Smile Tell Me About Royal Jelly

After reading & hearing so much about Royal Jelly lately, I looked into it & made a visit to the health food store yesterday to buy some.

I seem to have gotten enough info - no help from the salesman who was a little clueless - so I know what its benefits are, I know why people are using it to help with embryo quality etc.

Just wanting experiences with it - I know there are a few IVF ladies who are taking it

Have you guys had any side effects/allergic reactions?

I'm going to start taking it in capsule form (wasn't able to get it fresh anywhere here, but my Dad lives near a big honey farm so am hoping he can make a visit for me & send me some )... and of course will check with my naturopath & Dr S before even thinking about continuing it during/leading up to my cycle.
I figure I have a few weeks before that though

Just wanted to hear your experiences - do your DH's take it as well - and other things similar.

    Thanks in advance

    Hey,

I was recommended it by my naturopath and some girls on another forum that I visit.

I took the fresh stuff from a month before I started my IVF stims right up until egg pick up. I got 13 eggs collected and 9 fertilised, 8 made it to blasty. I put that down to the royal jelly.

I don't know the science behind it, but my naturopath says that it's good for overall health and if people can afford to take it and stand the taste every day, then go for it.

You shouldn't take it if you have ANY pollen or bee allergies. It can also exacerbate asthma sufferers so shouldn't be taken by those with asthma.

I'd totally recommend it to those doing IVF.
    Hugs and good luck

It doesn't taste like honey, that is for sure. It has honey consistency but burns when it goes down. Ugh.

I got mine in a Go Vita health shop where they were happy to order it in for me.
Not sure what Australian sites supply it online.

    its foul. end of story.

I will be mixing it with something to get that taste away!

Is it supposed to be mixed with honey?

From what I remember, Royal Jelly is the food specifically given to the Queen bee that makes her the Queen Bee.
Like honey, we humans are unsure of its exact molecular make up and why it possesses the qualitites it does, but is reputed to be excellent for the brain, your moods, and your physical appearance too.
You can get royal jelly capsules, just make sure you are getting true royal jelly, that is unadulterated.

Will ask hubby for the details and clarification when he gets home....he is a huge advocate of the stuff.

    Thanks girls for your replies

I can only seem to find the capsules here as well, so bought some & have started taking them.

I asked my naturopath about it on Sat when I had an appointment - she said she recommends it usually for women 35+ doing IVF... I figure it can't hurt anyway

Wow - that sounds very interesting. I remember my mother was taking royal jelly in liquid form (it came in little glass vials and had to be kept in the fridge) for ages. It was suggested to her by our pharmacist after my father passed away and she was having difficulty with anxiety and nervousness. I hadn't heard anything about taking it for egg quality. It might be something I will look into after our overseas trip. I feel like I am taking so many supplements each day that surely another one won't hurt

Holly I would be really interested to see how you go with your next cycle taking the royal jelly.

Ok so the down low on Royal Jelly...

All bees are created with no gender or assignation.
What they are fed determines both job role and gender and also their reproductive properties.

The bees that are fed regular honey turn into drones, males, and have no reproductive powers, with a life span of about 6 weeks or so...
The bee that is fed royal jelly will become a Queen - and thus have reproductive capabilities, live for about 4 years and be larger in size.

The Royal Jelly enhances cell structure...making all cells more robust and healthier.
It also has this effect on reproductive cells.
So for example, if a man produces low quality or quantity sperm, it can help promote healthier sperm cell prodution, stronger sperm, and a greater abundance of sperm

In females it can promote ovum health and strength, and overall reproductive health can be quite considerably enhanced apparetnly.

So in terms of reproductive issues and taking Royal Jelly, it could be more beneficial if your issues are with male fertility, to have hubby take the Royal Jelly. If both partners hae fertility issues, then Royal Jelly can help both of you.

It is not cheap though and it needs to be maintained and you need to make sure you are getting the right Royal Jelly - check out 'Nature B' ...if you get it from the chemist yourself, read the label and check it is as pure as possible and unadulterated.

ETA: the Royal Jelly is secreted by the worker bees and fed to the Queen.
"Apart from the above Royal Jelly also includes a substance that behaves like a hormone and stimulates the sexual glands and Acetylcholine (needed to allow nerve cells to function properly).

Royal Jelly cannot be imitated by science or its beneficial properties accurately understood but there is over whelming evidence that it improves health."

    Hi Limeslice

Thanks for all of the info on Royal jelly.

I managed to find some at my local health food store and have been taking it for a couple of days now. It's not the most pleasant tasting stuff but probably on par with the herbs that I take twice a day as well. Oh well, if it results in a healthy baby, it will all be worth it!

    Thanks Lime

Still can only manage to find it in capsule form here, but will look online or if I head into Sydney soon for the fresh stuff as we move into our cycle.

Have definately noticed a big increase in sex drive/stimulation/desire... so the added benefits are worth it alone

I'm just doing some research to Royal Jelly, I've seen it mentioned around BB a few times now.

I've just seen everyones signatures and it appears not long after posting there was an increase in pregnancies

LimeSlice, thank you for the useful information. I'm going to ask my N/path about it and try to source some for myself, might as well add to all the other lotions and potions I'm consuming at the moment

I just wanted to let you girls know my egg quality was much improved on that last cycle... And my perfect little man in my arms right now is, I'm sure, here because I took it

I advised 2 other BB members after I fell pg, one is due in a few weeks and the other is in her 2nd trimester anyday now.

Definately worth adding to your list of things to take!
Just check with your Dr if you have any pollen or bee allergies
