Ok - this is what I was just reading about Co-enzyme Q10 in a fertility related source.
"Helps with fainting, dizziness and obesity. An important nutrient within the body's energy production process. Has proven useful in controlling blood sugar - best known as a healthy-heart supplement. Usual dose in 60mg capsules twice a day. Ideally should be taken under the guidance of a nutritional therapist."
It is certainly not the first thing I think of taking when trying to improve fertility.
I think if you are looking an improving DH's dodgy army - you may need to look at other things like zinc and Vit C. For yourself there are probably other nutrients recommended for supporting egg production. Most common recommendations I have read about are B complex, zinc, vitamin E.
Have you consulted a nutritional therapist or naturopath? Usually best to do these things under supervision and with proper advice.
My FS advised DH to go on it ASAP. She recommended a few things (can't remember them all now) but basically they were all anti-oxidant (apart from folate). Green tea, orange vegetables Vit A,C,E (and I think selinium - I found one with them all at the health shop).
She said for me to only use Blackmores Gold or Elevit.
Ticklis, as you say it is not the first thing I thought about when trying to improve fertitlity however I was asking this question as I had heard and have read anecdotal evidence that it had helped others (men and women) in their fertility quest, and was wondering if others had come accross any information or had any experience with it.
DH is already on a regimine of vitamins to help improve his soldiers.
Glad to hear that DH is on other things as well. I find it so fascinating all the things that are being found to help with the fertility quest - I have pursued some alternatives and diet theories too - and succeeded when Drs told me I couldn't.
Hi Fi, I just received our ACCESS newsletter and it has a little bit of info regarding Q-10.
It says, " Coenzyme Q-10 is a very useful dietary supplement for fertility. Coenzyme Q-10 improves the mitochondria, the powerhouse for the cells and improves cell energy and therefore youthfulness. Protect all good eggs from oxidation by using anti oxidants like Cit C, E,A, zinc and selenium. A study in 1999 also found that L-Arginine improved ovarian response and endometrial reactivity in IVF patients, producing more fertile outcomes"
