    Thaw'd 5 - only 1 made it

Last week we thawed all 5 of our embryos that we had left to grow to blast........only one made it and is hopefully growing like crazy in my tummy at the moment!!!

Are these fairly standard odds when it comes to blast survival??? I am trying to get my head around where to go if I have to do another stim (please please please don't let me have to - I dislike those injections.....ALOT!!). My FS is fantastic for letting me make the decisions (sometimes we do what he wants!!) and I like to go into our appointments knowing what I want.

The numbers that make it to blast are fairly low, it seems.

In the two cycles we've been able to grow to blast, we've got 4 from 18 and 7 from 20. However, of those 11 blastocysts, only 4 thawed to be usable embryos, but we had a few other issues with fragmentation, PCOS and bad OHSS on those cycles. Mostly related to getting such ridiculously high egg numbers to start with.

My clinic would not grow to blastocyst unless there were more than three embryos to work with, which should help give you some idea of what sort of numbers the clinic would expect.

I hope your super-blast is growing like mad and you do manage to avoid the need to do another stim cycle. Although, subsequent cycles are never as bad as the first as the clinic has more of an idea about how you respond.

I was told blast are hard to culture to but if they survive for transfer the success rate is 50% so your odds are very good.

    Hi Lil Chookie,

Firstly, good luck!!! I really hope that your little embie sticks!!

Hi BW - I can't remember what my name used to be here but we went to the same acupuncturist - Leah. I've been off the site for ages... but I'm so happy to read that you're pregnant!!!!! Congratulations!!!!

I don't know about the odds for blasts but I thought I'd share my experience. We thawed 3 to get 1 that was ok to transfer. We only had 3 and so the last one was transfered last week. Unfortunately I see touches of red when I go to the toilet so I'm thinking it's all over... find out officially on Friday, but I don't think we'll need the official results. And I'm devestated because we're going on holiday in November which means we can't do a fresh cycle immediately because we'll be away... then it's Xmas. Does anyone know if they let you do a cycle over xmas???? God I hope so!!! I don't want to have to wait!

    Sorry for the rant....

    Good luck Lil Chookie!!!!

Thank you, wannabemumto3! Do you still go to acupuncture? Leah's due same time as me.

As for cycling over Christmas - it depends on what happens with your clinic over Christmas. Mine closed for a period of time, so cycling at that time could have been tricky. I was able to start the ovulation induction drugs for a frozen cycle during the break and come in to start blood tests as soon as they opened up again. You may be lucky in having them allow you to start the initial stages of the cycle, but you'd really have to check with them to find out what's happening.

    Hi Lil Chookie

In my last cycle we had 10 grade 1 embies at day 3 and then growing them out to day 5 blast we only had 3. My FS said that that was "within the normal range" whatever that means! So I am guessing that once you factor in the thawing process that would probably be within the normal range too.

Fingers crossed that Eddie is the stickiest of stickies for you.

I am so stupid - I pee'd on a stick at 5dp5dt and nothing. It wasn't FMU, but not even a hint of a line. You would think I would have learnt to STAY AWAY from those things after all these years of TTC.

Yesterday I felt so happy, I had a strong nauseous feeling on and off all day and funny little twinges in my lower belly. My BB are HUGE (not very sore). I woke up this morning and didn't feel sick anymore, have now got constant cramping in my lower belly and backache - unmistakable pains, I get them every month. Now I am scared, I was feeling so confident and different up until yesterday and now that feeling is gone thanks to that AWEFUL stick.

I just want Eddie to stick around, 6 years is such along time to carry around this pain of wanting a baby, it has to be my turn!!

    My fingers are crossed

lil_chookie, I have found you because I googled "Synaral side effects", and have read your posts for this year out of interest and my heart goes out to you. I started my Synaral today, first IVF cycle, I have 2 daughters and fell pregnant last November with a boy in June I had to terminate at 30 weeks as he had a genetic condition that meant he would not survive very long, very hard decision but the right thing to do for Brendan . To avoid the chance of the same thing happening again we are doing IVF with PGD to select a girl.

Please try to stay positive, I know that is easier to say then do and I can't begin to imagine how you are feeling, the frustration, disappointment and anger must be overwhelming sometimes. Just know that I will be thinking of you over the next few days and look forward to reading your good news.

lil chookie i have EVERYTHING crossed for you (and i've asked the gremlin to do the same!!)

it's such a fantastic sign when you make it past AF due date - hold onto that - and REMEMBER - not everyone gets super strong pg signs - some get none at all - so feeling good doesn't mean it's a bad thing (hope that makes sense!)

good luck - two more sleeps babe!!

It's sounding really positive from here too! Good luck! Me and the Munchkin will be crossing everything for your test on Tuesday... I'm now really appreciating the fact that my clinic tests so early - the wait would kill me!

Thank you all.........I just don't think I can let myself think this has happened for me, I really really want to though (nearly 7 years at this makes you abit cynical) . I feel like I felt when I was doing IUI's and I was on LP support injections but this cycle is all natural, with no support!!!

2 more sleeps.........I am happy to go to work tomorow to keep my mind off things!! (although I bet I spend alot of the day googling 10dp5dt - some good BLOGs out there to read!!!!)
