Just wondering where were you when doing your injections ( e.g bedroom,bathroom, kitchen) also where did you put your sharps bin? i dont know where to put it? do i put it on top of the fridge out of the way or in the bedroom cupboard or in the bathroom up high??
see what silly questions i come up with at 3 in the morning when i cant sleep?? really tell me who thinks about there sharps bin and where to put it lol

I've been known to inject in the kitchen, lounge room, study and bedroom. I would keep most of my injecting stuff in the fridge, so if I was comfortable injecting while standing I'd just inject in there. Most times I would want to sit, so I'd take my stuff to whichever room I was occupying at the time (usually lounge room or study), but if someone was visiting, I'd take it to the bedroom and inject in private. The sharps container tended to stay where ever it was last used... bit different for us as we had no children or animals to get into things.
I had everything in the kitchen so I did it there. My meds were in the fridge & needles/swabs/sharps bin were al in a cupboard next to the fridge, so it made sense for me to just stand in the kitchen & inject there. I had to think about where to put the sharps bin too - I had a curious 2 year old at the time & also friends didn't know about IVF so it had to be out of sight for them too, family knew so no big deal for them.
I'm voting for the kitchen as well - it was/is just easier. I had my sharps bin on the bench next to the fruit bowl and just put it away if we had people coming over that did not know about the IVF. I have injected in my kitchen and the kitchen of friends - just because the meds live in the fridge!
Most of mine were done in the kitchen, as the others have said, the meds are kept in the fridge so that is where I did it. The only exception was the trigger shot. Because these needed to be 'mixed' and used a needle rather than the pen device I felt more comfortable/relaxed sitting in the lounge.
I've also done it twice in the car for when we were travelling or out to dinner when my trigger shot was due.
i started off sitting in the lounge cos that's where i was sitting first time i did it so became habit - then had to do an antagonist shot at work one day, and realised standing up wasn't so bad, and would do it at the kitchen bench after that! the sharps container is still on the fridge waiting to go back..
I did mine standing in the kitchen, it was just easier with everything there.
We had the Sharps bin in an overhead cupboard with the rest of my IVF stuff
your right dusty it is interesting to see where everyone done there injections.
i have another little question for you
when your doing your injections, do you inject around the same area everytime or do you try and stay away from the hole you left from the last injection??
also was it easier to give youself the injection? or is it more easier if someone else done it??
and did you clean the area before injecting?? the reason for the question is that the ivf nurse said dont bother with the wipes before each injection, you dont need it?? was just a bit worried about that cos every other time i have had needles or blood test they have always wiped the area?
our clinic provided alcohol wipe and i'd be reluctant to NOT use them - proper aseptic technique will reduce the risk of infection at injection site, particularly if you do nick a blood vessel. you have to think - you might not have had a shower since morning, been sweaty during the day, no idea what bacteria are living on the site... plus i usually use the wipe to apply pressure again after the injection to stop bruising... if the clinic don't supply wipes, you can pick them up pretty cheap at the chemist...
our clinic said to swap and change the area where we jab so as not to get bruising in one area (if you're susceptible to bruising!) so i started off doing a bit of a path across my lower tum. last time round, i was experimenting myself to see what would happen if i did all jabs on one side - i have no bruising at all (well, the very last booster shot bruised) but i ended up with all my response being on the one ovary, and it's now significantly swollen (about 40 times the size of the other one!) so mix it up to get an even response.
FWIW - i did every injection myself except for the couple that the nurse gave me no choice - she had me in a rather compromising posi following u/s so i couldn't fight her! i found i was able to reduce discomfort because i could control the flow of drugs - particularly trigger and booster shots - to minimise the impact. inject a bit, rest to let it settle, inject again. i didn't have that control when the nurse did the jabs, and they tended to hurt more. i wouldn't let DH do it cos he was too nervous! plus for me, half the time i was home alone and had no choice...
I would inject in a different spot each time. As I was injecting both lucrin and puregon, I'd do one on each side of my belly. As the lucrin was only a small injection, I'd try to put it on the left one day and the right the next so that the bigger puregon injection could move around a lot more. The nurses did the same thing with me when I was in hospital and having clexane injections. You could see the path of bruising so it was easy to avoid previous injection sites then!
As for the wipes - definitely! I've managed a couple where I've swabbed one area and managed to inject somewhere completely different, but it's not something I made a habit of doing. Same as BG, I'd use the wipe afterwards to apply a bit of pressure to the injection site and help reduce the bruising (I tend to bruise a lot!). I figure any time you are deliberately puncturing the skin, you make everything as clean and sterile as possible as the last thing you want to deal with is some sort of infection on top of IVF!
I always use the swab before injecting and my clinic also instructed me to swab the top of the pen before attaching the needle to ensure a clean site there too.
I swap sids each day around my belly button. BG, thanks for that little experiment. I have often wondered what would happen if I only did one side but wasn't game enough to try
At first I was really nervous about doing the injections but I don't think I could let DH do it for me now. I like the fact I'm in control and if it hurts (rarely) I only have myself to blame.
I did the same as BG, and worked my way across my belly
I also made sure that I didn't inject the puregon straight out of the fridge, I let it warm up a little first
As for sides, I swap sides. With the orgalutran I did it in my thigh (well my husband did) and I didn't feel it as much as doing it in the belly. It was only on my third cycle did the nurse tell me I could inject that into my thigh. Wish I'd known first cycle.
