Question What does a FET involve?

Hi I will be heading into my first FET,
I was hoping that you could answer my questions
For a so called normal FET,
    How long is the cycle?
What medications do you usually have to take and when?
    What does it involve?
    TIA

    Ok i was going to post earlier but didn't have the time or energy to know where to start;

Fet like Stims are all very different but i will fill you in on how mine have been and im sure others will do the same with the way it has worked for them?

My first FET was medicated as my cycle are very irregular

i was put on the pill for several weeks then came off for af then had to start HRT following TF i was then on P4 gel until BT (Bg this is what they are trying with you at the mo)

Fet to follow were very similar except i was no longer on the pill - i was to start taking HRT from when af left

I have also changed the type of HRT that i had been using twice and got a better response with the second one (pg, but mcx2)

I have also done a natural FET but was switched to HRT halfway through as i did not 'o' then continued as i had before with P4

I have been on clomid to encourage a natural 'o' but no such luck and the cycle was canceled

I have recently seen a new FS who has recommended that i have very small dose of FSH (35iu) then trigger before TF so it is more natural the not to use P4 as it irritates me so much and often causes me to get yet another infection so instead i will have HCG boosters

I cant wait for my next FET but need to see FS again to discuss options

hope my experiences have helped you i know others will be different

Some women get the boosters as well as the gel/ pessaries

    Hi Lionfish,

My clinic likes to do 'natural' cycles where possible for FET's.

In a nutshell - I call the clinic on day one of cycle and go for a BT day 10. They are checking the hormone levels for O. I usually have to go in for a couple more as my O time changes a lot. Once they feel they know the target day, I will then have transfer about 3 days later...and progesterone pessaries 2x daily

    Best of luck..

I think every woman's FET will be different.

For me, my clinic goes "natural". This means I take a drug to induce ovulation first. It works similarly to clomid - days 4 to 8 and then I stop. Blood tests begin when the clinic brings me in - can be day 11 to day 15 depending on which nurse I get when I call. Although, ovulation is moving earlier and earlier for me, so I don't think I can wait until day 15 again! Blood tests continue until they detect an LH surge. This could be the hell of daily blood tests, or they could tell me to go away for a few days before I go in again.

Once the LH surge has been detected, we get a transfer date. I'll get a phone call the day before from the scientists telling me how the embryo(s) went during thaw, and the time I need to turn up the following day. The night before transfer I have one progesterone pessary. Transfer, then wait until blood test. No more pessaries for me at all.

I also just finished a FET cycle, mine is pretty straight forward for a medicated
    Day 1 ring clinic
Day 3-7 injection of low dose puregon
    Day 7 Scan
Day 7-11 injections depending on scan result
    Day 12 trigger
    Day 14 start progesterone
    Day 15 transfer
    then just keep up progesterone

I have done alot of FET's so this was of yrs of natural and medicated to come up with this one. Easch specialist will have a different opinion on how to treat also.
Good luck..The great thing about FET's is the stress is reduced by 50% so is the pain...lol unless you are a pin cushion for a blood testing happy FS

Thank you very much for your help, it just gives me a heads up and it isn't as bad as I first thoguht it was going to be. My clinic called this morning and it sounds very similar to the 'natural' cycles that you ladies have gone thru.
    thanks again.

hmmmm, i'm about to start the HRT for an FET - i was hoping to be able to do a medicated FET the way Bec G has done, but my clinic are saying i can't - so maybe check with your clinic what the process is.

i'm kinda over the inconsistencies in treatment regimes! would be great if it were uniform and every option available to every patient at every clinic!!

    BG,
I was put on to this FSH cycle by my Sat Nurse, not sure which of the clinics you go to in this state. Many yrs when I did it this way I had to explain it over and over to the nurses on the phone now they just say "yes we have a few women on this cycle process" It was developed for more PCOS patients

I had heaps of trouble on Proganova HRT with cycles stretching out to the point they would cancel often. Surges could of been day 22 or later then I went to FSH and it still stretched out finally they triggered me.

It does depend on clinics bit more or less FS, whether they are willing to do something different or whether they do it alot
I'm not a seasoned traveller on this as the first time I did it with my poor grade 3 embie on a 3 day transfer it took and now waiting to see what happens this time

    Hi all,

My FET cycle was really quite simple:

Day 1 - rang clinic to advise
Day 11 - 13 blood tests to check for surge
    transfer 3 days after surge
    No drugs to support.

And I was blessed enough to get a :BFP:

Good luck to you with your FET,hope it all goes well.

Bec - not sure how the clinic you go to works - mine don't even try to get me to O! i just have to build up a suitable lining, then i'll be on "medication" to support a pregnancy through to 10-12 weeks..
