Well we had our initial appointment with the fertility specialist last week, Here’s the basics of what happened.
I have regular cycles (27 day) nothing odd at all with my cycles, we had a m/c back in march at 5w 4d.
He was really happy with the CD21 bloodwork and Pelvic Ultrasound, says I am definitely Oing.
DH’s SA is “too good to be true” – He has to repeat the SA because the FS doesn’t believe that the numbers could be that good. Geez they are never happy are they LOL. They will also be checking his SA for killer sperm cells.
I am being tested for clotting disorders due to a DVT in the last couple years.
I have a HSG scheduled for next week if AF arrives to check my tubes etc.
He has said that if all these come back clear and good he will consider it “unexplained infertility”
It seems a bit quick to me to just call it unexplained. What I am wondering is what else should I suggest that might be investigated?
Please please suggest anything that you might think useful for me to look into. I have no idea what I should be getting done.
Hi bubbat
It's great that there are no obvious issues for you, but I get that's very frustrating when there's no obvious problem to fix!
Sounds like your DH is fine, and it's a great sign that you're regular and o'ing. Other things they could check might be:
- ultrasound to see if your lining is thick enough to allow implantation after o
- Checking for fibroids, blockages or other issues with your tubes(the hsg should cover that)
- Antibodies in your CM
- Your lining of your eggs may be too thick to be penetrated by the sperm (i think this could only be checked with a round of ivf)
- Eggs may not be viable, or genetic issues once fertilised (again, I think a round of ivf would be needed to check this)
Unexplained Infertility simply means that they have not found a specific cause for the issue YET. What you have had done is the basic testing to get you started and I dont think that they will do anything more until you have given IVF a go iykwim. I thought they would have checked the uterus lining on the D21 pelvic scan.
You can also have testing done for 'mosaicing' of the DNA but that would be down the track if IVF isnt working for you. You might be one of these people who just needs a bit of help and gets that BFP on your first IVF cycle!
