 2 follicles. Otherwise there's a major risk of multiples. I had 2 follicles on my successful cycle and we were a bit nervous we'd end up with twins, but so far there seems to be just one baby in there

kyliealysha...thanks for your reply. ours is the same, DH has about 5-6 % normal morphology. i am having my IUI this saturday. i had my scan today, but i dont know how many follicles i have. when the nurse called me in the afternoon i was at work,so couldnt ask everything. but i remember seeing one big follicle and 2-3 other small ones.
as it is saturday DH is obviously coming with me.

hi laura, have you done iui yet? it takes forever to get the process started! It's over a year ago that i had my first appt with the specialist.
I have had two go's but no success yet.. trying again this week. I am not single , but in a lesbian relationship, but my partner doesn't really go in for the whole kid thing! I am kinda on this path alone too!
