What am I to do

Im sorry to hear your news, My dh and i have been undergoing IVF over 3 years and have had to have many breaks inbetween cycles because of the costs.

I do know that Monash WERE offering public cycles through the northan Hosiptal (thats where we did our first cycle because of this) and i recal the bed fee being $250. and our cycle after getting some back from medicare was about $1500 but this was 3 years ago. if you have PH insurance it does work out cheaper in the long run with overall payments

Hi we were not going to get PH cover. However as clomid didn't work and I over respond to FSH, IVF looks to be our only way. So we made the very difficult decision to get cover and wait the twelve month waiting period. However I am trying naturopathy and another FSH cycle in between to make the wait less arduous. We came to this decision after a very tearful session in the IVF nurse's office discussing the costs. At first I was resentful at DH for pushing the PH cover and wait option as I felt that we could find the money somehow but he won me over with his argument that the less we pay the better and then I could have the birth at a private hospital too. He also said that with a 50% chance of a cycle working that was a lot of money to put on that gamble. He said that I would kill him if he put $7000 on the red at a roulette table and I had to agree with him there!!! We have other problems though as well with me not working regularly (if at all!) and we would have been paying off this treatment with no prospect of maternity leave or anything for me.

Thanks heaps for all your imput, we are going to go and have a chat with the IVF specialist and find out what procedure they will do and find out the cost, from there we can work out how long it will take us to save,
