What tests can be done to determine if AC is needed?

First of all, sorry to hear about your miscarriages.

I have had a number of fertility issues over the past 4 years - endo, blocked tubes etc. I had all of these things "fixed" and after my HSG in Sept 2008 I fell pregnant naturally but unfortunately miscarried. My FS told me that my tubes had more than likely blocked up again because 4 months after my m/c we hadn't managed to fall pregnant naturally again.
One failed IUI cycle and one successful IVF cycle, I am now 23 weeks pregnant.

Do you feel that it's time to move to AC? If so, do it. I wish I hadn't waited so long to take the plunge and go for it, but I guess everything happens for a reason.

Thanks Sue, yes it's a fine line I guess, when is too early for AC and am I jumping the gun etc, I know I can get pregnant naturally I guess but it's the hanging on to it which is the problem and what intervention can be done for that anyway? ahhh it's so challenging! when I called the fertility/IVF place on the sunny coast they said ivf etc was really for couples who can't or haven't been able to conceive naturally so I just don't know what else to do now short of waiting to get pg again and hoping I don't miscarriage it

It's annoying to hear that the clinic told you that IVF is only for couples who can't or haven't been able to conceive naturally because that isn't the case at all. IVF is for anyone who is finding conceiving a challenge, whether they have previously had a natural pregnancy or not - other issues often come up during IVF that can't be detected any other way, such as fertilisation issues and for some, egg quality (if this hasn't been tested before).

I hope that you come to a decision you're happy with. IVF isn't something to take lightly, but it can be a very worthwhile and rewarding process.

for your losses. I am also sorry for the info that you got from the IVF clinic - not helpful at all!

From what I understand the area of recurrent misscarriage is not a 'perfect science', but there is help available and a good FS should be able to help you. I did not suffer recurrent misscarriage but failure for embies to implant. What I learnt though was that the treatment I was eventually put on (asprin/heparin) was used for people such as me, ONLY because it had been found to help women with recurrent misscarriage successfully carry a baby to term! The specialist I saw said specifically at the time they dont know why those drugs help, but in some cases they just do! So dont give up hope. I also think that at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melb there is a clinic dedicated to women who have had recurrent misscarriage - and I would hope that it is replicated in other womens/good maternity hospitals around the country - could that provide you with another starting point???
